When your child finishes their high school education in Ontario, they can start pursuing higher education at top universities across local areas and North America. A key step in this process is securing the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), which they earn upon graduating from a reputable Ontario school. These schools actively assist students in fulfilling OSSD requirements to streamline the application process when using the OUAC.

International students might feel overwhelmed navigating the OSSD requirements on their own, especially when shifting from a different educational system. Keep reading to learn more about the diploma and how to acquire it.

Getting the diploma

One of the ways to fulfill the requirements for OSSD is to sign up for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma program. This special platform is for any student who wants to pursue and complete their high school education in Canada, particularly in the province of Ontario. With the right school, your child can get the appropriate resources and credentials to increase their chances of getting into top-rated Canadian, American, Australian, and UK universities.

After completing the program, your child will receive their OSSD, and the authority will help them get into their school of choice. Apart from helping your child with OSSD requirements, the school will provide them with resources to develop practical skills and achieve academic excellence through university.

A team of mentors will be working with your child to teach them essential time management, social, organizational, and other life skills. These experts will also work closely with students to encourage self-discipline and dedication and increase their self-confidence with a positive and independent learning environment.

What are the requirements?

International students can get into the program and complete it via online or in-person study. To become eligible for OSSD, your child must fulfill any of the following conditions:

·      A middle school graduate

·      Currently in high school from Grades 9 to 12

·      A new high school graduate

·      Currently in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, O or A Level pursuer, or an AP student.

While in an Ontario school, your child must complete compulsory 18 credits, optional 12 credits, and additional credits, such as 40 hours of community involvement and passing the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test).
