Tech giants Ericsson and Cisco have extended their strategic partnership to include a new Wi-Fi solution offering called Evolved Wi-Fi Networks (EWN), the two companies have announced.

The new Wi-Fi solution combines Cisco’s Wi-Fi portfolio with Ericsson's 3GPP access to provide reliable Wi-Fi connection with high performance to Ericsson's mobile, cable and other industries customers.

The Wi-Fi solution will offer a range of benefits, including indoor small cells with deployment in venues of both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, operator Wi-Fi, traffic steering for operators between mobile and Wi-Fi access networks, and core network integration.

“Our strategic partnership brings together the capabilities of two leading players in networking, mobility and cloud, creating the best end-to-end solutions and opportunities for our customers,” said Rima Qureshi, Ericsson VP and head of the North America region in a statement.

“By adding Wi-Fi solutions into the partnership, we will enable our customers to offer best in class Wi-Fi in their networks, complemented by our leading 3GPP portfolio and services organisation.”

Ericsson’s services organization will handle the design and deployment of solutions based on the new offering.
