Heathrow is preparing a once in a lifetime sale of staggering historical travel artefacts, with an auction of the entire contents of the abandoned Terminal 1 building about to start.

And yes, you really can have a baggage carousel that still works.

The auction is being handled by sales specialist CA Global Partners which is calling it the Terminal 1 Memorial Sale, and the images of what's on offer are well worth half hour's work time to browse as they feature terrible benches from a variety of refurbishment epochs, including classic yellow illuminated signage, check-in barriers for anyone who has a particularly high turnover of friends, absolutely lovely old but impractically huge clocks, the actual desks where grumpy ladies in BA uniforms checked in the travellers of old, and much, much more.

The live sale is scheduled for Saturday April 21.

The full catalogue isn't available yet, but the image gallery gives you a good idea of the treasures to be had, plus a rare look inside an abandoned airport terminal -- presumably rentable by the hour if you fancy filming an apocalyptic movie.
