The Vero app

Ayman Hariri’s new Vero app is currently the talk of the town. The new social media app that was developed as an alternative to Facebook is now gaining the immense spotlight. The reason for that being the remarkable amount of downloads it received which is equivalent to nearly 4 million downloads. It went on to be the most popular app on the Google play store and the second most popular app on the Apple store.

Ayman Hariri, CEO of Vero app,is the son of Lebanese ex-P.M and the founder of the famous construction company ‘Saudi Ogre' late Rafic Hariri. His brother Saad Hariri is the current P.M of Lebanon. Hariri himself was also an owner of his father's company Ogre before he sold his stakes to his brother Saad to focus on his startup. Ayman has always been a tech lover and to follow his passion he switched from business to computer science and graduated from Georgetown University as a Computer Science major.

The Vero app was created with the mission to free users from the frustration of lack of privacy. Keeping this fact in mind the app is a first of its kind ad-free and algorithm-free app. Hariri hopes that ‘his app will appeal more to users in the wake of the Facebook data scandal.'

The app comes with a promise that it won't resort to data mining nor would it mint money using the user's data. This makes the app an exception as all the other existing platforms which claim to be providing free services to users are using the user's data and using that as a currency by giving space for the advertisers who are in the real sense their actual customers.

Vero is the Italian term for the word ‘true' and is the only real social networking app as claimed by its developers. Vero comes out clean and right in front of its customers by announcing that the first one million subscribers would enjoy free services for the rest of their lives. For the rest the app would be a paid-app wherein some monthly subscription charge would be levied. For the time being, the makers have not yet formulated a subscription price, and hence the app is at present free for all the users.

Ayman Hariri also claims that those platforms which use user data to mint money and progress forward are always on the lookout for improvising their algorithm and to create something that they are not to target more advertisements. Vero which is an exception would face no such hassles as it is entirely devoid of algorithms and ads.

Currently, it is not clear whether the Vero app would continue to maintain its present appeal or not, but the only thing that is clear is that people are open to changes and alternatives and this is what has made the app famous.
