Microsoft Corporation Unveils Few More Secrets About Its HoloLens Headset

Today, a few secrets of HoloLens have been unleashed by Microsoft itself, which includes what exactly is buried under this special headset’s casing

Microsoft has been publicizing its HoloLens at its Build Developers Conference and it has definitely captured a lot of attention with its capabilities. While most of the features of HoloLens are known, the company has not yet made anyone familiar with its hardware.

Today, a few secrets of HoloLens have been unleashed by Microsoft itself, which includes what exactly is buried under this special headset’s casing. Unlike other VR headsets, Microsoft has manufactured its headset with see-through lenses, that enables its users to see the rest of the room while wearing it, similar to the Glass headset by Google.

HoloLens features spatial sound and sensors that assist it in providing users with a three-dimensional audio and all the sounds that are a part of your environment. This futuristic headset also has a video camera, allowing users to capture photographs, and videos of their surroundings.

Microsoft has developed the headset with a variety of sensors. A microphone to capture all voice commands and a sensor built deep inside HoloLens, which understands hand gestures for clicks and other navigations. An accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope, combined with the camera, makes the headset capable to understand head movements.

HoloLens is fitted with a CPU and GPU, that is similar to laptops or PCs. "But that wasn’t enough to handle all the processing required to understand our world, so we had to go beyond the traditional CPU and GPU," explains Head of the Microsoft’s next generation devices team, Todd Holmdahl. Microsoft engineers have come with another type of processor for HoloLens, which they call a Holographic Processing Unit (HPU) that enables the headset to smoothly process all hand gestures, head, and eye movements in a spatial environment.

After a few more details released, Microsoft is still left to disclose the detailed specifications about the headset’s hardware, or the information that how HoloLens functions without wires. Stay tuned, until we get any further info on Microsoft’s futuristic gadget, whose design was unveiled first back in January.
