Google is rolling out a handy accessibility feature that should make life easier in your home  — notifications about household sounds. Once you enable this feature, your phone will recognize sounds like the doorbell, a barking dog, and running water. This functionality is powered by Google’s Live Transcribe technology, which was originally used only to convert speech to text. But now, it can also identify sounds around you. While the household sound notifications are targeted towards people with hearing loss, it can also alert you to incidents if you’re wearing headphones and listening to music or podcasts. Apart from displaying these alerts on… This story continues at The Next WebOr just read more coverage about: Android,Google

Android's Smart Lock feature is spectacular — that is, when it actually works.Smart Lock has been around since 2014's Android 5.0 era (which, according to my calculations, was approximately "an eternity" ago by 2020 standards). The basic idea behind it is to make securing your smartphone less inconvenient, thus making it more likely that you'll actually use a pattern, PIN, passcode, or person-paw press (also known as a fingerprint) to keep your data safe. The sensational headlines about big, bad malware monsters lurking in the dark and waiting to pounce on unsuspecting victims may be scary, after all, but here in the real world, you're far more likely to suffer from your own self-made security shortcomings than from any sort of theoretical threat. To read this article in full, please click here

Photo by James Bareham / The Verge If you still play Pokémon Go on a smartphone or tablet running Android 5.0 “Lollipop” or iOS 10 or 11, you’ll no longer be able to access the game when Niantic pushes an update in mid-October. The Pokémon Go Twitter account confirmed that two popular older phones also won’t make the cut: the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 are being left behind, despite the fact both phones can be upgraded to run iOS 12. “iPhone 5S and 6 have just 1 GB of RAM, and we don’t want to hold back development and implementation of features for the vast majority of players who have more robust phones,” Niantic tells The Verge. All things considered, the performance on those devices probably wasn’t great. Pokémon Go might not be as demanding as some other titles, but it... Continue reading…

Music service Deezer has released a new standalone music app designed specifically for Sony 360 Reality Audio, the immersive sound technology first introduced by the company at CES earlier this year. With this standalone app, Deezer users can directly access songs that are available in 360 Reality Audio, meaning they are quite immersive with realistic audio placement. As we reported earlier this month, Sony 360 Reality Audio will launch on around 1,000 songs this fall, enabling music fans to experience their favorite songs in an entirely new way.Simply put, Sony 360 Reality Audio is 360-degree sound technology that builds upon traditional binaural beats, offering an immersive experience when the user is listening with a 360-degree speaker system or with headphones.Users familiar with binaural audio will have an idea about what to expect — the different sounds in an audio recording are essentially played using virtual speakers with various placement to provide a sense of where the actual placement of the sounds were in real life.Sony’s technology puts the sounds all around the listener, taking things a step farther than binaural audio.
Sony‘s releasing its 7.00 update for the PS4 this week, which adds support for the console’s Remote Play feature to all Android devices, months after iOS got the same thing. Now, according to Sony‘s announcement, it’ll work with all devices running Android 5.0 or higher — meaning you can finally use that tantalizing Remote Play app on the Play Store.Given the Xperias have had Remote Play as a feature since 2014, it felt like a cruel joke for Sony to make them the only Android phones compatible with Remote Play, and that’s finally been rectified.Remote Play comes a little late in the PS4‘s lifecycle for its millions of users to take proper advantage of it.One hopes the PS5 — which is allegedly code-named “Prospero” — will offer a version of this a bit earlier. The ability to play your games on a smaller screen, thus having some flexibility and not being constantly tied to the same stationary black box console, will be even more important as the PS5 will have to compete with the likes of Google’s Stadia and Apple Arcade.
If you prefer the close-up convenience of playing PlayStation 4 games on a smartphone instead of your 4K TV, you now have a lot more options.Sony's PS4 Remote Play feature, which casts PS4 games to compatible smartphones over Wi-Fi or LAN cable, has been rolled out to all Android phones running Android 5.0 Lollipop and above after a PS4 system firmware update.Anyone wanting to make use of the update can head to the Google Play Store to download the PS4 Remote Play app.Previously the functionality had been exclusive to certain Sony phones – on Android at least – vastly limiting the number of Android users who could utilize the feature. If you're an iOS user, you can still access the app on the iPhone 7 or newer models, and the 2018 iPad; the firmware update has also added the ability to lock the screen orientation while playing on iOS.The PlayStation blog says devices running "Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina (releasing in October)" will also be able to connect DualShock 4 wireless controllers over Bluetooth, for a more authentic PS4 experience.
Sony’s Remote Play app, allowing users to stream games from their PS4, has long been exclusive to Sony Xperia smartphones. Now, the company has announced that this is no longer the case.“For those who want to stream select PS4 games on mobile devices, Remote Play can now be used on smartphones and tablets running Android 5.0 or higher,” the firm announced in a blog post.“Just download the PS4 Remote Play App from the Google Play store to use the feature.”Read: 5 best PlayStation emulators for AndroidSony has also confirmed that Dual Shock 4 controller support via Bluetooth is now available on Android 10 devices.
Apple remains the king of the smartwatch game, especially with the release of the near-perfect Series 5 during the company’s September event. If you’re looking for an Android-compatible smartwatch with a solid mix of connectivity and activity-tracking options, check out Amazon’s deal on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active.Normally $280, you can currently score the 40mm silver variant for only $178.This Samsung smartwatch flaunts a sleek and modern design that you’ll be proud to show off.It has a nicely proportioned profile — a round face and comfortable straps — that looks good on both small and large wrists. For exterior functionality, the Korean tech giant ditched the rotating bezel and went for some side-mounted buttons.
