Once a hailed as an indicator that GM had finally cracked the small car code, the Buick Verano sedan has been tapped for an early exit. After all, the Buick Verano offered luxury-seekers on a budget the chance to drive a quiet, comfortable, and relatively quick in turbo trim four-door compact car that compared well against its early rivals such as the Acura ILX .This lead to the eventual exploration of the segment by Mercedes-Benz the CLA-Class , BMW the 2 Series , and Audi the A3 sedan .While the Europeans playing in the small car space had brand capital to burn and a business model build around low volume, Buick compared its shrinking Verano business against the enormous surge in the SUV and crossover market and made the decision to go with the flow.Plans have been drawn up to make more than two-thirds of Buick's future line-up SUV-based, which means new models will join the existing Enclave and Encore people movers, as well as the upcoming Buick Envision.According to The Detroit Bureau, it also means that well-received concept vehicles like the Buick Avenir sedan are unlikely to ever see the light of day in production form.
At the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Buick unveiled a striking concept car called the Avenir.A large and luxurious sedan, it looked like just the thing to take the General Motors brand out of its decades-long doldrums.Avenir, which Buick notes is French for future, will be the name of a new sub-brand that will launch during the 2018 model year.Buick s announcement of the Avenir sub-brand included few details, but it likely features upgraded versions of existing Buick models, distinguished by special styling elements. Those styling elements will include at least one item cribbed from another Buick concept car, the Avista, a turbocharged rear-wheel drive coupe that debuted at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. The Avista s grille will serve as one of the guideposts for designers working on Avenir models, according to Buick.

Artsy, the New York startup that has positioned itself as the go-to place for all things arty — a platform for people to learn about visual art online as well as explore opportunities to buy and sell work — has raised $50 million in funding. The company is not disclosing its valuation but deal intelligence service Pitchbook notes that it is $275 million post-money (and $225 million pre-money).Carter Cleveland, Artsy’s co-founder and CEO, said in an interview that the plan is to use the investment to dive deeper into auctions, which today are the fastest-growing part of the site after the company secured partnerships with Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips, the three leading brick-and-mortar auction houses.Meanwhile, Artsy’s current business mainstay — developing and hosting sites for 1,800 commercial galleries in 90 countries, and selling their work online — has helped contribute to $20 million of sales each month from a user base of 2 million unique visitors per month (who also visit it for its content, which includes an in-house magazine and other informational content). The Series D, which brings the total raised by Artsy to around $100 million, was led by Avenir Growth Capital, a new firm out of New York, and includes a very long list of investors — 56, according to the Form D we spotted. Some of the most prominent are worth noting.
Buick updated the LaCrosse for the 2018 model year with a standard mild-hybrid system and a lower base price, but that was only the beginnng. The 2018 Buick LaCrosse will also be Buick's first sedan to carry its new Avenir trim, which is positioned as a top-tier offering with more standard features and fancier materials throughout. The Avenir trim debuted on the 2018 Buick Enclave three-row crossover. The LaCrosse Avenir looks a little different than the rest, thanks to special upper and lower front grilles.Nineteen-inch alloy wheels are standard, with optional 20-inchers for a few extra bucks. And, as one might expect, there are a few Avenir badges thrown onto the body for good measure.
Let them start the new year with a step up in photo and video quality from a phone.
Avenir Telecom, a smartphone maker that works under the Energizer umbrella, just announced the launch of a quite interesting device – the Energizer POWER MAX P600S.Let’s see what are the main features of this beautifully crafted phone coming with a curved 18:9 full HD screen and an ultra-powerful 4500mAh battery. The handset does indeed come with a massive 4500mAh battery that will last more than 16 days in standby and over 12 hours of use.The big battery is also paired with an intelligent Power Saving technology that optimizes battery usage to the maximum, plus it supports fast charging at 12V over the USB Type-C port. The Energizer POWER MAX P600S is the first smartphone to feature a bezel-less 5.99 inch 18:9 full HD display. This aspect ratio allows you to have a more enjoyable multitasking experience when using the multi-window feature with two apps running side by side, it also makes the smartphone easier to handle as it’s narrower compared to a 16:9 5.99-inch display.
French microorganism developer Novolyze has raised a €2.2 million ($2.69m) second seed round for its foodborne illness mitigation technology.Safety controls for foods like infant formula, spices, cereals, baked goods, and even pet foods are generally validated with spot checks, but pathogens present in affected foods inconsistently, which makes sample testing an insufficient method of discovering foodborne illness before food goes out to the public.Furthermore, food manufacturers are not allowed to bring pathogens into their facilities to validate that their mitigation procedures are working. The ready-to-use dried microorganisms are introduced into a food product, for example, a muffin batter, and then the product is tested after the control process is complete, in the case of a muffin — baking.Companies manufacturing non-pathogenic microorganisms that mimic common pathogens like salmonella, listeria, and e. coli, called surrogates, did exist before Novolyze was founded in 2012, but the process of acquiring them was tedious and expensive according to Novolyze CEO Karim-Franck Khinouche. It was tedious, expensive, and not very reliable.”
A thing I learned today: Energizer has been selling smartphones for years.Or, to be more precise, phones bearing the Energizer brand and logo have been on sale for a long time.I suppose in a world where Kodak puts its name on selfie sticks (and, at this year’s CES, headphones), Energizer’s brazen rebadging of a generic Android device should be within the realm of the expected.Produced under license by Avenir Telecom, the Energizer Power Max P600S is a peculiar mix of budget and premium features.Up front, it looks like an LG V30 with slightly thicker (though still tiny) bezels, and on the inside — living up to the implications of its brand — the phone has a 4,500mAh battery. On the rear, there’s a dual-camera system and a fingerprint sensor.
Avenir Telecom, under the umbrella of the famous Energizer brand, is set to roll out its next smartphone integrating some until now unheard-of features at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona trade fair. The phone is indeed going to pack the world’s most impressive battery with 16.000 mAh battery, 5.99” 18:9 FHD screen and its memory of 6GB (RAM) + 128GB (ROM) make this smartphone second to none; let’s learn more about it!So, looking at the bare numbers, the most exciting feature about the upcoming smartphone is its insane battery capacity. The phone that is namely called Energizer POWER MAX P16K Pro is indeed going to come with a massive 16.000mAh battery. If that wasn’t enough, the company also revealed the handset will be featuring a large 6-inch display with 4K resolution.A hardware combo that makes the smartphone one of the best specced on the market as well as a possible great media consumption device.
When a smartphone is released under the Energizer brand, you know what it’s going to focus on: the battery. And that’s exactly what the Energizer Hardcase H590S from Avenir Telecom does. With a 5,800mAh battery, this is a smartphone that will last a good deal longer than the average handset on the market given that most currently have batteries that edge around 3,000mAh.Of course, you can’t sell a smartphone on battery alone and Avenir Telecom has managed to surround that mammoth battery with a seriously sturdy casing. The Energizer Hardcase H590S has a 5.9-inch HD 18:9 ratio screen surrounded by a shock- and waterproof case. With its Gorilla Glass 3 display and IP68 rating, it can apparently survive falls of up to 1.2 meters and survive in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.
Energizer has plans on bringing their range of smartphones to India.Energizer normally launches phones across four segments - Hardcase (resistance phones), Powermax (long lasting batteries), Energy Plus (smartphone with protection accessories), and Energy (basic phones). At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 the company will showcase their 22 phones, including 12 new ones, and announce their plans for India. These phones are produced under Avenir Telecom, but the batteries' game is all Energizer. Not only will this phone have a magnanimous battery, it’s also going to be equipped with the trending 5.99-inch FHD display along with an aspect ratio of 18:9.Despite the hefty specifications, Energizer maintains that this particular smartphone will “boast an ultra slim design”.
Let’s get what this one-of-a-kind phone claims to have into some context: the iPhone X packs a 2,716mAh battery, while the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus goes all the way to… 3,500mAh.So the Power Max P16K Pro’s 16,000mAh battery is about four or five times bigger than the big boys’ batteries.“It’s really hard to talk about average use, because battery power all depends on how much you’re using WiFi and data. But this phone’s battery should be long enough for about two or three days of normal use,” says Julien Emard at Marseille, France-based Avenir Telecom, which licenses the Energizer brand for phones and accessories. We reckon four or five days seems more likely for most.Although the company was also showing its Energizer Power Max P600S with a paltry 4,500mAh battery, it’s the P16K Pro that’s been grabbing all of the attention at MWC.
