There's been talk of standalone shows for Loki, Wanda Maximoff, and Hawkeye; an animated series based on the Marvel's What If…?Today, Marvel is finally revealing one of the shows that'll arrive when the Disney+ service launches: Storyboards.Unlike the Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian or Falcon & Winter Soldier, which builds on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Storyboards isn't an episodic extension of an existing franchise."A comparison that everyone knows is Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown," Quesada says."We go on locations, but instead of food or culture being the focus, the focus is a guest, the way they tell stories, and their story."The guests are wide and varied, including Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman (on the debut episode), Book of Mormon and Avenue Q songwriter Robert Lopez, Teen Vogue executive editor Samhita Mukhopadhyay, and Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir.

She’d been undergoing chemotherapy to treat a relapsing lymphoma, but this exhaustion wasn’t just the cancer or the drugs. On day three, when the results came back negative, they sent a vial to Fort Collins, Colorado, to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Vector-Borne Diseases, for a more extensive analysis. What they fear most is that the virus could be silently spreading through human populations, only getting noticed when it causes severe symptoms in an unlucky few.Under a microscope, Bourbon virus is a shape-shifter, sometimes long and filamentous, sometimes a sphere studded with spiky proteins, encapsulating a string of segmented genetic code. Its nearest evolutionary relatives are viruses found in the bodies of sheep-sucking ticks in Kyrgyzstan and camel-chewing ticks in India, both of which attack neurons and cause brain inflammation when transmitted to humans. The summer after its discovery there, CDC researchers found the virus in the bodies of several ticks collected elsewhere in Bourbon County.

That's right, the books you paid for will be literally removed from your electronic bookshelf because, um, Microsoft decided in April it no longer wanted to sell books. It will turn off the servers that check whether your copy was bought legitimately – using the usual anti-piracy digital-rights-management (DRM) tech – and that means your book can't be verified as being in the hands of its purchaser, and so won't be displayed."You can continue to read books you've purchased until July 2019 when they will no longer be available, and you will receive a full refund of the original purchase price."All the Windows giant said was that it was "streamlining the strategic focus" of its store. What's all the more remarkable is that Microsoft doesn't appear to have considered the impact of its decision on how people will view DRM as a whole. While a technologically savvy person will have considered the fact that buying an ebook with DRM means that it might stop working at some point in the future, you don't really expect it to happen, especially with a household name like Microsoft.

The eBook market is most closely associated with four prominent players: Apple, Amazon, Barnes and Noble’s, and Rakuten, which makes the Kobo eReaders. But it’s easy to forget that Microsoft once owned its own eBook marketplace. But this means that from next month, anyone who bought an eBook from Microsoft will suddenly find it won’t work. It’s certainly controversial – if not outright unpopular – but it’s also an inevitable fact of life for anyone who buys eBooks or movies online. Many DRM programs work by connecting to a remote server in order to determine if the content is being used in an approved way. While it’s not 100 percent clear that’s what happening here, Microsoft has said that books purchased from the Microsoft Store will cease to work starting from early July 2019.
The latest retailer to potentially come back from the dead is Toys R Us, the 60-plus-year-old toy store that ceased operations in 2018.In the bloodbath that has been brick-and-mortar retail in the ecommerce age—some even call it a retailpocalypse—many long-standing retailers in American malls and shopping centers found themselves flailing against an invisible foe. Some, like clothing stores Charlotte Russe, The Limited, Nine West and Wet Seal, along with gadget store Brookstone, went belly up, only to be sold for parts to vultures that were typically—although not exclusively—investment firms. They, in turn, have tried a number of tactics—including focus on ecommerce and fewer, smaller stores with experiences—to become the Melisandres to what they hope are Jon Snows.Others, like bookstore Barnes & Noble, tween jewelry chain Claire’s and even department store Sears haven’t quite given up the fight yet, but due in part to the wounds inflicted as they struggled to stay afloat, they, too, ended up in bed with investment firms. The reasons these brands failed do not suddenly disappear once investors buy them—and the stores still have to overcome the same demons, such as strong competition or lack of innovation, said retail expert and consultant Bruce Winder.

For e-reader devotees, it doesn’t get better than the Kindle Oasis.Amazon’s the last giant player standing in the category (unless you consider what Barnes & Noble is doing “standing”), and the Oasis is ounce for ounce the best Kindle device it has produced.I reviewed the last iteration of the device back in late 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.Amazon’s keeping the dream alive with an update to the device.Though be forewarned, like the recent standard Kindle upgrade, it’s pretty minor. From the looks of things, the new Oasis maintains all of the good bits with its predecessor, including the nice 7-inch, 300ppi display, coupled with physical page-turn buttons.
When Amazon first launched in 1995 as a website that only sold books, founder Jeff Bezos had a vision for the company's explosive growth and e-commerce domination. He finally chose "Amazon" because he liked that the company would be named after the largest river in the world, hence the company's original logo.In the first month of its launch, Amazon had already sold books to people in all 50 states and in 45 different countries. An obscure book about lichens saved Amazon from going bankrupt. One early employee worked so tirelessly over 8 months — biking back and forth from work in the very early morning and very late night — that he completely forgot about the blue station wagon that he'd parked near his apartment.Every employee had to take a graveyard shift in the fulfillment centers to meet orders.

Nine states and the District of Columbia filed suit Tuesday to block T-Mobile and Sprint's planned $26.5 billion merger, complicating the companies’ path to completing the deal. The merger would cut the number of major wireless carriers in the US from four to three, but the two companies have argued the deal would help consumers by enabling the companies to expand coverage and build a nationwide 5G network more quickly than they would be able to on their own.Federal Communications Commission chair Ajit Pai voiced his support for the merger last month after T-Mobile and Sprint promised to spin off Sprint's prepaid service Boost Mobile if the merger is approved. But an investigation by the attorneys general of New York, California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Virginia, and Wisconsin concluded that the promises won't make up for the reduced competition in the market. The suit says an analysis based on estimates by the companies’ own economists suggests the merger would cost T-Mobile and Sprint subscribers $4.5 billion annually. The states also worry the merger would result in layoffs at retail stores.
