Music continues to grow as a popular area for brands to reach new audiences and convince customers they’re relatable and worthy of their dollar.I would love to see brands loosen their grip and dream up ways to partner with artists where the brand is not only paying for the artist’s association but for their creative thinking as well. The modern-day fan expects their musical idols to be creative forces, developing never-before-heard sounds, creating incredible visuals, building game-changing stage productions, reinventing their image each and every product cycle and, most difficultly, emanating cool 24/7 on social media and in the tabloids. It takes faith and courage to not be held back by a sense of risk.It requires a brand to evolve the relationship past the letter of the contract and go the extra yard to understand what makes the artist tick.Mountain Dew’s courtship of Tyler the Creator resulted in a perceived racist TV spot involving a criminal goat that was quickly yanked.
Dubset, the rights clearance startup that helps DJs use licensed songs in their sets or remixes and monetize the content, has inked a deal with Warner Music.Warner Music Group is one of the biggest music labels to sign a deal with Dubset, meaning a large majority of music that DJs want to play — which includes artists like Daft Punk, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, and Migos — is now available to them with full monetization privileges.Essentially, artists using the Dubset platform are legally clear to include songs from Warner’s catalog in full-length mixes, and distribute those mixes to Apple Music and Spotify.Dubset announced the partnership in a newsletter that was sent out today.“Dubset’s team has worked tirelessly to expand its catalog, giving DJs a broader set of tracks to use in DJ sets that can be distributed to streaming services,” the letter reads.“The licensed songs that DJs can include in their mixes has expanded at a blinding rate due in large part to deals signed with Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and Merlin (also known as the fourth major).”
Pepsi was the top “share of voice” on social after its Big Game spot featured Cardi B, Lil Jon and Steve Carell aired.Pairing musicians and brands like PepsiCo’s Super Bowl ads, including deals beyond just the typical product placement in a music video, could be quite fruitful for both parties.Still, it takes the perfect marriage of personalities and respect for both artist and brand to really nail it—or both could risk losing loyal followers and sales.“There are so many opportunities to mix music with [brands].If [brands] tried it, they’d see an explosion in sales,” said Vernon Brown, longtime attorney to Cash Money Records, during a panel at Adweek’s Brandweek: Challenger Brands summit last month with label co-founder Ronald “Slim” Williams.Williams’ label has been home to top 100 stars like Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj.
the Launch takes place despite the fact that Warner Music Group sued the Swedish streamingjätten in the week.Warner is reported to withhold the artist from their publisher, such as Cardi B, from Spotify. But several users in India according to The Verge that they have been able to download and register on the Spotify app in the Android phones on Tuesday.Spotify has not yet confirmed its launch officially. In the middle of January, it was clear that Spotify signed a contract with T-Series, which is one of the miljardnationens largest film and music labels.the Partnership insures a large range of commercial Hindi and Bollywood music.
Minutes before I’m supposed to meet mix engineer Leslie Brathwaite for the first time, he texts me to reschedule. In the post-Grammys glow, he talks with The Verge about what a mix engineer does, what it was like to work with Cardi B on Invasion of Privacy, and he shares some of his favorite studio tips, tricks, and plug-ins.Once the artist and the musicians and the producers and everyone gets together and records all the material, I have to sift through everything and make decisions like which vocal take is the best?Every night, she would walk around and make sure she spoke to every single person in the studio from the front desk girl to the studio manager.I was born in Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands. From a very early age, I would follow the calypso bands and ask them if I could hook up the amplifiers or try to help them wrap cables.
When Ariana Grande issued thank u, next earlier this month, she was staying true to a long-held promise. In a move rarely seen from an artist of imposing status, the album marked the pop enchanter's second studio release in just six months.Elsewhere, pop aspirants of uncanny talent—Noname, Cardi B, Mitski, Hayley Kiyoko, Rico Nasty, and Tierra Whack among them—are demonstrating an immodest, near-singular, anti-populist aptitude for industry-wide reinvention.Collectively, their work suggests not a move toward a new center but a removal of it altogether.Consider Tierra Whack, the Philadelphia shape-shifter who interrogated the complex and curious tangle of our age with Whack World.Released last May, the project was blistering and spare—its 15 songs were capped at one minute apiece.
After getting all that Grammy shine as the first solo female artist to win best rap album, Cardi B has gone Instagram MIA.An Instagram search for the rapper, who goes by "iamcardib", yields "User not found", the social media platform shows Monday.Cardi B had 40.7 million followers and 575 posts.According to Twitter user @Th3_D4RK_NIT3, "Cardi B posted a rant on Instagram only to delete it minutes later. Is her actions justified or nah?"Cardi B just won best rap album for Invasion of Privacy at the 61st Grammys on Sunday, her first Grammy after receiving seven nominations.
Ariana Grande’s album thank u, next set two new records on Apple Music when it debuted last Friday: the most first-day streams of a pop album, and the most first-day streams of a female artist.Unfortunately, neither stat comes with specific figures, but the record-breaking accolades speak to more than just Grande’s success as an artist — they also speak to Apple Music’s quickly growing subscriber base.Apple has released streaming stats more and more often over the past year, seemingly to boast about how much of a success its service can be for major artists.Last June, Apple said that Drake set a record for first-day album streams, cracking 170 million on Scorpion. As far as we know, that’s still the record. There doesn’t appear to be data on the most first-day streams for a female artist, but last April, Apple said that Cardi B had topped Taylor Swift’s previous record for most first-week streams, with 100 million total.

Ariana Grande has set the record straight, after it was suggested she’d taken aim at Cardi B during this year’s Grammys. After a much-publicised row with producers, Ariana ultimately declined to appear at this year’s Grammys, but did follow the action along on social media, and she was not impressed when it was revealed that Cardi had been awarded Best Rap Album.Pacific Press via Getty ImagesImmediately after Cardi was announced as the recipient of the award, Ariana tweeted “trash”, “fuck” and “bullshit”, before quickly taking down the posts. However, when her fans picked up on what she’d written, assuming she was having a go at Cardi, Ariana quickly fired off some more tweets (which have also now been removed), insisting that she had nothing against the Bodak Yellow rapper, and was actually just disappointed that the award didn’t go to her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, who was also nominated in the same category.John Shearer via Getty Images
With awards season now in full swing, it’s time for stars from the music world to start getting in on the act, with the celebrities swarming to Los Angeles on Sunday night, for this year’s Grammys. As ever, it was a star-studded affair, with the biggest names in the industry all arriving at the Staples Centre, but before the ceremony itself, there was the not-so-small matter of the red carpet.Loads of our faves posed up a storm for the photographers on their way into the event, including the host for the evening, Alicia Keys, who made sure to make an impression as she led the charge in her bright red gown.Elsewhere, chart-topping British singer and Best New Artist contender Dua Lipa was also snapped on the red carpet, alongside Album Of The Year Janelle Monáe, dressed as elaborately as we’ve come to expect from her, and Cardi B, who took up plenty of space in her show-stopping outfit, to match her larger-than-life personality. But it wasn’t just the women who caught our attention on the red carpet.Two-time nominee Shawn Mendes kept it classic in a navy suit, while producer Mark Ronson, who was recognised for his work on the A Star Is Born soundtrack as well as his work with Sin City, took a monochrome approach in his black-and-white ensemble.

Despite what the National Enquirer said Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda did not direct Amazon’s 2019 Super Bowl commercial—and, it appears, the ad may not focus on founder Jeff Bezos’ spaceflight company Blue Origin.Instead, it will follow in the footsteps of its 2018 hit and relies on celebrity muscle to tout a presumably faux Amazon Beta Testing Program.“Amazon recruited some famous friends to test new Alexa technologies,” the ecommerce giant says on a page dubbed, “All Things Alexa.” It calls this Beta Testing Program, “a top-secret division.”In blue-hued futuristic teasers superimposed with code a la The Net or The Matrix, celebrities like Harrison Ford, Forest Whitaker, Ilana Glazer, Abbi Jacobson and astronauts Mark and Scott Kelly open padded briefcases and hear an automated voice welcome them to this program.(It also notes they have “Security Clearance 3,” whatever that means.)A rep confirmed the teasers are for a national ad during the game, but declined to share any other specifics.
When hip-hop superstar Cardi B isn’t offering her own takes on the extended U.S. government shutdown, she’s confirming rumors, first reported by TMZ, that she will star in Pepsi’s big Super Bowl ad.The soda company released two new teasers today to follow up on last week’s intro starring crunk pioneer Lil Jon, who did little beyond appear in a diner setting and slowly pour himself a fountain soda.In a very similar manner, these mini-spots don’t reveal anything about the ad that will run during the game—one of three from PepsiCo to promote its Doritos, Bubly and Pepsi classic brands. For example, Steve Carell appears in the same diner reading a document that he very clearly identifies as a script for the spot.It seems hilarious, but he won’t tell viewers why.Cardi’s mini-teaser is even more vague, though we do learn via her hand movements that she, like Ikea, is a big fan of ASMR, or autonomous sensory meridian response.
If you're looking to start a new marketing campaign, consider these successful ones from major brands.Every year companies, both big and small, launch marketing campaigns to the public -- some are forgettable while others hit hard as intended and attract attention for the brand. There are campaigns that challenge our world-views, inspire us and make us laugh and smile.Creativity can come from all different directions; from cutting-edge technology firms, to billion-dollar athletic brands and a pancake monopoly -- several brands made a mark this year with campaigns that oozed creativity.IHOP -- The International House of BurgersWhen people heard that IHOP (The International House of Pancakes) changed their name to IHOB (The International House of Burgers), the internet went crazy.
