Bethesda has released a new trailer for Fallout 4 s Far Harbor expansion with details on new plot, enemies and locations. The new trailer lands just before the expansion release date on May 19, teasing exactly what players can expect come tomorrow. You can also gain some valuable developer insight on new characters and equipment from the DLC, and how they came to be.Far Harbor will take place in a dark, dank new location filled with swamps, rural buildings and dangerous new enemies.Far Harbor is available as part of the Fallout 4 Season Pass for £39.99 or individually at £19.99, making it far pricier than previous add-ons.The expansion will launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC tomorrow.
Both Automatron and Wasteland Workshop were greeted with lukewarm reviews, with the former receiving quite a bit of criticism for its lack of depth. That danger is further enhanced by the spookier, more hostile nature of Far Harbor itself. The Gulper just might be the best addition, however, looking like a horribly disfigured nutria-salamander hybrid that walks with an unsettling dinosaur quality.Giant bloody meat hooks serve as a new melee weapon, and a harpoon gun should serve as a nice counter for those amphibious creatures. We previously reported that the DLC would feature additional high-level armor, and we now know exactly what that means: the Marine Combat Armor will be the best armor in the game aside from the Power Armor, and as an added bonus, you ll look like a badass wearing it.Bethesda will seriously have to consider discounting it when Halloween comes around: the whole thing evokes a classic Universal monster movie aesthetic we haven t seen from a game in years.
Get your sea captain's hat and harpoon at the ready, Far Harbor is the latest and biggest DLC in the Fallout 4 universe and it's ready to play today.Bethesda released the add-on at midnight and it's looking like the island adds a huge area to explore, with new weapons, armour, monsters and quests to fill out.To get started, download the DLC separately, then go to the Fallout 4 add-on menu to check it's there.Load up the game, and as long as you've done a Nick Valentine quest 'Getting a clue', you'll be able to receive the pipboy notification that'll start you off.Watch lead developers talk us through what to expect, here:We attempted to re-create some of our favourite movie robots in Fallout 4 Automatron
Buy Fallout 4 from AmazonFar Harbor is the third DLC pack, following Automatron and Wasteland Workshop, and is the largest landmass Bethesda has ever created with new faction quests, settlements, creatures and dungeons. The story of Far Harbor follows a new case from Detective Valentine s agency, which leads you on a search for a young woman and a colony of synths.Navigate through the growing conflict between the synths, the Children of Atom, and the local townspeople. For console players looking to make their own changes to Fallout 4, mod support will be coming to Xbox One later this month and PS4 in June.TrustedReviews will be diving headfirst into Far Harbor and provide you with a full review as soon as we can.Source: press releasecomments powered by Disqus

All this comes together to create a terrific atmosphere and, again, one that stands out from everything else you ve come across before.Much like the Painting quest in the aforementioned Oblivion, or the Simulator mission in Fallout 3, Far Harbor tries its luck by pushing the boat out and succeeds as much as it trips over its own feet.It most definitely has its moments – and, more importantly, will grab your interest almost immediately – but the execution is just a tad wonky.Throw in that Valentine still has the best jabs of all your companions, and it s just a way to heighten the experience simply by making a gameplay-related choice.I doubt anyone is going to want to replay such moments to see how they can differ, but there s a more flexible way to deal with things when an in-the-moment decision comes out of nowhere.Buy Now: Far Harbor from Amazon £19.99 ShopTo.net £19.99 VerdictFallout 4 s Far Harbor DLC is a great expansion of everything that made the game so good in the first place.
We may try on new roles, but it s usually something more mundane like manager or goofy uncle.Gone are the days of pretending to be a rock star or a queen or a dragon. So, I changed my shirt from yellow to blue and became Rick from Rick and Morty. If you ve never been to a geek convention, it can be a jarring experience the first time you see Iron Man hanging out with the World of Warcraft guy in a hotel lobby next to Jayne s giant hat. This was abundantly clear when I went to a Fallout-themed New Year s party dressed as Nick Valentine this past year.By becoming Nick and hanging out with like-minded people, though, I could do it in this bar.

YouTube Gaming is going all-in at the Electronic Entertainment Expo E3 , the big game trade show in Los Angeles starting June 12.Last year, YouTube drew millions of gamers to its livestream of events, such as the fan event where Bethesda unveiled Fallout 4.This year, YouTube Gaming will blanket the show with coverage again with dozens of livestreams scheduled throughout the week on a new event page just for E3.You ll be able to browse videos and streams, chat live with fellow gamers, vote for your favorite trailers in the legendary Trailer Battle, and catch up on announcements you might have missed.I m thrilled to be teaming up with YouTube again for live coverage of E3, Keighley said in an email to GamesBeat. At the end of the day, E3 — at least in the eyes of consumers — is really anchored by the press conferences, and all of those are still taking place as part of our global livestream. The game industry industry needs an event like E3, but the industry-only format feels antiquated.

AMD has also released a new driver update for their Radeon graphics cards that's performance optimized for Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment's latest and highly anticipated multiplayer first-person shooter.Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.3 includes optimizations for Overwatch along with two other games: Total War: Warhammer, and Dota 2 with the Vulkan API update.Interestingly, AMD has managed to optimize their driver for Total War: Warhammer ahead of Nvidia, who mentioned there were some issues with the game while using the GeForce 368.22 driver. This new driver also includes Crossfire profiles for Overwatch and Total War: Warhammer, and addresses a number of bugs with games like Fallout 4 and The Division. As always, you can let Radeon Settings perform an automatic update to grab these new drivers, or you can get a manual installer from our driver download section.
The Australian Labor Party's ALP's senator Stephen Conroy has formalised his claim of parliamentary privilege over documents seized in last week's Australian Federal Police raid of his office and the homes of two of his staffers. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC says Conroy's claim for privilege extends to all words spoken, and acts done, in the course of, or for purposes of, or incidental to, parliamentary proceedings .To Vulture South, that looks broad enough to include notes of conversations taken by the AFP during the raid, should they fall under the definition of privilege Conroy's letter gave.Conroy says his next move will be to request an action to determine privilege from the Clerk of the Senate, Dr Rosemary Laing. The warrant bears out speculation that campaign documents, including the ALP's National Broadband Network policy, could have been swept up.The first carries a maximum penalty of two years' jail for the leaker; while the latter applies the same penalty to the person that receives the document.
Dan Kenyon via Getty ImagesWhether online gaming is bad for teens — as many believe — or actually maybe not so bad — as others believe — the one take-it-to-the-bank is that gaming has become a huge part of the entertainment industry and is not likely to go away anytime soon.Common Sense founder James P. Steyer wrote in the new report s introduction, We are experiencing a transformative change in the way children interact with others, with implications for their social and emotional development. But it also reminds me of when my parents bought our first television and the neighbors came over to see the home screen. They even developed little trays so that the family could eat dinner together while watching TV; not so remarkably, they were — and still are — called TV trays.Oh, and one other big one: the ability to engage in real-time social experiences without physically being in the same place — a huge 21st century skill.Compare that to Fallout 4, a video game that sold 12 million units and had $750 million in sales within 24 hours of its release a month before on a Tuesday.
Unfortunately, where Fallout 4 is concerned, familiarity has become part of its lasting legacy.A meant-to-be-emotionally-charged offhand reference to the son I ignored for close to 40 hours and eventually shot in the main game aside, the breadcrumb trail to the expansion's island setting and its slow, gloomy boat-ride reveal is genuinely refreshing. The town's opposing faction – the returning nut-case cult the Children of Atom – fare better and the brief supernatural elements complement the island's foggy, ghoulish aesthetic. The religious group's home, a derelict submarine called The Nucleus, houses a few sympathetic residents, casting the band of misfits as more than simple indoctrinated weirdos.Aside from a notable excursion into possibly the best Fallout vault ever no really, it's almost worth the cost price alone and a few notable loot drops, there really is little to recommend about Far Harbor and that's without even dwelling on the unforgivably bad frame-rate on console when you catch even a slight glimpse of whispy fog, or the aggressively boring 'virtual reality' Minecraft-meets-tower-defence puzzle section at the mid-way point. It's more Fallout 4 for those in desperate need of further adventures in the wasteland and completing the multitude of fetch-this/kill-that side-quests brings the total run-time to at least the 10 hour mark, but the Far Harbor expansion exists as a disappointing microcosm of the core failings of its parent game, where shallow storytelling, graphical glitches and formulaic design top a list of 'it's good if you can ignore' caveats that's now too lengthy to forgive.
In news potentially more terrifying than handing over the trigger to presumptive Republican Party nominee Donald Trump, the US government has revealed the computers used to command its nuclear arsenal aren't exactly cutting edge.According to a new report from the Government Accountability Office via Business Insider , some of the machines still have 8-inch floppy disk drives.Related: Here's our totally unrelated Fallout 4 reviewBefore you go running for the nearest nuclear bunker, like the one in Deep Impact, know that plans to upgrade to a system that doesn t pre-date Ronald Reagan s presidency are in play. The report points out: The agency is planning to update data storage solutions, port expansion processors, portable terminals, and desktop terminals, which are all scheduled to be completed by the end of fiscal year 2017."Well, that s good, we feel much better about that.We definitely won t be digging a 50-ft deep hole in the backyard and building a shelter this weekend.
And I don t necessarily mean for me just because I ve been on the edge of my seat the past ten days covering the huge Oracle case against Google for allegedly stealing its Java programming code.I mean for Google, which won.For now. With its unanimous verdict handed down yesterday in a 19th-floor courtroom in San Francisco, the studious and no-nonsense federal jury bestowed its blessings upon the Mountain View-based search giant for using code it had taken from Sun Microsystems and then harnessed to create its astonishingly successful Android operating system. For now.Oracle immediately vowed to fight on, even though this was the second time in four years that the Redwood Shores cloud-computing giant had struck out in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge William Alsup, a no-nonsense guy in his own right.Nevertheless, Oracle feels the jury was wrong and that Google illegally used stuff belonging to Sun, which was later bought by Oracle, and to this day continues to make billions of dollars off Android-powered smartphones full of mobile advertisements with Java inside. To put it mildly, Oracle s still pretty much bent out of shape over this.Google s use of the relatively small amount of Java code, while protected by copyright, was kosher, the jury agreed, because it was protected under a legal inclusion called the fair-use doctrine.Among other things, Google engineers used the material, known as APIs,  to come up with something – Android – that was dramatically new and different than anything Sun could lay claim to at the time. And since that fit the definition of being transformative, the Java code could be used by Google without it having to buy the very expensive licensing rights.Or so said the eight women and two men in the jury box.None of them, by the way, would talk to me or my fellow reporters as we stalked them in the hallway yesterday afternoon.Four shaked their heads as they passed us heading for the elevators; the others slipped out a back door like some Paul Simon lyric.Judging by the jurors faces, it seemed as if the panel had agreed collectively to blow off  the Fourth Estate, keeping mum on why they did what they did.In the verdict s wake, life goes on and fallout and analysis settles like a fine mist over the tech landscape that is Silicon Valley.First, here s my take:And here s what my colleague Joe Mullin over at Ars Technica had to say about the verdict:The inimitable Sarah Jeong over at Motherboard added this:Meanwhile, Joel Rosenblatt, covering the trial for Bloomberg, came up with a fine lede on his story this morning:Finally, Mike Bailey, director of research at FBB Capital Partners, which holds shares in Alphabet, Google s parent company, emailed me these thoughts:And last but certainly not least to investors, shares of Google are trading a bit higher today while Oracle s stock looks fairly flat.I suppose Oracle investors are more focused right now on licking their wounds and preparing to do more battle down the road than they are in buying or selling their shares in any big way.For now.Credit: Google photo by Matt O Brien; Oracle photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images     Tags: Google, Oracle
One turns certain characters into Thomas the Tank Engine on the PC version of Fallout 4 a mod replaced dragons with Thomas in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim .The mods, however, are probably even more crucial to maintaining Fallout 4 s place on Steam s most-played list, where it is usually in the top 10 with perennial hits like Civilization V, Ark: Survival Evolved, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.Consoles have previously seen player-created content, but that is typically built with in-game tools and rarely do they fiddle with a game s code in the same way that a mod does.Bethesda already brought official mod support to Fallout 4 in a beta update, and it works by installing them through an easy-to-use menu built into the game.Community developers can submit their mods to the publisher, and all approved add-ons will go up on Bethesda s mods page.It s likely that most of the mods you find here will work on Xbox One because Bethesda isn t letting in copyrighted materials on its official channel, but you can still get stuff like modern firearms, better scopes, and craftable cats … which I m going to install right now!To get Xbox One s Fallout 4 fans excited about mod support, Microsoft highlighted some of the best creations that ll work on day one. These include Snap n Build, Alien Assault Rifle, and Conquest.
