Microsoft today added a bunch of new features to its Edge browser, helping bring it to parity with Chrome in some areas while adding some unique touches in others. Perhaps most notably, Edge now has a password generator and monitor, helping you keep your accounts safe from hackers and making sure you’re not using the same login information for every website. The browser will automatically suggest a password when you sign up for a new account or change an old password, and the new safety monitor will let you know if your login information has been found on the shady… This story continues at The Next WebOr just read more coverage about: Microsoft

Android being open source software allows it to be installed on devices and used in cases that Google may have never imagined or allowed. Those include some set-top boxes, desktops, laptops, watches, single-board computers or SBCs, and everything in between. Google, however, does have a system in place that keeps Android from spiraling out of its control completely. One such … Continue reading

Microsoft is adding a new Edge feature that will be familiar to Chrome and select other browser users: an alert when your password is compromised. Called Password Monitor, the security feature is designed to alert users when their password has been discovered as the result of a third-party breach, such as from an old forum you used to post on … Continue reading

A render showing how Otter.ai’s Chrome extension works in Google Meet. | Image: Otter.ai You can now use automated transcription service Otter.ai to transcribe and provide closed captions for Google Meet calls with the help of a new Chrome extension. Meetings will be transcribed in real time, and transcripts will be saved right to your Otter account so you can access and share them later. Otter.ai says the extension works with all of its plans, meaning even free users will be able to take advantage of the tool. To set it up, first download the Otter.ai Chrome extension here. Once you’ve installed it, head over to meet.google.com and then click on the Otter extension. (You might need to click the puzzle piece icon to open the extensions menu to find it.) Then, you may be prompted to log in to use the extension, though I... Continue reading…

In the years before the pandemic, I had to spend hours transcribing interviews or events recorded in noisy hallways or hotel coffee shops. While the coronavirus has put a halt to all of that for now, I still have to get on a ton of video conferencing calls. So, I appreciate any tool that helps me with recording and transcribing. Today, one of those apps, Otter.ai, announced that its new Chrome extension will allow users to transcribe Google Meet calls directly from the browser. That’s an extremely handy feature — so you should be incredibly excited. A lot of my interviews are scheduled… This story continues at The Next Web

Google has dozens of apps and services, some of them a bit esoteric while many are popular and useful for both end users and businesses. One thing that is common among most of these is the need for an Internet connection. Google, after all, is primarily an Internet company. That Internet connection, however, might not always be available or stable … Continue reading

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Google is releasing a new version of Chrome this week that will improve its dark mode support, alongside removing FTP and Adobe Flash support. The dark mode improvements can be found on both Windows and Chrome OS. There are refinements to both the light and dark modes in Chrome OS, with the themes updated for the app launcher, quick settings, and shelf parts of Chrome OS. How To Geek also reports that the Windows 10 dark mode is improved with Chrome 88, with scroll bars finally appearing dark. Unfortunately, these are currently limited to the settings, bookmarks, history, and new tab pages of Chrome 88 and not across all websites with dark themes. Elsewhere, Google is also removing some old web technology in Chrome 88. The File... Continue reading…

Although there is no shortage of password managers promising better protection for online accounts and apps, that often means you will have another piece of software to maintain and mind apart from your web browser. Modern browsers, of course, now have their own password management systems that does pretty much the same things, just for website and web apps. With … Continue reading

Let’s face it, we’ve all had some terrible passwords in our past. Whether it’s using the same password for every site, using some combination of personal information, or simply not using enough unique characters, many of us would do well to strengthen our online security habits. To that end, Google‘s latest update to Chrome (version 88) makes it easy to fix all your weak passwords in one go, assuming you’re already using the browser for password management. On the desktop, simply tap on your user icon on the upper right corner of the browser, and tap the key icon. Alternatively,… This story continues at The Next WebOr just read more coverage about: Google Chrome,Google

Hear ye, hear ye, my fellow Google Docs denizens: Have I got just the treat for you. It's a clever new system of next-level shortcuts you can add into the Google Docs website — shortcuts that go beyond the basic options already built into the service and give you a more Slack-like, command-line-driven method of performing advanced actions. I've been using 'em myself for a couple days now, and lemme tell ya: They totally change the way you use Google Docs — for the better. The shortcuts come courtesy of a tasty and relatively new little Chrome extension called gSweets. The way it works is simple: You just add the extension into your browser, and the next time you open up a document in Docs on your computer, you'll see a snazzy new gray prompt at the beginning of every new line.To read this article in full, please click here
