While nominally aimed at comic book enthusiasts, the franchise wisely dispensed with dense backstories, superfluous characters and silly costumes in favour of the bare, leather-clad essentials. There are simply too many second-tier characters, carried-over plot threads and half-remembered flashbacks to tell a cohesive story. This is particularly evident in the first act which seesaws wildly between plots and continents as the many too many protagonists embark on disconnected quests and errands. They all look like Skeletor s B-team henchmen from He-Man: Masters Of The Universe. For example, there s a scene where these ultra-cartoony, lycra-clad villains are hanging out in the ruins of Auschwitz.By our count, this scene has now appeared in the X-Men movies four times.
Google's new message apps Allo and Duo have been released to Google Play for Android devices in a new form - not actually available, just appearing there as placeholders.Users such as yourself will be able to see the apps in the places where they'll be listed in the Google Play app store, BUT, you wont be able to download them until Google actually makes them available. As you'll remember from our Allo feature yesterday, Google will be releasing this app as a connected-to-your-phone-number sort of messenger app that uses the web to send images, texts, links, emoji, and a bunch more oddities we don't yet know about fully. This and Duo will be released later this year - this Summer, says Google - on both Android and iOS.The code-name for this app is Fireball. You can see what Google has given the app store title "Google Duo" in the Google Play app store listing for Duo now, too.
That said, the 93-year-old comics industry icon is no spring chicken and his breakneck appearance schedule is finally starting to slow down. While this is certainly significant news for fans of all things Comic Con, it is certainly not surprising. The former president and chairman of Marvel Comics has admitted that his hearing and eyesight are failing, but that s an issue that plenty of men half his age can relate to.Aside from that, it sounds like this industry legend is just looking to indulge in some hard-earned R, and we don t begrudge him that for a second. So if you re an East Coast resident, and you ve been looking to shake hands with the man responsible for some of your favorite superheros, you may want to cancel whatever plans you had for October 6-9.That s when New York Comic Con 2016 will invade the Javits Center in Manhattan and when the legendary Stan Lee will take his final bow at this Big Apple event

ComicBook.com has noted the lack of the word 'comics', which suggests DC's goal was to create a single unified logo it could use on all of its multimedia projects - just like Marvel have been doing.Marvel/NetflixIn addition to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders miniseries, it's rumoured that Netflix will be bringing even more Marvel properties to the small screen.Rob Liefeld, co-creator of Deadpool and creator of Cable has also gone on record to say that he wants Mad Men's Jon Hamm in the role.It managed to get Battlefront out in November, just ahead of the new film's release and a fuller game might have seen it either buggier or pushed back into the new year, where excitement for the new Star Wars had died down.Hopefully future Battlefront games will have a better mix of single and multiplayer content.Battlestar GalacticaFans of the original Battlestar TV series take not, because Dynamite has announced via ComicBook.com it will be launching an ongoing comic-based continuation of the series.

It s not Cap s shiny new shield, which has a fancy laser cutter on it to make up for the fact that Sam Wilson is still running around with the old Captain America shield.Yes, this is the shocking moment that comes from the very end of today s Captain America: Steve Rogers 1, the new Marvel ongoing series that picks up with the newly-rejuvenated if you ve not kept up, Steve s spent the past few years being a wrinkly old man with no superpowers, hence why Sam Wilson, a.k.a.This first issue tells two stories: the first being the modern-set adventures of Steve, joined by his girlfriend Sharon Carter, and c-list patriotically-themed heroes Jack Flag and Free Spirit remember Jack Flag s goofy boom box laser gun?The second is the framing device, set in 1926, which reveals that after a chance encounter with a woman who saves her from her abusive husband, Steve s mother Sarah is wooed into joining Hydra in its earliest days—setting up that young Steve simply followed in his darling mother s footsteps as an agent of evil, simply playing the long con of being the most patriotic hero in America for three quarters of a century. It s always exciting to be at the start of something completely ludicrous, and just see where it goes—because this is definitely right up there in the ludicrous comics nonsense category. After all, Steve Rogers has got more movies to star in soon.
HTT has said that it will build its Hyperloop capsules out of Vibranium, named after the material used to make Captain America s shield, reports The Verge. For those of you who might not be acquainted, the Hyperloop is a theoretical transportation vehicle originally proposed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, which would transport passengers in capsules that travel through giant vacuum tubes.Of course, such speeds will require that the capsules be especially secure — which is precisely why Hyperloop startups like HTT are turning to cutting edge materials like Vibranium. In the Marvel universe, Vibranium is a rare metal of alien origin found in the fictional African nation of Wakanda, home to another Marvel superhero, Black Panther. The company developed the material in collaboration with Slovakian materials manufacturer c2i.HTT, meanwhile, has yet to demo a working prototype for the public.

A series of superpowered shenanigans left him buried in rubble for thousands of years, only to be resurrected by cultists who want him to rule the world again with his extremely old-school values.Great characters, and missed opportunitiesAs Apocalypse gathers his new gang of mutant buddies and plots to destroy everything in a way that is unbelievably predictable, we're treated to little pyrotechnic snippets of mutant life after the events of Days of Future Past. The relationships that bloom in the first trilogy are just getting started here. One of the best scenes in the movie comes early on, when she saves Nightcrawler from an evil battle royale club in East Germany where mutants are forced to fight to the death while humans take bets on who will win.Quicksilver is also back, searching for his father, Magneto.Sadly this mega battle is about as paint-by-numbers as you can get.
He may get another shot in Thor: Ragnarok.Image: DisneySeveral years ago, rumors began to swirl that Marvel Studios was going to send Mark Ruffalo s Hulk into space for an adaptation of the popular comic storyline, Planet Hulk. The usually on point blog Joblosays Ragnarok will feature a version of that story, which found Hulk battling Gladiator-style on a distant planet.Beyond that, the site says Hulk will be sporting some version of the one shoulder outfit from the Planet Hulk comics, the first time he ll have a new look in the MCU.If it s just dropped in there for a single set piece, you give the fans what they want, and you have a fun jumping-off point for the rest of the film.Again, since Thor: Ragnarok has yet to start shooting, these are obviously still rumors, but they certainly make sense.

FX Networks has put its support behind the upcoming X-Men spinoff series Legion with a full-season order that will have the show begin filming later this year. The vote of confidence in the project was accompanied by the first, official photo from the show.Executive produced by Fargo television series creator Noah Hawley, Legion isn t expected to connect with the X-Men movie universe despite the comic-book roots of Stevens character, the title of the show, and certain elements of its premise. In the Marvel Comics universe, Haller was the son of telepathic X-Men team leader Charles Xavier, and was plagued by a dissociative identity disorder that gave each of his various personas control of one of his mutant abilities.Marvel Television is thrilled to not only have our first partnership with FX go to series, but working with the enormously talented Noah Hawley makes it even better, said Marvel TV s Jeph Loeb, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, in a statement accompanying the announcement.Legion is expected to begin filming this summer in Vancouver and to premiere on FX in early 2017.
