Nintendo is unveiling an updated version of its Switch console today, with promises of improved battery life. The new model will include approximately two extra hours of battery life, bringing the estimates of usage to between 4.5 and 9 hours.Nintendo’s current Switch has an estimated battery life of between 2.5 and 6.5 hours.Nintendo’s Switch product page doesn’t reveal exactly how the company has achieved this improved battery life, but it’s likely thanks to a new system-on-chip inside and updated memory.A recent FCC listing revealed that Nintendo was planning to update the Switch with a new CPU and storage. This new model, dubbed HAC-001(-01), should start appearing in stores soon.
Most recently, Nintendo dropped a trailer on July 8 which, among other things, showed us four new Pokemon.Sword and Shield aren't the first Pokemon games developed specifically for the Switch. They follow Pokemon Let's Go: Pikachu and Let's Go: Eevee, reimagined versions of 1998's well-regarded Pokemon Yellow. This likely means a harder experience than that found in the Let's Go games, which, while a delight to play, presented almost no challenge whatsoever to the PokeMasters among us.Another Let's Go feature noticeably absent from the Sword and Shield trailer is rideable Pokemon, which replaced bikes and flight skills (known in the games as HMs).The launch trailer depicts scenes that certainly look British, with fields reminiscent of England's countryside and buildings that look like English manors.
Uber is launching a new shopping app with commerce partner Cargo, a startup it signed an exclusive global partnership with last year. The app will feature items curated by Uber including products like Nintendo Switch, Apple hardware, Away luggage, Glossier cosmetics and more, and will be available to download for Uber riders making trips in cars that have Cargo consoles on board. The Cargo app will also provide in-ride entertainment, including movies from Universal Studios available to purchase for between $5 and $10 each (with bundle discounts for multiple movies), which are then viewable in the Movies Anywhere app.Uber riders will also benefit by receiving 10 percent of their purchase value back in Uber Cash, which they can then use either on future trips, or on other purchases made through the Cargo app while riding.Uber drivers also benefit, earning 25 percent of the value of items purchased from the Cargo Box in-car, and an additional $1 for each first purchase by a passenger through the new app.Riders just need to grab the iOS or Android app and then scan the QR code located on the Cargo Box in their driver’s car.
By way of a quick recap, Cargo has so far partnered with brands across electronics, confectionery, and more, to let ride-hailing passengers buy items such as chocolate bars and earphones during their trip.Drivers display the goods in a little transparent case inside the vehicle, and through the Cargo store mobile web app, riders order and pay using the usual mobile payment services, such as PayPal or Android Pay.Initially, Cargo worked as an unofficial supplier to drivers within the ride-hailing industry, but last year Cargo entered into an official partnership with Uber to become its exclusive commerce provider globally. However, the main thrust of today’s news is that Cargo is going deeper into e-commerce with a broader marketplace that sells up to five curated products each week through a “daily deals” offering. At launch, this includes a Nintendo Switch, Amazon Echo, and Away luggage — and riders can earn 10% cashback to redeem against future Uber rides or Cargo store purchases.Elsewhere in the Cargo Store app, riders are promised one reward each day — all they have to do is scan the Cargo box QR code and choose a face-down digital card on their phone’s screen.
Nintendo already announced an entirely new Switch console this month, the Switch Lite, and now it’s bumping some of the specs on the existing Switch with a slightly updated version, spotted by The Verge. This update improves the hardware right where it counts when it comes to Switch portable playing power. The new model will provide between 4.5 and 9 hours of battery life, depending on use, which is a big bump from the 2.5 to 6.5 hour rating on the original hardware that’s been offered to date. This is likely an improvement derived from a change in the processor used in the console, as well as more power-efficient memory, both of which were detailed in an FCC filing from last week.Nintendo’s official Switch comparison page lists the models with improved battery life as model number ‘HAC-001(-01), with the bracketed addition distinguishing it from the original. You can check the version based on the serial number, with XKW preceding the newer hardware, and XAW starting off serials for the older, less power efficient version.
Mechanical parts eventually degrade through wear and tear, especially when such parts are exposed to extensive use.But when that happens just four months after buying a relatively expensive accessory, there’s bound to be some rather dissatisfied owners complaining loudly on the Internet. That seems to be the exact case with owners of the Nintendo Switch Joy-cons who are clamoring for Nintendo to acknowledge what seems to be an increasingly common mechanical problem with the controllers. In fact, there is no official name as Nintendo continues to remain silent on the matter which only serves to increase the frustration of owners. The problem sounds almost too trivial to make noise about.A growing number of users are reporting that their Joy-cons seem to gain a life of their own.
It descends with a flutter of tweets and posts, and Amazon blares the news from connected speakers everywhere: another Prime Day.I used to be really excited, sadly enough: games I've craved, suddenly on flash sale.Kindle books for a song.Prime Day's page feels like hugging an octopus.Which is why places like CNET (my employer) work so hard to help you find the best stuff among Amazon's labyrinth of cluttered deals....and sometimes, you don't even land on the deals
You can buy an adapter and honest-to-goodness GameCube controllers for use in the Nintendo Switch’s Super Smash Bros.During Prime Day, you can get a great deal on it.Available now on Amazon for $27, which is a 46% savings compared to its standard price, the PowerA Wireless GameCube-Style Controller for Nintendo Switch is set up almost identically to the traditional GameCube controller. You have the four face buttons in the correct positions, as well as the left analog stick and right yellow C-stick to perform your smash moves. The main difference compared to Nintendo’s own GameCube controller is that there are two shoulder buttons rather than one, as well as the Home and Capture buttons in the middle. The directional pad is also slightly larger, but it is not traditionally used in Super Smash Bros. games unless you plan on taunting your opponents.
Amazon’s Prime Day — and the competing events at other retailers — is coming to a close, but you still have time to score a deal or two on new video games, consoles, and accessories. You’re not going to see sales this significant again before Black Friday, so if there’s a game you know you want to play, now is the time to buy it.Buy a Nintendo Switch, get a free game and accessory ($329)Available at Walmart rather than Amazon, this Nintendo Switch bundle has everything you need to get started with the system. It includes a standard Switch console, complete with the dock, Joy-Con grip, and Joy-Con controllers, plus it lets you choose between five games: Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.Alongside the console and game, you can also choose to add on either a charging dock and stand, or case and screen protector.
The unexplained removal of one of the most popular, ultra-difficult Super Mario Maker 2 courses is raising concerns about Nintendo's moderation policies for the popular Switch title.Super Mario Maker 2 review: A great sequel, playable on a better consoleDavid Hunt, a popular Mario speedrunner who goes by GrandPooBear online, noted this morning that his level "Pile of Poo: Kai-Zero G" had been unceremoniously removed from Nintendo's Super Mario Maker 2 servers.Since its upload on July 5, the low-gravity course—which took its name from the ultra-hard set of Mario ROM hacks known as Kaizo games—had received over 1,200 "hearts" from over 10,500 players as of last night.Three years ago, he found all of his popular levels in the original Super Mario Maker had been deleted, a state of affairs Nintendo was not able to adequately explain in a recorded call with the streamer at the time.Nintendo maintains a Code of Conduct that allows it to remove Super Mario Maker 2 courses for a number of reasons, including exploitation of in-game bugs, inappropriate content "such as offensive language," and explicit advertising or promotional materials.
With 2019 already halfway over, it’s becoming painfully clear that Nintendo isn’t going to release a Game Boy Classic Edition to celebrate the console’s 30th birthday. The GBAConsolizer helps take some of the sting out of that gross oversight, letting Game Boy, GBC, and GBA fans enjoy their favourite titles in HD on a big screen TV—but you’ll need to bring your own games and a big stash of cash. The Super Nintendo helped usher in the era of 16-bit gaming in the early ‘90s, but since the Game Boy was released the previous year, Nintendo created the Super Game Boy to bridge the two consoles. It was a special SNES cartridge that accepted Game Boy carts and allowed them to be played on a TV screen by piggy-backing on the Super Nintendo’s hardware.Later, the Game Boy Player accessory allowed for the same functionality using the Nintendo GameCube, but the results were still limited to just standard definition graphics. The GBAConsolizer recreates what the Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player could do, but in a standalone box that includes a handful of video tweaking options to help those old-school titles look as good as they can on a modern hi-def TV.
There are casual gamers who like to occasionally pick up a game to relax for a few minutes, and there are more dedicated players who will devote hours to completing games and unlocking achievements.Over the past few years, 8BitDo has cemented itself as one of the better third-party controller makers with designs inspired by the gamepads included with classic consoles, but upgraded with extra features, wireless Bluetooth functionality, and improved hardware. If you’ve still got an original NES or SNES console plugged into your TV, 8BitDo’s even got plug and play wireless controller adapters so you can enjoy retro titles without the hassle of cords. The company’s controller lineup has primarily focused on retro gaming so far, but when the Switch arrived it started adding more modern features to its controllers like extra shoulder buttons and analog joysticks. The 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ was first revealed back in 2018 around E3 as a prototype, with features like rumbling haptic feedback, wireless Bluetooth support, built-in motion controls, better ergonomics than the company’s SN30 Pro, and USB-C charging. It was expected to arrive sometime in late 2018, but 8BitDo ended up delaying its release while the company did some fine-tuning, as it explained on Twitter earlier this year.

So Full Metal Rumble is another “Japanese arcade war game” in the style of Nintendo’s Advance Wars, but it’s also more than just an expansion for the original Tiny Metal.Developer Area 35 has added a number of key features that flesh out the play experience.I enjoyed Tiny Metal, but I didn’t stick with it.Since its release, I’ve also spent a lot of time with the excellent Advance Wars-like Wargroove. The sequel also has significant features that make battles feel more complex and demanding.Transporting riflemen and lancers around the field is now a crucial part of Tiny Metal’s strategy.
