For the past couple of years, a fairly mysterious tech startup called Wonder has been teasing us with its plans to offer a high-end gaming experience on your smartphone. One year ago, it revealed in an interview with The Verge that it was working on its own Android smartphone that would have its gaming software installed. Now, the company has relaunched its website, with the first public images of what its WonderOS gaming software will actually look like.Basically, WonderOS is aiming to make your smartphone the only device you will use to play any game, whether it is released for mobile, console, or PC platforms. The site also seems to signal a small change in direction for Wonder. It no longer mentions launching its own smartphone, but its FAQ page does state it is “working with multiple device manufacturers and OEMs to integrate WonderOS on smartphones all over the world.” It is currently signing up users whocould be selected to beta test WonderOS on their phone.
Mainly, we're hoping Nintendo will offer more solid details on titles which have already been announced such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, Link's Awakening Remake and Luigi's Mansion 3 - not to mention Animal Crossing on the Switch. If we're being really optimistic, there could even be news about the new Nintendo Switch – but it's not super likely given the lack of concrete rumors.Keep up to date with all the latest E3 2019 newsNintendo has already announced that Pokémon Sword and Shield will be hitting the Nintendo Switch in late 2019, with the next generation of Pokémon games seeing players traversing the brand new region of Galar (based on Britain). While we already know the new core Pokémon games will bring with them fresh Pokémon to train, we don't know much about these outside of the starter options. We also don't know much about the game's new features (or which will be making a return) or how Sword and Shield will differ, if at all.
Their bet was that there was an audience who wanted to play games on the TV but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a full-fledged console that was overkill for the large flood of indie games out there. After $8.6 million kickstart, Ouya now has to build its consolesYesterday marked a bit of an inflection point in the short and sordid history of the microconsole.First, Ouya owner Razer announced that it would finally be shutting down the system's online game platform on June 25.The Ouya brand, and Razer's "Forge TV" follow-up, have been on the equivalent of corporate life support since 2015, but the shutdown marks a distinct end point to a nearly seven-year saga that started with unprecedented crowdfunding excitement for Ouya's bold microconsole idea. The portable, black-and-white, crank-controlled Playdate microconsole—aiming for a 2020 launch at $149—is decidedly not going to provide much competition for the kinds of gaming experiences you can get on a full-fledged console, a high-end gaming PC, or even your smartphone.
