A little less than a month ago, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 855+, a revised and corrected version – or better to say overclocked – of the chip that animated almost all top-end smartphones of the first half of 2019.

Many of the manufacturers will adopt it for the last devices of this year, but in 2020 the score will change and the new melody will respond to the name of Snapdragon 865.

However, the next-generation SoC seems to be already well underway in its development process.

Given that an alleged first test concerning it has just leaked into the network.

In fact, on Geekbench, the Snapdragon 865 has started to show what it is made of, regulating the entire current competition in multi-core, the result is an excellent score of 12946.

Even the Apple A12 Bionic chip, so far a reference point in the mobile sector, has managed to put it in difficulty, remaining at almost 2 thousand points behind.

The first laptop with Qualcomm’s 8-core Snapdragon 8cx processor is Samsung’s Galaxy Book S, and if Samsung’s claims hold up, this could be the Windows laptop to buy for people who find themselves often working out of the back of a cab.

Samsung said it’s a “premium anodized aluminum frame on the top and base,” but it feels a bit plasticky and cheap.

It resembles a Surface Laptop 2, which is a good thing, because it looks sleek and modern.

The screen resolution is 1,920 x 1,080, and it looks sharp, though it didn’t get as bright as I would have liked.

It is a touch screen, and Samsung said you can wake the device with a quick tap, just like a smartphone.

Previous attempts at implementing Qualcomm ARM chips in laptops have resulted in poor performance, but the 8cx aims to correct that.

Samsung always has a few surprises planned for its big launch events, so after announcing the new Galaxy Note 10, Samsung announced an ARM-based laptop with built-in LTE connectivity and a claim of a whopping 23-hours of battery life.

The Galaxy Book S looks to deliver a streamlined computing experience for people constantly on the go.

Like the previous Galaxy Book 2, Samsung’s new laptop runs Windows 10, and instead of a processor from Intel or AMD, the Galaxy Book S comes with a Snapdragon 8cx chip from Qualcomm.

Additionally, the Galaxy Book S includes a 13-inch full HD screen, a slim profile, USB-C charging, AKG stereo speakers, and a silent, fanless design.

As for specs, we’re looking at 8GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and 802.11ac wi-fi.

Samsung says the Galaxy Book S was also created to deliver a more mobile-friendly computing experience with touch-to-wake features and nearly instant power on times.

Samsung laptops have never caught on in the states quite like they have elsewhere, but the company hasn’t stopped trying.

Its newest laptop is called the Galaxy Book S, and it was announced live at the Samsung Unpacked press event, alongside the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus, on August 7.

The Galaxy Book S is a new laptop design with a slim profile, thin bezels, and spacious touchpad.

Samsung laptops in the past have been known for super-lightweight designs, so we expect the Galaxy Book S to continue that tradition.

In addition to a microSD card slot, the Galaxy Book S will include two USB-C ports — one on each side.

These are not, of course, Thunderbolt 3, as that is an Intel technology.

Samsung just announced the Galaxy Book S, a device that looks to promise the best of both worlds by marrying the the battery life and LTE data of a smartphone with the power and feature set of a full Windows 10 laptop.

We were able to try out the Galaxy Book S for a few minutes after the reveal, but unfortunately, the two biggest features here — the new Qualcomm 8cx processor, and the 23-hour battery life Samsung is promising that will provide — are hard to gauge in a brief hands-on.

Here’s what I can say, though: the Galaxy Book S wasn’t noticeably laggy or slow when I was using it, and it apps like Edge and Paint 3D ran as expected.

But that’s hardly conclusive one way or the other, and we’ll obviously have to put it through some proper testing with some more serious applications when it releases next month.

(An early demo of the 8cx running Firefox conducted by my colleague Sean Hollister last December also impressed, though, so there’s some room for optimism here.)

As for the hardware itself, Samsung’s done a nice job here.

With the next generation of wireless network, 5G, set to open the door to a host of new connected-device markets, Qualcomm has been remaking its marketing operations to accommodate a dramatic expansion of its customer base.

After years of catering to the same 300 or so mobile manufacturers, the telecom equipment giant is now in a position to serve business-to-business customers ranging from factory operators and automakers to speaker brands and performance venues.

But the company is also finding that not all industry leaders are well-versed in what it sees as some of 5G’s more far-flung applications beyond mobile speeds—uses like coordinating assembly lines, remaking retail spaces or streaming media to connected cars.

Qualcomm CMO Penny Baldwin spoke to Adweek about how the company is marketing across these varying levels of technical familiarity, 5G’s potential to change marketing and how her department is eating its own 5G “dog food,” so to speak.

With 5G expected to bring wireless service to an array of devices beyond handsets, how does that change the pool of customers to which Qualcomm is now marketing?

It will have a transformative impact on our marketing.

Samsung laptops don’t have much prestige in my book.

Despite the gains the company has made on the mobile front, its laptops have always underwhelmed me over the years.

The new Galaxy Book S, though?

It’s just another clamshell laptop that could be mistaken for a Surface Laptop or MacBook Air if you didn’t know better.

It has a full-size keyboard, a spacious touchpad, and insanely long battery life (23 hours, as claimed by Samsung).

But the real reason I’m interested in the Galaxy Book S goes beyond just what your fingers can touch.

Qualcomm might be a contender in the mobile space, but Always Connected Windows laptops powered by Snapdragon 835 and 850 chips have seen mixed results.

Both Intel’s and Qualcomm’s chips combine CPU and GPU cores on a single die, so we’ll look at the performance of each segment of the chips individually and consider their cost and efficiency too.

That means it has eight cores to work with, four of which will be lower-power and operate when efficiency is more important than performance.

That may have been evidenced during a graphics test at Computex, which saw the Intel 8250U maintain a greater CPU score than the Snapdragon part, despite seemingly weaker performance in more productivity-focused tasks.

That’s a more than 20 percent uplift in performance for the Snapdragon SoC and equates to an FPS difference of 29 FPS for the Intel chip (at best), versus the Snapdragon’s 37 FPS.

One of the concerns with Microsoft’s “Always Connected” PC style is the lack of native applications for the Qualcomm hardware under the hood.

(Reuters) — Chipmaker Broadcom said on Thursday it will buy antivirus software maker Symantec’s enterprise security unit for $10.7 billion in cash to scale up its software business through deals.

Shares of Symantec rose 3.6% and Broadcom 2% in extended trading.

Broadcom last year bought U.S. business software maker CA for $18.9 billion and was reportedly in talks to buy infrastructure software company Tibco, which was taken private by Vista Equity Partners for $4.3 billion in 2014.

Its push to software came after a failed attempt last year to buy mobile chipmaker Qualcomm Inc for $117 billion, which was scuttled by the Trump administration, citing national security.

“M has played a central role in Broadcom’s growth strategy and this transaction represents the next logical step in our strategy,” Broadcom Chief Executive Officer Hock Tan said.

Through a string of acquisitions, Tan has propelled the chipmaker that was worth just a few billions to a market capitalization of about $108 billion in the 13 years that he has been at the helm.

Remember when OnePlus offered top tier specs for ridiculously low prices?

Not that you’d know, because OnePlus’ voice seems to have a far greater reach than Xiaomi’s in the U.K. and Europe.

While Xiaomi’s growth in Europe has been rapid, the OnePlus brand’s “flagship killers” carry a certain prestige and rabid fan following that eludes the superior value Mi 9.

For under ÂŁ400 you get a flagship Qualcomm processor and 6GB RAM paired with 64GB storage, which is more than enough and keeps the phone running buttery smooth without a hitch.

I have even started playing some mobile games in my spare time, since the Mi 9 can handle them with little effort.

Many people look at the four-digit long string on the spec sheet to determine what kind of battery performance they should expect, but it’s not always that simple.

At the beginning of July, share price in Symantec surged north as the rumour mill started turning.

It was nothing but gossip at the time, though the first rumours have turned out to be true.

Broadcom is not giving-up on semiconductors whatsoever, but it is diversifying the revenue streams.

Adding Symantec into the mix simply continues the drive towards enterprise IT.

Looking at the investor presentation, in two and a half years Broadcom has undergone considerable evolution.

After the closure of the Symantec acquisition, semiconductors will account for 71% of the total revenues, with software solutions taking the remaining 29%.
