If you were looking for something both uplifting and extremely camp to brighten up your week, we’d like to point you in the direction of Elaine Paige’s Twitter account. On Tuesday afternoon, the West End legend shared a video of herself having her second coronavirus jab and, naturally, performing a specially-written musical number to mark the occasion. To the tune of the Cats ballad Memory, she can be heard singing: “Vaccine, I am having my vaccine, to protect against Covid, make sure you get yours too.“When you have it you’ll understand what happiness is… look, a new life will begin.”“Seriously,” she then says. “When you get the chance, have it. It’s safe, it’s effective, it doesn’t hurt and we all need it, to beat the virus.“So have your vaccine, and make Covid… a Memory,” she jokes.I'm thrilled to say I've added myself to the @ukvacprogress figures by having my 2nd #COVID19 vaccination! PLEASE when you are offered yours have one!! It's safe, didn't hurt & it will help prevent further deaths from this cruel virus. Together let's make #Covid_19 a 'memory!' pic.twitter.com/TkSqCMrNqE— Elaine Paige (@elaine_paige) March 16, 2021Since the vaccine roll-out began last year, a number of high-profile stars have spoken out about receiving the jab.Like Elaine, Dolly Parton also made quite the literal song and dance when she had hers earlier this month, delivering a rewritten version of her classic Jolene while she had the injection.“Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you, please don’t hesitate,” she sang. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, because once you’re dead, then that’s a bit too late.” View this post on InstagramA post shared by Dolly Parton (@dollyparton)Dolly helped fund the Moderna vaccine after donating one million dollars (about £716,000) to the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre in Nashville, Tennessee. The video of herself receiving her first dose was brilliantly captioned on her social media accounts: “Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine.”READ MORE:This Man’s Glorious Walrus Impression During TV News Interview Is Ridiculously DeadpanHarry Styles' Grammys Red Carpet Look Had Everyone Making The Same ComparisonBridgerton's Regé-Jean Page Is Going To Read Us A Bedtime Story

Dolly Parton has requested that plans for a statue of her to be erected in her home state of Tennessee to be put on hold, due to “all that is going on in the world”.In January 2021, Democrat Representative John Mark Windle introduced a bill calling for the country music legend to be honoured in the grounds of the Capitol in Tennessee. However, Dolly has now issued a statement on Twitter, saying she doesn’t believe the time is right for her to be put “on a pedestal”.“I want to thank the Tennessee legislature for their consideration of a bill to erect a statue of me on the Capitol grounds,” she wrote.“I am honoured and humbled by their intention but I have asked the leaders of the state legislature to remove the bill from any and all consideration.”Dolly continued: “Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time.“I hope, though, that somewhere down the road several years from now, or perhaps after I’m gone if you still feel I deserve it, then I’m certain I will stand proud in our great State Capitol as a grateful Tennessean.”She added: “In the meantime, I’ll continue to try to do good work to make this great state proud.”❤️ pic.twitter.com/qD9yGODWtT— Dolly Parton (@DollyParton) February 18, 2021It was revealed last year that Dolly had donated $1 million (£760,000) to coronavirus research, which had contributed massively to the development of the Moderna vaccine. At the time, it was reported that Dolly had become friends with Vanderbilt University surgeon Naji Abumrad after she was involved in a car accident in 2013.At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the doctor showed the Grammy-winning musician the research the university was doing on antibodies to combat Covid-19, and she stumped up a cool million to the Vanderbilt Vaccine Center, which was involved in the Moderna vaccine trial.READ MORE:Dolly Parton Turned Down Donald Trump's Offer To Award Her Medal Of Freedom – TwiceBarack Obama Admits To One Very Large Dolly Parton-Related MistakeDolly Parton Laughs Off Rumours She's Having Secret Gay Affair With Childhood Friend

A new algorithm that predicts the susceptibility of different animals to COVID-19 suggests that horses and camels are at increased risk of catching the virus. The project was initiated by Jacquelyn Brown, a staff scientist at Vanderbilt University and avid equestrian, after she learned that dogs and cats could be infected with COVID-19: I became worried about other animals that might act as reservoirs for the disease or be at risk. Since MERS infects camels, I was concerned about what would happen if my horse could get it?! Horses have massive lungs and a sensitive respiratory system, and we humans… This story continues at The Next Web

At its latest Ignite conference, Microsoft announced a robotics and sensor platform, Premonition, which will be monitoring disease carriers like mosquitos and flies. It will also be sampling these disease carriers and the samples will be analyzed by a cloud-based software stack that will soon be available for a private preview.Microsoft stated that they want to create a system that is similar to a weather monitoring system but it will work to stop the disease outbreak. This is a quite ambitious project and Microsoft has partnered with the Convergence Accelerator Program of National Science Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation to test the tools which it is developing under this project after a lot of research. The company is currently focusing on the diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and in its Redmond campus, they have set up a “Premonition Proving Ground” to allow the researchers to test their robots, to train them, and to analyze the samples they collect. This is an Arthropod Containment Level 2 facility where they can raise and analyze mosquitoes but the company wants this system to be capable of monitoring the entire biome.Till now, the company has said to have scanned more than 80 trillion base-pairs of genomic material for biological threats.According to Ethan Jackson, the senior director of Premonition, the 2014 Ebola outbreak led the company to realize the role of AI and cloud computing in monitoring the biome in new ways.

In an interview with Billboard, Dolly Parton has voiced her indisputable support for Black Lives Matter as well as the importance of changing with the times.“I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen,” the 74-year-old Parton said, referring to the latest wave of racial justice protests sweeping the world.“And of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No!” The Queen of Country also explained her 2018 decision to rename the Dixie Stampede dinner attraction, a Southern-themed horse-riding and pyrotechnics show in Missouri and Tennessee, after it was called a “lily-white kitsch extravaganza that play-acts the Civil War but never once mentions slavery” in a 2017 Slate article.“There’s such a thing as innocent ignorance, and so many of us are guilty of that,” Parton said. “When they said ‘Dixie’ was an offensive word, I thought, ‘Well, I don’t want to offend anybody. This is a business. We’ll just call it The Stampede.’ As soon as you realise that [something] is a problem, you should fix it. Don’t be a dumbass. That’s where my heart is. I would never dream of hurting anybody on purpose.” Parton dropped the word “Dixie,” often used to describe the American South during the time of slavery, about 2½ years before The Dixie Chicks followed suit in June, renaming themselves The Chicks. Other segments of the interview detail Parton’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the singer’s donation of $1 million toward coronavirus research at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre and the release of her inspirational song When Life Is Good Again.“As the Scripture says, ‘To whom much is given, much is required.’” Parton said. “So I look at my life with that every day and think that God expects it of me. ... If I can be an inspiration, then I want to be that. That makes me feel good.”Parton, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, made her debut in 1967 with her album Hello, I’m Dolly. Since then, the artist, actor and businesswoman has won a stunning nine Grammy Awards and received 49 nominations.Read the full interview here.READ MORE: Dolly Parton Will Read Bedtime Stories To Kids To Ease Coronavirus Fears 'I Could Tell Julia Roberts Had A Future': Olympia Dukakis On Steel Magnolias
Singularities – also known as black holes – are so powerful that even light cannot escape their grasp. But what happens when a black hole meets something even stronger, like a wormhole? We know a black hole would win in a fight against Godzilla, Earth’s yellow sun, and even the entire Milky Way. But a wormhole? That’s a tall order. Sure, wormholes are only hypothetical so they’re at a disadvantage against black holes – which we’ve actually observed. However that might be the black hole’s only advantage. Where a black hole is like a kitchen sink with a drain to nowhere,… This story continues at The Next Web
