Garmin Vivoactive 4 review notes: I used the Garmin Vivoactive 4 for four days, running software version 3.40.The Garmin Vivoactive 4 review unit was paired with my Google Pixel 2 XL for the duration of this review. The Garmin Vivoactive 4 is the follow-up to Garmin’s super popular Vivoactive 3 and Vivoactive 3 Music fitness watches. It’s definitely more advanced than, say, the base model Vivomove 3 or Vivosmart 4, but also a notable step down from a more advanced watch like the Fenix 6 or the Forerunner 945.The main differences between the four product lines are that the Venu has an AMOLED display, the Legacy Saga series are Star Wars-themed watches, and the Legacy Hero series are based on Marvel’s Captain America and Captain Marvel. If you find yourself spending a lot of time outdoors on various activities, this is the device for you.
A University of Texas at Arlington team researching a groundbreaking treatment to accelerate the healing of cranial injuries has received significant funding support from the National Institutes of Health. The team, led by Venu Varanasi, is developing a method for live 3D printing of bone-forming scaffolds that can be grafted to cranial defects using regenerative antioxidant materials that support the body's natural healing processes. The approach could shorten the healing time for severe cranial injuries and make treatment more accessible and affordable to patients."While the study is anchored in materials and craniofacial healing, we're focused on understanding the pathophysiology of the traumatic injury process in order to mitigate and overcome barriers that can slow down or interfere with the bone healing," Varanasi said. The project has been in motion since he was at his previous institution, working in collaboration with Marco Brotto, the George W. and Hazel M. Jay Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, and Pranesh Aswath, professor of materials science and engineering, both of UTA.Varanasi said they bring essential expertise.
Huawei, Samsung, TCL, and Nokia might be the stars of IFA 2019 so far, but there have actually been a ton of smartwatch announcements at IFA this year. It’s a straightforward update to the Vivoactive 3/Music series. The Venu supports live, customizable watch faces, and can apparently last roughly five days on a single charge. The Garmin Legacy Hero GPS watches are also the exact same as the Vivoactive 4, only with designs themed around two of Marvel’s most popular characters: Captain America and Captain Marvel. The Captain Marvel model comes with a 40mm watch case and “Danvers blue” leather and silicone bands. The Kree insignia is printed on the lens, and Danvers’ famous challenge “Higher, further, faster.”
While Garmin might be known for powerful frumpy smartwatches, at IFA it’s launched some gorgeous wristables a fashionista wouldn’t be ashamed to wear.Until now, Garmin has favoured colour transflective screens, which offer better visibility in direct sunlight but aren’t much to look at.It also comes with lovely colourways – you can get it in black and gold, light sand and rose gold, granite blue with silver, and black and slate.Looks aside, the Venu is very much in line with Garmin’s Vivoactive series, which got a minor refresh at IFA.It also benefits from recent software updates from Garmin, including menstrual tracking and body recovery levels via a new feature called Pulse Ox.As for the battery, you get an estimated five days in smartwatch mode and up to six hours of continuous GPS and music.
We’re in the midst of IFA 2019, and Garmin decided to show up to the event with a slew of new wearables in hand.In all, Garmin is launching eight different smartwatches today, many of them with a number of variants to boot. These watches all seem to have the same core feature set centered around fitness, with one or two major differences to make them stand out in the lineup.Other fitness features include wrist-based heart rate, a collection of indoor and outdoor apps, Body Battery (which tracks energy levels), sleep monitoring Pulse OX for tracking oxygen saturation levels, respiration tracking, breathing exercises, abnormal heart rate alerts, and menstrual cycle tracking. It’s worth pointing out, however, that the battery in both the vivoactive 4 (45mm) and 4S (40mm) last longer than the one in the Venu.Next up we have the new watches in the vivomove series, which are aimed at folks who prefer the look of more traditional watches.
The Garmin Venu has just been announced at IFA 2019, packed with all the features you’d expect from a Garmin smartwatch, along with an AMOLED display. That second point is worthy of note as it’s the first Garmin smartwatch with an AMOLED screen, and that 1.2-inch display promises more vibrant visuals than is typical of the brand.Garmin also claims that the Venu has the broadest range of 24/7 health monitoring features available on the market. These include sleep and respiration tracking, abnormal heart rate alerts, stress tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, relaxation reminders, hydration tracking, and more. These are the best fitness trackersThe Garmin Venu also sports the brand’s Body Battery feature, allowing you to monitor your energy levels to help with planning when to work out and when to rest.
After announcing its Fenix 6 flagship GPS multi-sport watch with solar charging last week, Garmin is back with three more wearables for fitness fetishists.Notably, it’s launching a new Venu lineup of GPS watches with OLED displays to better compete with the Apple Watch.Venu is Garmin’s first GPS watch with a bright, colorful, and detailed OLED display.Venu is a watch meant to be worn 7/24, designed to alert you to important events while in the office, help you meet your fitness goals in the gym, pay for your groceries on the way home, and then track your sleep at night.Venu’s 1.2-inch OLED touchscreen plays host to live watch faces and dozens of animated workouts that demonstrate proper form and technique for activities such as strength training, cardio, yoga, and Pilates. It also features Garmin’s broad range of around-the-clock health monitoring features, including new hydration tracking, new respiration tracking, stress and menstrual cycle tracking, and pulse ox sleep tracking whereby the watch measures the oxygen saturation in your blood to determine how well you’re sleeping.
Garmin is readying six new smartwatches for release in the coming months according to a recent leak, and it's a range that is set to include the Vivoactive 4 and Vivomove Style. The leak comes from WinFuture, which has also included pictures of all six new products.According to the website's information, the six devices on the way include the Garmin Vivoactive 4, Vivoactive 4s, Vivomove Style, Vivomove 3s and Vivomove 3 Sport. There's also the new Garmin Venu, which seems to be a top-end watch that comes in a 43mm body and supports both Spotify and Deezer. It's set to come with activity tracking for runners, cyclists and swimmers with GPS on board, plus it will have Garmin Pay as well. We're uncertain if this watch will come to market with the Venu name though; there's always the possibility it will be called the Garmin Fenix 6 when it launches.
