Mark Madsen, the head coach of the Utah Valley men's basketball team, is in his second season.Madsen is a two-time NBA champion, a former head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, and a member of the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame.

In UVU's 16-year Division I history, he is just the third head men's basketball coach.

During the 2019-20 season, Madsen had a fruitful first year at UVU.His team won 11 games despite injuries and hardship, including a 68-62 victory over North Dakota State, which ended the season 13-1 at home, won the Summit League, and was on its way to the NCAA Tournament.

During the 2019-20 season, UVU was the only team to beat the Bison at home.

During the 2019-20 season, the Wolverines were tough on the track, winning at North Dakota State, UAB, Wyoming, and Grand Canyon.Madsen's 2019-20 team became the first to sweep Grand Canyon since the 2013-14 WAC Championship UVU team, winning 73-69 at GCU and 92-80 at home.
