The concert film originated from Spike Lee’s vision of the 2019 Broadway show from Talking Heads star man which had earned massive accolades.
American Utopia was a colossal hit from October 2019 to February 2020 at Hudson Theatre, but now subscribers of HBO and HBO Max from all around the world have a chance to experience the concert film on October the 17th.In this remarkable musical world formed by Byrne’s imagination, eleven musical artists from around the world will perform Byrne’s greatest hits that include songs from 2018 album as well as classics such as “This Must Be the Place” and “Everybody’s Coming to My House.”Janelle Monae’s “Hell You Talmbout” will also be performed in concert.The concert is not just about David Byrne, singing and dancing but the content of the show goes a level deeper and tries to send a message about equality, value for emotions, human values, hope, and security.The concert will also feature David Byrne’s short monologues in which he highlights current socio-political climate and raises questions over police brutality, voter turnout, climate changes and immigration.
With his monologues, Byrne pitches the idea of change not just in the world outside but in our souls as well.The concert which was played at Hudson Theater earned high praise from the critics as well as the audience.
Variety was head over heels about the concert as it calls it “artistically stunning” and “surprisingly political tour de force.”The New York Times also termed the concert as “cosmically cozy senior statesman.”Annie-B Parson choreographs the show which is bursting with exuberance.
