Yes, the 2020 Ford Explorer and the 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility were both unveiled at the same time.Instead of plucking Explorers from the line to convert to police cars, the Ford Police Interceptor Utility is treated like a separate vehicle.Hell, there's even 160 extra pounds of metal in the back to withstand 75-mile-per-hour collisions.Sandwiched in Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission is a 44-horsepower electric motor that combines with a 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V6 for a net 318 hp and 322 pound-feet of torque. In addition to learning a little bit more about Ford's upcoming hybrid tech (including the aforementioned Modular Hybrid Technology), the automaker this week offered me two quick laps behind the wheel of the new Police Interceptor Utility hybrid SUV.The course consisted of a couple straights, a couple sharp turns and a longer left turn.

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe will arrive in the US this fall, with base, S and Turbo versions initially available at launch. But in typical Porsche fashion, more variants will be offered in the not-too-distant future, the next of which will be a Cayenne Coupe E-Hybrid."You can expect a hybrid version," a Porsche executive told Roadshow during a media event for the Cayenne Coupe in Austria on Saturday. It's unclear exactly when this model will launch, but it's safe to assume it will follow the other three gasoline-only variants. It's also safe to assume the Coupe E-Hybrid will share its powertrain with the standard, electrified Cayenne. That means we can expect a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 paired with a 14.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and electric motor, for a total system output of 455 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

We at Roadshow have been pumped for the Rivian R1T electric truck since we saw it in the metal at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show and now we're even more excited because Rivian has turned it into an overland camping rig for Overland West in Arizona. The R1T made its Overland West debut on Friday as the first electric vehicle to be shown there, and it is a little different from the vehicle we saw in LA.Instead of merely having a pass-through tunnel behind the cab, Rivian has installed a brilliant-looking cooking station that slides out and is packing a custom electric camp stove. To keep the overland theme going, Rivian bolted a rack to the bed of the R1T and tossed a tent on it.It's not something we'd trust on the African savannah, for example, but for a leisurely trip through the woods of California's Sierra Nevada, it looks perfect. As for the rest of the R1T's particulars, it's powered by four electric motors and promises to deliver 400 miles of range while producing around 750 horsepower.

There's some exciting news for performance-car fans in Europe: Ford today revealed the Focus ST wagon, a more spacious version of the newest Focus ST hot hatchback. For our US readers, though, there's some expected bad news: with Ford no longer selling the Focus Stateside, the chances of this car reaching our shores are nill.Still, the new Ford Focus ST wagon looks to be quite the exciting proposition for drivers who need to balance sportiness with sensibility. The car comes with a 2.3-liter turbo-four engine -- that's up from the outgoing Focus ST's 2.0-liter -- with 276 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. That engine mates either to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic, the former with automatic rev-matching.While no numbers have been released for the wagon, Ford says the standard Focus ST hatchback gets to 62 miles per hour in under 6 seconds.
Both models use the same new 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission that has a mechanical differential lock on the front axle. Both cars all have the ALL4 all-wheel-drive system. Both JCW cars have specially engineered chassis with additional reinforcement modifications for the body structure, engine connection, and chassis fastenings.Power for both comes from a 4-cylinder TwinPower turbo engine that makes 331 pound-feet of torque and 301 horsepower.Mini says that the Clubman can reach 62 mph in 4.9 seconds.Mini uses cooling technology that was devised on the race track to keep the car cool under hard use.
When the GT350 debuted for the 2016 model year, the centerpiece of the new Shelby was undoubtedly Ford’s new 5.2-liter Voodoo V8.High revving and full of character, the 526 horsepower naturally aspirated mill was a great match for a Mustang designed with track prowess in mind. But while the limited production GT350R showed just how capable the sixth generation Mustang’s platform could be when dialed in for serious road course performance, the gap between it and the standard GT350 proved to be more sizable than the spec sheet initially suggested, as the latter’s more conservative tire and suspension package, in particular, made the standard Shelby feel more like a garden-variety GT with an engine swap rather than a legitimate track weapon. That discrepancy became even more glaring last year with the introduction of Performance Pack 2, an options package that bestowed the GT with more aggressive handling hardware than the 2018 Shelby GT350 was equipped with.Is the new Shelby worth the price of admission?Whether that’s good or bad is largely subjective, but this author considers it a win.
McLaren is one of the elite players in the exclusive high-end supercar game. However, in a departure from what McLaren is most famous for, on May 15 the British automaker unveiled the McLaren GT, its first-ever grand tourer (GT) model.Well, grand tourers are high-end street cars intended to go quickly and comfortably over vast distances and extended periods of time.In the McLaren lineup, the GT belongs in its own category away from the other existing McLaren series: Sports (the 600 and 570), Super (720) and Ultimate (Senna and Speedtail). The closest McLaren ever came to a GT before was the aforementioned Speedtail, a three-seater the brand billed as a “hyper grand tourer” capable of 1,035 horsepower and 250 miles per hour.In comparison, the McLaren GT’s 4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 and seven-speed transmission are responsible for 465 pound-foot of torque, a top speed of 203 mph, and the capability of hitting 124 mph in 9 seconds flat.

Texas-based Hennessey Specialty Vehicles has some more news on its wild 1,600-horsepower Venom F5 supercar. The company announced Wednesday that it has begun building the first Venom F5, with a prototype scheduled to start testing before the end of 2019.Hennessey also gave us our first glimpse at a possible Roadster version of the car.The Venom F5, you might recall, debuted back in 2017 with the goal of cracking the 300-miles-per-hour barrier.Hennessey, also known for tuning other manufacturers' cars to produce ludicrous amounts of horsepower, said the car would have a twin-turbo V8 engine good for 1,600 hp.Acceleration stats were impressive, too, with 0 to 186 mph promised to take less than 10 seconds.
Of all the cars it's produced in recent years, McLaren says the 570GT has been one of its biggest successes. The car is outperforming the company's initial sales projections, and customers have been asking for a followup that offers more space and more comfort in a package that's more distinct.Enter the new McLaren GT -- the simply and succinctly named grand tourer that slots somewhere between the 570GT and 720S in the company's supercar lineup. As you can see in the accompanying photos and video, this isn't just some GT-ified derivative of McLaren's 570-, 600- or 720-badged models."We didn't want a derivative of something that already existed," Ian Digman, McLaren's global head of product management, told me during a backgrounder for the new GT in Los Angeles, California, last month. And while you can certainly find links to McLaren's other cars in the GT, dig a bit deeper and you'll see how different it really is.

McLaren has revealed its new grand tourer, the 2020 McLaren GT, but if you were expecting a sedate highway cruiser this is a 612 horsepower reminder that the automaker doesn’t do slow. The latest addition to the British sports car-maker’s growing range, the McLaren GT promises to combine speed and driver engagement with the sort of comfort you’d demand were you eschewing the private jet and opting to drive across the country instead.Unlike McLaren’s existing cars, it doesn’t fall into any of the three current categories.Rather than being a Sports, Super, or Ultimate Series vehicle, the 2020 GT stands alone.Whether that eventually mean the expansion into a fourth category, McLaren is so far only teasing about – it’ll likely depend on just how well the GT is received. That means space for a golf bag or two pairs of 185cm skis, along with other bags.
In addition to a 15-inch primary display, the machine comes with a petite 6-inch 1080p touchscreen panel located just slightly above the keyboard.I’m not much of a PC gamer (although I am partial to the occasional bit of Civilization), but I am a software developer by training, and something like the HP Omen X 2S is extremely attractive to me.This would allow me to quickly glance at code samples and method explanations, all without having to break my concentration by switching tabs.Similarly, tech workers with grueling travel schedules could find it helps them be productive, as they churn out lines of code from the desk of a dismal airport hotel.Another thing that makes the HP Omen X 2S attractive to code-monkeys is the fact that it’s undeniably powerful. You’d expect that from any gaming machine worth its salt.

The BMW-owned firm is keeping this tradition going by releasing John Cooper Works-badged variants of its Clubman and Countryman models. Both earn the honor of being the most powerful models the firm has ever released in its 60-year history. While they compete in different segments of the market, the Clubman (pictured above) and the Countryman (pictured below) are nearly identical on paper. Both are powered by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that channels 301 horsepower and a stout 331 pound-feet of torque to the four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed manual transmission available previously is gone, likely due to a lack of demand from buyers.Mini quotes zero-to-60-mph times of 4.9 and 5.1 seconds for the Clubman and the Countryman, respectively.

John Cooper Works versions of Mini cars are always feisty, powerful things, but now the Countryman and Clubman JCW are getting even spicier. In both cars, a new turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four produces 306 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. That's a huge increase over the 228 hp and 258 lb-ft offered in the outgoing models, and Mini says it's enough to get the John Cooper Works Clubman to 62 miles per hour in 4.9 seconds, while the Countryman does the deed in 5.1 seconds. Both cars are limited to 155 mph.Compared to the prior JCW 2.0-liter, Mini says this new engine has a tougher crankshaft, new pistons that drop the compression ratio from 10.2:1 to 9.5:1 and a bigger turbocharger, among other modifications.Power is nothing without control, and to that end the John Cooper Works cars have an upgraded All4 all-wheel-drive system with tougher gears and shafts.
When the 2020 Toyota Supra goes on sale this summer, it will mark the first time the legendary sports car has been in US showrooms since the 1998 model year. Its return continues the resurgence of Japanese performance cars like the Acura NSX, Honda Civic Type R, Nissan 370Z, Nissan GT-R and Subaru BRZ.And after officially debuting earlier this year at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, we've finally gotten to drive the new Supra on road and track. The FT-1 concept that Toyota uncovered a few years back served as a fantastic foundation to what the next-generation car would ultimately become. With an inline six-cylinder engine and plenty of styling inspiration from the fourth-generation model, the new Supra has some familiar traits.A 2.6-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 110 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque powered the Celica Supra.
Bendy screens are a hot topic right now, given Samsung’s folding phone, and cool prototypes like Lenovo’s flexible screen laptop, but HP’s Omen X 2S laptop is taking a different approach to packing more display into a device.Instead of one big screen that doubles as a touchpad and keyboard, the Omen X 2S will put a phone size display directly above the keyboard.Looking at it you might be reminded of Razer’s prototype from CES 2018 that let the Razer Phone double as a touchpad and second display in a laptop chassis. Both of those had the display doing double duty as the touchpad. The Omen X 2S gives you a dedicated touchpad in the same area where you typically find a number pad on a 15-inch laptop. The little 6-inch 1080p display is intended to work sort of like the second screen on a Nintendo DS.
HP has refreshed its line of Omen gaming laptops with some exciting new entries, the most intriguing of which is the Omen X 2S 15 which comes packing high-end hardware, a CPU pasted with liquid metal, and an entire second screen installed in its base for chat and minimap functions. It’s a striking design for its use of its second screen, which is six inches diagonally and runs at a 1080p resolution. It supports touch and HP posits that it will be great for gamers or streamers who want a chat box within reach at all times without clouding the main gaming screen. Its base configuration starts at $2,099 and comes with an Intel Core i7-9750H CPU, 16GB of RAM, an RTX 2070 8GB graphics chip, and a 256GB SSD.There are also options to switch out the CPU for a Core i9-9880H, double the memory to 32GB, increase storage up to 2TB of SSD space, and provide an improved GPU in the form of an Nvidia RTX 2080 8GB.Both support G-Sync to kill off-screen tearing for good.

At this point, gaming laptops are mostly a known quantity.HP turned that whole concept on its head today by introducing the Omen X 2S, a new gaming laptop with dual displays as its primary selling point. We’ve seen companies attempt to shake up display tech on gaming laptops before, but HP’s approach seems to be pretty clever. The 1080p IPS secondary display is positioned above the keyboard, but since it clocks in at 6 inches diagonally, you probably won’t use it for gaming.Instead, HP envisions scenarios where you use the second screen to display things like Discord, Twitch chat, or Spotify while you’re in-game.By putting those programs on the secondary touch display, you won’t need to alt-tab out of your game as you’re playing to see them.
