Let’s know about the variant festivals of India in brief:  Northern India: If we head to northern areas, festivals such as Sindhu darshan in Kashmir; melas, fairs in Rajasthan, Baisakhi, Guru Parab, Lohri festivals: in Punjab, the most famous ‘Lathmar Holi’, Ganga Pujan, Ramnavmi: in UP and many more are the major.

Other attractions include Rath Yatra in Jagannath Puri, Buddh Purnima, etc.

Pongal festival in Tamil Nadu, Onam and Thrissur Puram in Kerala, Hampi, Ugadi, and Karaga Utsav in Karnataka, Dasara, Mahamaham, etc.

4.Western India: “When put together,They form a melody,When sung together,Miracally changes the weather...Dancing on the beats,Expression through actions,Depicting the story,Create the forms of glory...” Dance and music are prioritized as the major part of festivals in the western parts of India.

When the beautifully composed melodies along with the thump of drums and other instruments, the expression dancers, the enthusiastic people, the cheering voices, the sound of crackers, the brightness of lightings, and the blossoms of flowers; all build a perfect definition of any ‘Festival’ in Western Regions.

Our elders say, when the world lies in the dark with all the evil and turmoil around, then arises a mighty god to destroy all these strives and rule the universe by giving the boons to the human beings, such is the avatars of goddess Lakshmi or ever per say, the avatar of Vishnu Murthy.

Even Lord Krishna emerged for the same cause to remove the evil acts done by king kansa and protect the earth with compassion and love.Janmashtami or as we call Shree Krishna Janmashtami or Gokul Ashtami is an auspicious day when Krishna Bhagavan took his birth on this planet earth.

This is the festival where every Indian family celebrates with great pomp and show in the month of Shravan that falls in August or September, as per Hindu festival it is celebrated on the day of krishna paksh or Ashtami.In many mythological books, we find Krishna as a blue-black skin coloured boy who performs childish acts by stealing butter from the houses of gopikas in Vrindavan.

Dahi handi is a major celebration where a team of young boys and girls try to reach the pot and break it, while others in the neighbourhood try to cheer, encourage and tease them up.

They even splash colour water, sing and dance to the beats by creating a festive atmosphere wonderfully.

Even the cash prizes were distributed to the team or persons who won this.

On this day everyone celebrates their friendships with gifts such as friendship bands, rings, or other presents that emphasize the importance of a friend in their lives.August 10, Islamic New Year.Also known as Hijri New Year, the Islamic new year is celebrated on the first day of the month of Muharram which marks the beginning of the new Islamic calendar.

The Islamic lunar year consists of 354 days divided into 12 months and Muharram is the first month in the Muslim calendar, also considered as a sacred month.

On this day people are generally involved in religious acts of worship, prayers, and recitations reflecting upon time and their life.August 11, Hariyali Teej.On this day, women worship the moon by fasting and celebrate the festival by singing and dancing to traditional songs.

It is also known as Choti Teej or Shravan Teej as it falls in the Shravana month of the Hindu calendar.August 12, Athachamayam.Athachamayam is a cultural festival that marks the beginning of Onam.

Processions are carried to represent the King of Kochi and his entourage, to commemorate the King’s victory.

Women usually celebrate this day by offering milk and praying to serpent gods for the safety and health of their families.
