Tinder parent company Match Group has just become the latest high-profile software maker to stiff Google on its 30 percent fee for all Android transactions through the Play Store. To avoid paying the company on in-app purchases of subscriptions to services like Tinder Gold and Tinder Plus, Match Group will now encourage users to enter credit card details directly into Tinder’s systems, according to Bloomberg, citing new research by Macquarie analyst Ben Schachter. The move is similar to one made by popular video game developer Epic Games, which last year released the Android version of battle royale hit Fortnite via its own downloadable launcher to avoid the 30 percent cut.Notably, Tinder is Match Group’s most profitable entity, and between its subscription services and other in-app purchase options like paying for the ability to know when someone has read your message, the software is often one of the highest grossing free apps on both iOS and Android.“We will always try to provide options that benefit their experience and offering payment options is one example of this.” After inputting your credit card info directly onto Tinder’s servers, the app supposedly defaults to that payment method for any in-app purchase in the future, allowing Tinder to bypass the cut indefinitely.Epic and Match may be the only two high-profile companies to thus far openly bypass the Play Store while still trying to cater to Android users.
TU Dresden is one of a total of 11 Universities of Excellence in Germany and the only University of Excellence in the eastern German federal states (except Berlin). In response, the Rector, Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen, emphasised the importance of this title for the strategic development of the university: "We have been funded as a University of Excellence for seven years and, thanks to the measures realised with this support, we have managed to join the ranks of Germany's top universities. For example, we have used that funding to attract top national and international scientists to TU Dresden, optimise our structures and processes, and intensify cooperations with non-university research institutions within the DRESDEN-concept alliance. Our new strategy for the coming years until 2028 was based on these achievements and convinced the reviewers of our merits and potential.I would like to thank everyone involved in the preparation of the proposal and in the participation of the on-site assessment!"The following five points are of crucial importance:

Unnecessary irrigation wastes huge amounts of water - some crops are watered twice as much as they need - and contributes to the pollution of aquifers, lakes and oceans.A predictive model combining information about plant physiology, real-time soil conditions and weather forecasts can help make more informed decisions about when and how much to irrigate. This could save 40 percent of the water consumed by more traditional methods, according to new Cornell University research."If you have a framework to connect all these excellent sources of big data and machine learning, we can make agriculture smart," said Fengqi You, energy systems engineering professor. You is the senior author of "Robust Model Predictive Control of Irrigation Systems With Active Uncertainty Learning and Data Analytics," which published in IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology. The paper was co-authored with Abraham Stroock, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, who is working on water conservation strategies with apple farmers in New York state and almond, apple and grape growers in drought-ridden regions of the West Coast.

The Superconductivity Research Center of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI, President Gyu-ha Choe) under the Ministry of Science and ICT has developed a superconducting insulation technology that can significantly reduce the size and weight of medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment. While many hospitals, both domestic and international, face many difficulties in facility management due to the large size and heavy weight of MRI equipment, the development of this technology, led by the team of Dr. Seog-Whan Kim and Dr. Young-Sik Jo of the Superconductivity Research Center, is expected to receive much attention.MRI transmits a high frequency magnetic field of thousands of hertz to the human body, and displays the image signals generated from atomic nuclei in the body in a 2D or 3D cross-sectional image.Resolution is the most important thing for an accurate MRI diagnosis, and a stronger magnetic field results in better quality. Most existing MRIs use a superconducting electromagnet to create a powerful magnetic field.Superconductivity is the phenomenon where metal or a compound is cooled below a certain temperature has almost no resistance to current flow.

Developed eco-friendly, low-cost, and high-efficiency wastewater processing catalyst made from agricultural byproduct, and High efficiency and removal rate achieved through application of ultrasound stimulation, leading to high expectation for the development of an environmental hormone removal systemThe research team of Dr. Jae-woo Choi and Dr. Kyung-won Jung of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology's (KIST, president: Byung-gwon Lee) Water Cycle Research Center announced that it has developed a wastewater treatment process that uses a common agricultural byproduct to effectively remove pollutants and environmental hormones, which are known to be endocrine disruptors. The sewage and wastewater that are inevitably produced at any industrial worksite often contain large quantities of pollutants and environmental hormones (endocrine disruptors).Because environmental hormones do not break down easily, they can have a significant negative effect on not only the environment but also the human body.To prevent this, a means of removing environmental hormones is required.Because high efficiency is difficult to achieve given the conditions, the biggest disadvantage of the existing process is the high cost involved.

Coffee has been the subject of dozens of studies, some focusing on its health benefits, others on its potential health risks.Though we know the polyphenols found in coffee help promote good health, there’s no clear word on whether coffee is a health risk if consumed frequently. As with herbal teas, coffee beans contain polyphenols that confer a number of health benefits, but some studies have found that drinking too much coffee comes with some risks. These studies often revolve around the caffeine in coffee and the increase in blood pressure that can result from consuming too much of the stimulant.Others have pointed toward potential carcinogens resulting from the bean roasting process. In that case, drinking more than half a dozen cups of coffee daily was linked to a 22-percent increase in one’s risk of developing heart disease.

It suggests the products are cost-effective and environmentally friendly compared to tampons and pads, while still being safe and able to provide roughly the same level of protection against leakage. The concept of the cup, which is inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual blood, has existed since at least the 1930s.It’s only lately, thanks partly to new brand-name products like the Diva Cup, that they’ve seen a spike in popularity. The authors of the study, published in the Lancet on Tuesday, reviewed the relatively little amount of medical literature there is surrounding menstrual cups. They looked at 43 studies involving just over 3,300 women living in both developing and developed countries, dating as far back as the 1960s.“Menstrual cups seem to be an effective and safe alternative to other menstrual products,” the authors write.

Humans have been getting tattoos since ancient days, but modern science is giving them a new purpose: health condition monitoring.Researchers have detailed a new type of permanent tattoo that changes color when certain health biomarkers in the body change, offering visual indicators that something is wrong and the patient needs to visit their doctor. The new diagnostic tool was developed by researchers in Germany and recently published as a study in the journal Angewandte Chemie.Though both appear similar when injected into the skin as a tattoo, the newly detailed health tattoo features a colorimetric analytic formulation instead of typical tattoo ink.Three colorimetric chemical sensors were adapted to produce different colors when certain biomarkers in the body changed. One ‘ink’ changes from yellow to blue when the body’s pH level changes from five to nine.

You might want some privacy when consuming porn online, whether that’s going in incognito mode, locking the door, putting in headphones, or all of the above. And while this certainly conceals your activity from a roommate or someone who might look at your search history, researchers have demonstrated that your intimate browsing time is an open book to companies like Facebook and Google.A study published on Monday by researchers from Microsoft Research, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pennsylvania explores how online porn activity is susceptible to being tracked by third-party websites, and the sensitive and supremely personal information attached to that activity. The researchers analysed 22,484 porn websites in March of last year and found that 93 percent of the pages leaked user data to a third party. The study also found that only 17 percent of the porn sites are encrypted, making user information especially vulnerable to hackers and bad actors. The dark truth is that your sexual data is still being tracked, and according to the study, it’s not just porn-specific sites interested in this data.
