A true sign of a comedic genius is indicated by their ability to improvise.
Therefore, it does not come as a great surprise that Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick & Morty, has often gone off the script to slip in a few gems here and there.
However, little did he know that his catchphrase “Wubba Lubba dub-dub” that Rick belts out at the end of Meeseeks and Destroy episode would catch on like fire!Soon enough the catchphrase was a recurring entity all through Season 1.
Rick often uses the phrase to express his happiness and even used it as a joke.
As nonsensical as it may have seemed without context, the Birdperson, in Ricky Business explained to Morty that in Bird language, the phrase actually translated to “I am in great pain, please help me.” Quite obviously, the translation added a darker twist to the show, which was already diving in complex human emotions.Nevertheless, Roiland’s ability to make up such a catchy catchphrase at a moment’s notice speaks volumes about his wit and humor.
It also gives the viewer insight into how much fun the show’s creators are having while filming the show.
