Working with clients in the technology training and IT fields often leads to some interesting conversations regarding technology trends and where they are headed over the next few years.

They are labor intensive, and need constant monitoring to balance overhead expenses as upgrades are rolled out.Effectively managing overhead costs is one of the most important processes that company needs to embrace if they want to remain competitive in an ever changing economic climate.

Any system that has less moving parts requires less maintenance and that means that IT staff sizes will reduce.

The need for IT desktop support will also diminish as the implementation of new software becomes seamless through cloud interfaces.

There are also the additional costs of continued help desk and desk-side support calls that will come from the end-users of the system regarding software issues or just general questions.

Mainly how it can be integrated into an existing infrastructure while maintaining security and deceasing maintenance costs.Additional cost savings could have been passed on to the Municipality by moving to a subscription based cloud model rather than the traditional licensing model.

Many thanks to Q Academy and Q College – Learn to Code family for bringing me on board as the newest guest blogger to join the blog roll.Every day I come across new time-saving techniques in the world of technology, and am itching to share them with the world.

My goal is to share a handful of posts each month – from quick tips and tricks and top 10 lists on general Microsoft topics to more detailed “how to” posts featuring new ways to use the tools in the Microsoft Office Suite focusing on Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Before we get started, I want to share part of my story of how I got here, and give some insight into where my passion for technology began.Who is Kelly? The Wonder YearsI was born in the early eighties on a humid afternoon in a suburban district in Toronto, Ontario.

My family swiftly moved half way around the world, to the location of my earliest childhood memory as a toddler sitting in my father’s office at the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates, learning my ABCs by playing rudimentary 8-bit pixelated digital flashcards.Despite using computers from an early age, as a kid, I was never a computer prodigy or whiz kid.

Glasses, retainer, questionable fashion sense, and an insatiable curiosity for the quirky mix of things that interested me – Lego, Pirates, detective stories, and ballet.

The results were pitiful much to my current chagrin, as webtools such as the Wayback Machine website could surface some painful skeletons from my past.

Notable eyesores include a baby blue themed tribute site to my favourite band as a pre-teen, Blink 182, and later, the slightly more credible, yet still rough around the edges, Canadian Underground, where local Victoria indie, punk, rock, and metal bands were featured and reviewed by my field reporter Joni Sandler.AdulthoodI dabbled in the Adobe Creative Suite during by BFA at the University of Victoria in the early 2000s, primarily using Photoshop CS3 for photo manipulation and Adobe Final Cut Pro for video editing as part of my Visual Arts degree.

Is it helping your child as much as you hope? You might have some idea of what Minecraft is if your children are playing and talking about it constantly.

But besides words like “Enderman” or “blocks” and a vague concept of zombies, what is Minecraft really about?

Survival mode also means you have to think about feeding your character and defeating the boss characters, the Ender Dragon and Wither.

There’s not a lot of guidance given to players in-game, therefore many players build forums and groups to trade tips or resources about Minecraft.

Your child will then learn social skills in a relatively safe environment (always be there to provide adult supervision) and be able to communicate with others even outside Minecraft.Refine Communication SkillsMinecraft also develops reading comprehension and writing skills.

This will help them learn about history and science should they do more research on what these materials or tools do or where they come from.

This year, global mobile apps are expected to reach 188.9 billion U.S. dollars in revenues.

Well-developed apps can perform functions much faster than any mobile site, so waiting time would be significantly cut.

In effect, users are more likely to make purchases and less likely to leave due to long loading times.Aside from that, mobile apps are able to store data and connect faster for payment methods.

Here are the ones that get the most sales.GamingMobile games make up 25 percent of all mobile apps, which is almost three times the number of business apps.

Candy Crush and Fortnite both earn over 1 million U.S. dollars everyday back in 2018, making them two of the top selling games at the time.Music and Video StreamingData show that younger generations are more likely to stream music and videos, but they are also twice as likely to be paid subscribers.

At the same time, they also bank on this frustration around ads by offering subscriptions that completely take away this inconvenience.Dating Tinder still managed to earn over 1.2 billion dollars in just a year despite being a free app.

Many people who are starting a small business are unfamiliar with business language and may use the words “revenue” and “profit” interchangeably.

It’s important that anyone who is starting a small business or even a non-profit agency learns the difference between the two sooner rather than later.

Let’s look closely at revenue and profit, as well as how they differ.First, let’s examine what “revenue” truly means.

Simply put, revenue is the amount of money earned before the total operating expenses are subtracted.

Business owners are not able to pocket 100% of their revenue because they have expenses associated with running their businesses. Now, let’s look at profits.

Examples of such expenses are as follows: marketing, advertising, utilities, cost of goods sold, staff salaries, website maintenance, research and development, office supplies and administration. Therefore, $ 100,000 in revenue only tells you a very small part of the story.

As the world of technology continues to evolve so must the need for businesses to continue to leverage new platforms to stay competitive.

That was a sentence that I wrote in a past article when I was writing about leveraging Facebook and Twitter to help companies build their brand because those were platforms where potential customers were waiting for them.

What does that mean for people trying to sell products and services…it means that the way that people are influenced to make buying decisions must evolve too.Instagram’s tagline is “Capture and Share the World’s Moments”.

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, and social networking application that provides end-users with the ability to take photos and videos, and then share them either publicly or privately on the app.

Here is a link to a great YouTube video that explains InstagramSo what does Instagram mean to a business?

As a society we love to put faces to names, and Instagram provides a perfect platform to do that.

So many people dream of a career in a creative industry, but far less people actually do something about it.

For many people, becoming a Graphic Designer seems to be a job that dreams are made of – flexible, fun and positively overflowing with creativity, so they think to themselves, how could this possibly lead to a lucrative career? Each and everyday Graphic Designers are sought out by companies, large and small, for print and web design.

Graphic Designers have always been in demand but as we enter the era of Digital Marketing and Social Media, we are seeing this demand grow greater.

If you look around, visual design is everywhere from digital media, to bus signs, logo design, package design, traffic signs, magazine layouts, web ads and the list goes on!Freelancing Graphic Designers have always been hired out by companies to do work, but now we are seeing more and more companies hiring their own “in-house designers”, which is great for people who are looking to earn a steady, guaranteed income.Whether you’re new to the world of design, a blogger, small business owner or someone that would like to work as a professional print or web designer, the fundamentals of Graphic Design are all the same.

These fundamentals are the foundation and building blocks for any professional creative person. The Q College – Graphics Design and Branding Fundamentals Certificate Program offers these building blocks with our experienced instructors who actively work in the field when they’re not teaching.

Their knowledge, leadership and patience with the students goes above and beyond and the small class sizes make this possible.
