LIVER DISEASES The liver is the largest organ in the body. It helps digest food, remove poisons, and store energy. There are several different kinds of liver diseases. Viruses are the cause of some of them, such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Others diseases can result from drug use, poisons, or too much alcohol. When the liver forms scar tissue due to an illness, it is called cirrhosis. Jaundice, which is a yellowing of the skin, can be a sign of liver disease.
