Why are breathing treatments used?A GP may recommend breathing treatments due to the following conditions:Anaphylaxis: an acute, potentially life-threatening, allergic reaction that causes swelling of the tongue, shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, vomiting, upper airway obstruction and low blood pressure.Lung infection: a chest infection - caused by a virus or bacteria - that affects the lungs, in the bronchis or in the air sacs.
