With its shares at a near five-year low, the Hong Kong-listed company is also looking at the possibility of a listing back in China, adding to the growing number of Chinese companies heading back home as restrictions on capital flows to and from China create strong demand for locally-listed stocks.Mainland firms have long been attracted to Hong Kong's standing as a global financial hub, stable legal regime and large pool of investors but the downside is that share prices can be higher in China. It said profits were pulled down by costs incurred following its acquisitions in 2014 of the Motorola phones business from Google and the low-end server arm of International Business Machines Corp ."These results show integration efforts did not meet expectations," Chief Executive Yang Yuanqing said in a Hong Kong Stock Exchange statement, pointing to an 85 percent decline in phone shipments in China. We are the top among Chinese handset companies," he said, although he added that better integration was needed going forward to improve products and operating efficiencies.Cuts in handset subsidies by local network providers and sluggish demand in emerging markets contributed to Lenovo's global smartphone shipments falling 32 percent to 11.5 million in the first three months of 2016 from the same period last year, according to data from researcher TrendForce.
Two thirds of them will go on to live life on or below the poverty line, having left school ill equipped to work and will live a life marred by unemployment and loneliness. As well as offering and promoting emotional support to children and their families, we're increasingly looking at ways in which technology can positively influence the life chances of a vision impaired child. It is set to become the global benchmark for using mobile devices for audio navigation. Its quite a coup for our Youth Forum to have been involved in the foundations of this global revolution, which will have such an impact on their lives, and the lives of their peers. In the same way that Wayfindr aims to take the stress out of travel, we want to see existing and emerging technologies giving vision impaired children a profoundly improved experience at school. We will continue in our quest to collaborate with the best innovators and designers that want to help us translate ideas into better futures for young vision impaired people.

VeggiDome is the brainchild of Duncan Burns, who was always looking for interesting ways to help his kids eat more healthy. That s where the VegiDome concept sprang from.Digital Trends spoke to Eddie Haddad, co-founder and CMO of VeggiDome, to get some insight on what the company s goals are.Burns noticed the effectiveness of keeping vegetables covered by a glass dome 12 years ago, but said, It was only about two years ago that Duncan discovered the advantage of the dome portion to have a lid for easy access, said Haddad, essentially making it a vegetable cookie jar. Then we will continue to build the VeggiDome brand and move our way into department stores, e-commerce storefronts, infomercials/QVC, etc. There will likely be copycat products that will try and steal some of the VeggiDome s thunder, but for Haddad we just want to spread the wealth of healthy and sustainable living with the rest of the world.

Twitter has confirmed plans to stop counting media attachments and @usernames in replies against a tweet s 140-character limit. It means more room for text and conversation in each tweet and less frustration for everyone who s been forced to edit their words in order to fit them inside Twitter s constraints.Twitter is making it easier for users to share media in tweets while still being able to comment on what s being shared. This will also apply to Sponsored Tweets, giving advertisers more room to tell their story or pitch their products and services with both text and media. That s how Twitter worked many years ago, and this change ends one of the service s most confusing usability/visibility issues.Today s announcement says one reason for the slow rollout is to give developers time to adjust and update their products to take advantage of these changes.
Practice makes perfect. But for a collaborative sport like ping pong, it s not always easy to find the perfect partner.Brothers, Alexander and Harrison Chen, solved this problem by building the Trainerbot. This ping pong robot works in tandem with a smart phone app and allows users to create their own custom shots by choosing the speed, direction, and spin with which the Trainerbot shoots balls.Every summer and winter break, the two brothers would team up to create prototypes until they came up with the 1.2 kilogram, 16 by 32 centimeter Trainerbot.Trainerbot is currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter.
But without them, you re not going to be able to get much use out of your iPhone or any other gadget that you use to get online.Semiconductors are, in a way, a niche industry, and within that niche, there are even more niches.Still, these are names that are not in public eye as much as, say, Facebook, Netflix or Amazon. But investors who have bought Nvidia or Applied Materials shares this year might just be shouting those names from their local rooftops.Based on those performances, Nvidia and Applied Materials are the two best-performing tech stocks included on the S 500 Index. Those gains are likely helped by how both companies have built up their niches of the chip sector. Its products are used in high-end cloud-based devices from the likes of IBM, and it is also helping to power virtual-reality technologies used to simulate a trip to Mars.Nvidia has seen the results of its newer initiatives in its quarterly performance. On May 1, Nvidia reported a fiscal first-quarter profit of $196 million,or 33 cents a share, on $1.31 billion, up from earnings of $134 million, or 33 cents a share, on $1.15 billion in sales in last-year s first quarter.Applied Materials, meanwhile, has benefited from the growth in consumer demand for everything from OLED displays used in phones and TVs, to 3D NAND memory chip technology. When the company reported its fiscal second-quarter results on May 19, earnings rose to $320 million, or 29 cents a share, on $2.45 billion in sales, compared with earnings of $364 million, or 29 cents a share, on revenue of $2.44 billion in the same period a year ago.But it was new orders that showed the company is on the right track.
Researchers find that regular selfie-takers overestimate their attractiveness iStockSelfies have become a ubiquitous part of modern culture, making it near impossible to go online without encountering a couple of photos used as a means of self-expression.According to a recent study, researchers at the University of Toronto found that people who take regular selfies are more likely to overestimate how attractive and likeable they are.Headed by Daniel Re from the University of Toronto, a team of researchers studied 198 college students, which included 100 participants who were regular selfie-takers, while the rest were not that fond of taking selfies. The regulars were rated as looking "significantly more narcissistic" than the non-selfie takers as well.Regular selfies increases one's susceptibility to "self-favouring bias", causing a person to increasingly overestimate the attractiveness of their self-focused photos over time, researchers said.Regularly receiving positive feedback on social media for the photos posted may also amplify one's inflated view of their own attractiveness and sense of self as well.
Neither flash nor html5 is supported!Few Silicon Valley entrepreneurs or activists are more committed to hiring more women and minorities in tech than Freada Kapor Klein.Companies that focus on diversity will succeed, she says, because hiring women and minorities makes business sense. While Kapor Klein is hopeful about Silicon Valley solving its woman problem, she s less optimistic about the Presidential election. It s frustrating at best , Kapor Klein says, with diplomatic restraint, about the sexist tenor of the election. As always, many thanks to the folks at CALinnovates for their help in the production of this interview.
So now, the executive is asking shareholders to give the green light to a plan that would allow him to actually be rid of those 7 million shares. The hope, ostensibly, would be to boost company morale at a time when Twitter doesn t appear to be faring particularly well.Indeed, Dorsey has had a rough go of things since he resumed his position at the company s helm last October.Dorsey seems to hope that as long as he can keep his employee base satisfied, Wall Street may follow suit.Back in October, when Dorsey first made his pledge, he tweeted, I d rather have a smaller part of something big than a bigger part of something small. And it looks like Dorsey is still trying to keep that dream alive.
