Sometimes, steel bushings will be split.
These sorts of bushings, which are also called tension bushings, spring bushings, or split steel bushings, are designed to withstand high-loads in low-speed operations.
They can endure very harsh environments and require low / no lubrication.
As with normal sleeve bushings, split steel bushings are hollow cylinders with a full-length slot that is often longitudinal.
They can be utilised in a variety of different capacities, but it would be one in which the compression and expansion allowed by the slot would be necessary.
The split allows this sort of bushing to be very easily inserted, installed, or replaced, and they can be pre-lubricated or self-lubricating.
