Sometimes, steel bushings will be split.

These sorts of bushings, which are also called tension bushings, spring bushings, or split steel bushings, are designed to withstand high-loads in low-speed operations.

They can endure very harsh environments and require low / no lubrication.

As with normal sleeve bushings, split steel bushings  are hollow cylinders with a full-length slot that is often longitudinal.

They can be utilised in a variety of different capacities, but it would be one in which the compression and expansion allowed by the slot would be necessary.

The split allows this sort of bushing to be very easily inserted, installed, or replaced, and they can be pre-lubricated or self-lubricating.

The first — and only — total lunar eclipse of 2019 is happening on Sunday, January 20th, and those who live in North and South America will have a front row seat to the whole bloody show.

That’s because the sunlight has been scattered.

The light creeping around the sides of our planet is passing through a lot of atmosphere, and all of the molecules in our air cause certain types of light to, well, scatter.

But this effect is more pronounced for light on the blue end of the spectrum, which has much shorter wavelengths.

Indigenous tribes in North America used to keep track of the seasons by observing the full Moons, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, so they would give these events names.

Of course, “Super Blood Wolf Moon” is a bit of a mouthful to say, so feel free to stick with “lunar eclipse.”

The amber eyes in the image above belong to Manno, who was trafficked from Africa to Syria before being rescued.

A year-long BBC investigation into the brutal smuggling of chimpanzees found that as pets in wealthy homes or as performers in commercial zoos, baby chimps can command a price tag of $12,500, a little under £10,000.

The idea came to conservationist Alexandra Russo when she was investigating online ape trafficking and sifting through posts on Instagram and Facebook for evidence of chimpanzees being offered for sale.

"It is important to get images of each individual in different positions, facial expressions, in altered lighting, and with the head tilted at a different angle," explains Alexandra.

In each of these pictures, a box is drawn around the chimp's face and then matched with existing images in the ever expanding photo database.

"They send us images of known named apes so we can build the individual recognition algorithm, but the fact that chimpanzee faces are so close to human faces creates a harder technical challenge," Dr McCormick says.
