Last week there were widespread reports that the AMD Radeon RX 480, the company's new Polaris-based graphics card, suffered from power draw issues.Specifically, the card would draw more power from the PCIe graphics slot than the specificiation allows, which could cause damage to motherboard components down the track. As promised, AMD has released a driver update to address the problem.Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 is now available, and offers two solutions to the RX 480's power draw: either shift the excess power draw to the PCIe power connector, or limit the total power consumption of the card.AMD's primary solution is to shift the power draw to the 6-pin connector, although this does cause the connector to draw more power than its specification allows. However, unlike with the graphics slot on most motherboards, power supplies tend to be very tolerant of PCIe power connectors drawing more power than typically allowed.
Sony is losing one of its top executive faces.PlayStation third-party relations vice president Adam Boyes revealed he is exiting Sony Interactive Entertainment. He is returning to game development, which is where he started before joining Sony in April 2012.I ve made the super difficult decision to leave PlayStation,  Boyes announced in an appearance on the PlayStation Blogcast.I want to go make games again. That s the next chapter of Adam s story: Making games.Boyes admitted that leaving Sony was a tough choice, but returning to development marks a return to his roots.
The $200 Radeon RX 480 is a wonderful graphics card that launched with a troubling problem: It draws an excessive amount of power through your motherboard s PCI-E slot, as discovered in extensive testing by PC Perspective and Tom s Hardware. It shouldn t be a problem for most PCs, but systems with cheap or dirty motherboards could theoretically be damaged by the highly over-spec power draw, especially when overclocking. To AMD s credit, the company immediately owned up to the problem while downplaying its severity and threw engineers at developing a fix over the long holiday weekend.AMD just released Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1, which includes the promised fix for the Radeon RX 480 s power consumption. If you picked up a reference edition of the card, you ll want to download it immediately.Radeon Crimson 16.7.1 implements a change to how the Radeon RX 480 draws its power, shifting things around so it consumes extra juice via the 6-pin power connection rather than the PCI-E slot in your motherboard.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Comcast is going to add Netflix to its X1 set-top boxes in the latest deal to blur the lines separating cable TV from internet video services. The arrangement announced Tuesday signals an apparent truce between two companies that have been antagonistic toward each other in recent years as they publicly bickered how much each side should pay for delivering Netflix's video to Comcast's internet subscribers.Netflix also attacked Comcast's proposed $45 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable last year as a bad deal for consumers before the sales agreement was canceled in the face of regulatory opposition. In a joint statement Tuesday, Comcast and Netflix said further details of their alliance will be released later this year when Netflix becomes available on X1 boxes.File photo: The Netflix Apple TV app icon. It's likely that Comcast, the nation's largest cable-TV operator, will receive a cut of each new subscriber that signs up for Netflix's service through the X1.Netflix charges $8 to $12 per month, depending on the type of plan selected."We have much work to do before the service will be available," Comcast and Netflix said. This won't be the first time that Netflix will be available on cable-TV boxes, but it has the potential to significantly expand its reach at a time that its growth in the U.S. is slowing.
OnePlus has confirmed plans to increase the price of its flagship OnePlus 3 smartphone. The OnePlus 3 is set to rise from its current price of £309 to £329 as of July 11, 2016 – that's next Monday. The decision is in response to the fluctuating value of Sterling following the UK's decision to leave the European Union. While we've held off action for as long as we can, the sharp drop witnessed in the currency markets following the Brexit decision has forced us to re-evaluate the OnePlus 3's pricing in the UK at a time of significant demand.""Given the effects of the unstable market son our extremely thin margins, we're reluctantly going to have to make some small changes to our pricing structure for the OnePlus 3 .There's still time to pick up the device at the current price of £309.
Google and the U.K. s government health service have partnered to study whether computers can be trained to spot degenerative eye problems early enough to prevent blindness.Google DeepMind, the London-based artificial intelligence unit owned by Alphabet Inc., announced a research partnership today with the National Health Service to gain access to a million anonymous eye scans.DeepMind will use the data to train its computers to identify eye defects. The aim is to give doctors a digital tool that can read an eye-scan test and recognize problems faster.Earlier detection of eye disorders related to diabetes and age-related macular degeneration could allow doctors to prevent loss of vision in many people, according to a statement by DeepMind Tuesday announcing the project with the Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.Google acquired DeepMind in 2014 to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities.Co-founded by child chess prodigy Demis Hassabis, the firm specializes in machine learning, the increasingly important area of technology where algorithms allow computers to learn and figure things out on their own.DeepMind has taught computers how to defeat a champion of the complex strategy game Go and play Atari s classic 1970s video game "Space Invaders."Separately, DeepMind has announced the creation of a health care review board to scrutinize its work with the NHS.
Micron made a loss of $215m in its latest quarter, job losses are coming, and the Seagate eSSD partnership hasn t taken off.Its fiscal third 2016 quarter revenues were $2.9bn, compared to $3.85bn a year ago and $2.93bn a quarter ago, when it made a $97m loss.It plans to lower its staff count by about 2,400 jobs - about 7.5 per cent. The damage was done by a fall in NAND sales, to around $900m, with trade units down 10 per cent compared to the second quarter and average selling price down 6 per cent.Micron s gross margin of 17 per cent was 3 per cent lower than the second quarter primarily due to lower average selling prices partially offset by manufacturing cost reductions. To address the current market environment and strengthen our competitive position, we are implementing a number of initiatives to reduce costs, drive greater efficiencies, and increase focus on our strategic priorities."
There s a huge fascination behind how things are made – simple toys like a kaleidoscope, for example, are more complicated than you think.A new video from Super Deluxe that gives us the behind the scene look at how sex dolls are made, however, is even creepier than the concept of sex dolls itself. The obviously NSFW video details how a manufacturer mixes the dyes to match human skin tones, fill the silicone into lady-shaped molds, and even give the dolls a manicure for realism s sake. But the scenes where the bodies are just hanging up to dry look straight out of a horror flick when you realize the murderer has butchering experience.Even the way they store and ship the dolls is creepy. Also this screenshot in general.
Seems like the new addition to the UMI Super family is now fully confimed, the new model is going to really carry the Edge name amd it s clear it s going to be a device with minimal to no bezels and curved display edges.According to UMI the new Super Edge will be equipped with more powerful processor than the current Super, which is certainly good news, because the Helio P10 is hardly a high-end piece of hardware. And the UMI Super Edge will surely aspire to be one of the high-end cream of the crop.Expected release date is set somwhere in Q3 2016 and unofficial rumors are pointing out at a possibility of sub-$250 price. But of course if you don t want to wait you can still get the normal UMI Super here or check out the new UMI London here.
Emergency Response Procedures, Emergency Drills and Incident ManagementEnergy management firm Schneider Electric has mapped out emergency response considerations for data centres. The firm warns that data centres must be prepared for exceptional events or emergencies and have plans in place to maintain continuous operation. For example it says that despite best practices being observed during site selection, extreme weather events such as Hurricane Sandy have shown that facilities may at any time be exposed to risks above and beyond hazards those from which they are normally protected.Emergency Response Procedures include: operational measures to deploy in the event of a crisis that safely isolate faults and restore service; a crisis management plan CMP which is a detailed step-by-step procedure to follow when emergency strikes; and Escalation Procedures, which are documented, prioritised contact lists outlining internal contact requirements for specific situations related to data centre operations.Emergency Drills, which should be developed in advance and scheduled to occur regularly, guide operators through what should be done to counter the top 10 identifiable operational risks.
Principally, digital currencies have been perceived by the wider world as the domain of the technically minded; reserved only for those with an in depth understanding of ledgers, cryptography and with access to the vast amount of computer power supposedly needed for the mining process.Technical jargon aside, digital currency can actually offer something incredibly valuable to the masses and to the global economy. At LEOcoin we have always maintained that the real power of this monetary innovation lies in its ability to level the playing field and democratise finance. That is why we have taken the exciting step to change how everyone can mine LEOcoin, by shifting to a 100% Proof of Stake system. In essence you lend the processing power of your computer to the network to solve algorithms that generate digital currency. To date, this of course means that individuals have needed to have a certain level of technical know-how to be able to invest in digital currencies.
The Taiwanese navy somehow managed to accidentally fire a missile, with the supersonic anti-ship device blasting off from a docked craft, hitting a local fishing boat and killing the captain. The military patrol boat was undergoing an inspection when the Hsiung Feng III missile was fired. And as horrible as it sounds, it could've been worse. The boat's fury was fired in the direction of China, which doesn't exactly get along with Taiwan at the moment, so there was a small chance World War III could've kicked off while we were asleep again.Fortunately for the world but unfortunately for one fisherman sailing waters off the Taiwan-controlled islands of Penghu, the missile flew for 45 miles or so before crashing into the sea and destroying his boat.Navy vice-admiral Mei Chia-shu told reporters: "Our initial investigation found that the operation was not done in accordance with normal procedure," which is quite the understatement.
If you can t beat em, buy em.Apple is in discussions with Tidal about acquiring its music streaming app, which offers exclusives and early releases from big artists like Beyonce and Kanye West. The Wall Street Journal reports that the talks are still early and might not end in a deal, but Apple wants those exclusives to bolster its Apple Music streaming app that s currently in hard-fought competition with Spotify. But Tidal has been winning on that front.Rapper Jay Z bought Tidal for $56 million in March 2015, then revamped it with a set of landmark partnerships with some of the biggest names in music, including venture as co-owners: Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Arcade fire, Chris Martin from Coldplay, Beyonce, Daft Punk, Jack White, J. Cole, Jason Aldean, Kanye West, Deadmaus, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Usher. In a pompous declaration-signing ceremony, Tidal brought made these stars co-owners in exchange for them giving it first crack at releasing their music.

The onus is now on a national imperative to put in place a plan that allows the UK tech sector to continue to flourish.Access to the Single Market must be the primary objective of any UK negotiationAccess to the single market allows tech firms to compete for business on equal terms across Europe, generating jobs and growth and is a key factor in the UK's ability to attract foreign investment. If the UK can no longer benefit from free movement then a new 'smart immigration' policy needs to be put in place that prioritises the needs to the UK's fast growing and high value tech sector.Work should start now on securing international data flows and data protectionTech businesses are data driven and depend upon the ability to move data across national borders.
If you re the kind of person who takes lots of photos and videos at concerts, your days might be numbered. The patent, filed back in 2011, describes the iPhone s camera detecting an infrared signal in order to receive information. One of the most obvious possibilities for this type of data transfer would be to prohibit concert-goers from capturing bootleg footage at exclusive events.Apple even included illustrations in the patent filing to show how the technology would work. Here s how Apple describes that process in its patent filling:In some embodiments, a device may apply a watermark to detected images as an alternative to completely disabling a recording function. In such an example, the device may then apply the watermark to all detected images that are displayed or stored e.g., single pictures or frames of a video .
Comment Ever wondered what would happen if you gave that stoner dude with the far-out ideas millions of dollars? Not content with wasting money delivering food, cleaning laundry, walking dogs and whatever other nonsense the Valley has wasted millions on the past few years, Y Combinator is thinking big.Rent is, like, crazy high – let's find a way to build new houses that are really cheap but also super cool.Y Combinator thinks that you can decide what values you are able to embed into the culture of a city – and decide them ahead of time. And it goes on and on like this: affordable high-speed transit no doubt from being delayed on BART ; "should we have human-driven cars at all?"The brains behind the idea: Adora Cheung of YC ResearchWhy on earth is Y Combinator wasting its money on something like this?
For B2B demand marketers, media has until recently been synonymous with impressions, maybe clicks and hopefully, leads. The focus over the last several years, however, has shifted to: Impressions are a bonus; I expect leads. Now on top of the static lead/contact info itself, think of all the added insights aggregated through the analysis of this data:surging contextual content that illustrates interest in specific topics among individual leads e.g., the number of white paper downloads in a set period of time ;actions that signal info consumption preferences;industry trends e.g., sudden bump in, say, cloud computing interest among enterprise companies ; andchanges in account info e.g., human capital jumps between companies .The future of media is full-funnel data supportThe major takeaway here is that media companies are no longer chained to top-funnel activities. It ll certainly help you prioritize lead nurturing and sales follow-up.ABOUT THE AUTHORScott Vaughan is CMO of Integrate, a cloud-based, closed-loop marketing software provider, where he leads the company s go-to-market and marketing strategy focused on serving its growing customer base of marketers.
