Chinese tech investors are increasingly looking for a way to gain access to India’s untapped potential, and their approach has been to bet on local talent to best approach the market.“From 1990 to 2014, aggregate Chinese [foreign direct investment] in India was less than $2 billion. From 2012 to 2016 or 2017 that number was $6 billion to $7 billion,” mostly led by China’s tech giants like Alibaba and Tencent, said Dev Lewis, a researcher at Hong Kong-based think tank Digital Asia Hub during a TechNode Emerge panel at TechCrunch Shenzhen on Monday.Chinese investor interest in India is primarily centered around e-commerce and social media, said Richard Xu, who heads the US operations of Grand View Capital, a New York investment bank.Unlike US tech giants, Chinese companies often choose to invest in local startups rather than rolling out their products straight from the Chinese market, because of the differences between the two markets.“[Chinese investors are] not saying let’s be the Facebook of India.
Now that all the big 2019 phones have been released, it’s time to look forward to next year’s handsets, and if these early leaks are any indication, the Galaxy S11 could be in line for a huge upgrade in the battery department.According to noted Samsung leaker Ice Universe, Samsung’s next batch of flagship smartphones may get significantly larger batteries, with even the smallest of the bunch – the Galaxy S11e – featuring up to a 4,000mAh power pack.Compared to the 3,100 mAh battery used in the current Galaxy S10e, that would be an improvement of nearly 30 per cent in overall battery capacity. As for bigger versions of the Galaxy S11, Ice Universe says the S11+’s battery could be as large as 5,000 mAh, which would also be a pretty big jump up from the 4,100 mAh battery in the S10+.But what’s more important than the increased size of the S11's batteries, is what Samsung could do with all the extra juice. While other phones like the OnePlus 7 Pro, Pixel 4, and others upgraded to 90Hz displays in 2019, none of Samsung’s phones this year had displays with high refresh rates, despite Samsung being the manufacturer responsible for making the panels featured in many of its competitors.
Ferrari plans to capitalize on its name, its logo, and its image to increase its profits during the 2020s.The storied Italian brand announced a series of ventures that will take it outside of the automotive industry, including a new restaurant. The yet-unnamed restaurant will open in Maranello, Italy, the firm’s home town. The 57-year old Bottura owns and runs a restaurant called Osteria Francescana that’s located a stone’s throw from Ferrari’s headquarters, and he earned a coveted three-star rating from Michelin, so he’s a good fit.It will hopefully be car-themed, with memorabilia-lined red walls, tables made using old V12 blocks, Recaro bucket seats, and motorsport-inspired dishes. We’re looking forward to waiting a year and a half for the opportunity to sit behind a plate of GTC4Lasagna.

Ecommerce platforms in Indonesia have worked on keeping their marketplaces honest as certain merchants gamed their systems.Recently, a GrabFood driver-partner in Jakarta, bought 660,000 rupiah (US$47) worth of food at Burger King, only to find that the order was a sham. The first is made up of garden-variety opportunists who commit fraud on an individual basis to gain certain advantages, such as getting bookings at a faster rate or bypassing account bans that were caused by violations. Some groups, particularly the more “premium” ones, are invite-only, and both free and paid versions of the tools, especially modified apps are available.According to the security experts, there are typically four kinds of tools:This app, which has features like speed settings and routes, allows fraudsters to fake ride-hailing trips without actually changing their location: i.e., they can be sitting at their desk.

Tropical Cyclone Maha continued to move north along the southwestern coast of India when NASA's Aqua satellite passed overhead and analyzed the cloud top temperatures.Satellite imagery showed the storms with the greatest rainfall potential were over the Lakshadweep islands. One of the ways NASA researches tropical cyclones is using infrared data that provides temperature information.Cloud top temperatures identify where the strongest storms are located. The stronger the storms, the higher they extend into the troposphere, and the colder the cloud temperatures.NASA then provides data to tropical cyclone meteorologists so they can incorporate it in their forecasts.

ITHACA, N.Y. - For grape growers, accurately predicting each season's yield is key to a successful harvest.Underpredict, and you won't have enough labor on hand or you'll run out of storage space; overpredict, and you could fall through on promises to your distributors. Two Cornell University researchers are tackling the age-old problem using 21st century tools: inexpensive, touch-sensitive soft robots that can help growers predict yield and detect fungal threats.Justine Vanden Heuvel, associate professor of horticulture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), researches strategies to help grape growers improve their environmental and economic sustainability.Kirstin Petersen, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, studies bio-inspired and soft robotics.Other researchers have used sophisticated and expensive cameras to predict grape yield late in the season, Petersen said.

Mac users have spent nine long years waiting for an iPad that could fully supplant a MacBook, and as of six months ago, even the latest and greatest iPad keyboard cases couldn’t bridge the gap.As of iOS 13, iPads now natively support external storage, including flash drives, card readers, and external hard drives, which can be accessed using the Files app. While iPads have been able to pull (some) photos and videos off of SD cards using accessories for years, Apple has opened the door to such a wide array of storage devices that you can now plug* a Mac-formatted hard disk or PC-ready flash drive into the iPad and move content back and forth. The Files app provides access to the full directory structure of an attached device, so you’re not limited to just grabbing photos from a DCIM folder as per Apple’s prior Photos app importing mechanism; you can dive into any folder or subfolder you want, and even access files in formats iPadOS can’t natively read. There’s still plenty of work to be done before Files is a viable macOS Finder alternative, but file system support goes a long way to freeing iPads from feeling like high-walled gardens.Apple deliberately buried — but did include — another potentially huge gap-bridging feature in iPadOS 13: preliminary support for mouse and trackpad accessories.
