They re cheap, they fit right into your pocket, and the storage capacity is usually 2GB or 4GB at least.Another option for lightweight tasks is a storage service like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. It must be said, but make sure whatever you re saving is your own work, and that it doesn t contain any confidential information that s valuable to your company.Record a new outgoing message saying you ve left the company, and tell callers who to bug instead. If you use a desktop email client and not one that runs in the browser , delete everything in all of your inboxes, then log out. Some jobs require communications to be saved for months or years, regardless of whether you re still there.

Popular online cosmetics site Strawberrynet has asked customers if a function that allows anyone to retrieve its customers names, billing addresses, and phone numbers with nothing more than an email address is a bug or a feature. The bug was first disclosed almost exactly a decade ago and resurfaced after security man Troy Hunt reported the flaw to the company last Thursday. The feature means customers are able to checkout quickly by just putting their email address into a text entry box.Doing so returns personal information in cleartext, if the email address entered is already in Strawberrynet's records.Hunt says the company responded to the disclosure, telling one unnamed researcher who privately reported the flaw that email addresses were sufficiently secure and that a password was not required. The mail explains the company's stance as follows:
First, the car will be a Volvo XC90—a luxury SUV a good deal fancier than the seemingly standard-issue Prius. The $300 million project, funded by the two companies, is the most aggressive implementation of autonomous driving ever even when you take into account the fact that a person will still be sitting in the driver s seat, ready to take over if the computer fails .You can already buy cars that handle highway driving for you from Tesla and Mercedes, with others soon to follow .The car doesn t encounter terrain it might have trouble with, and you can give it extremely detailed maps of its known world.Throw in things like school speed zones and right turn only lanes, so the car can focus its sensors and computing power on temporary obstacles like cars, pedestrians, and cyclists.Ride-sharing is the perfect application for cars that don t need drivers but are limited to a few square miles.
A security firm finds an unidentified smart socket vulnerable to hacksUsers should be aware of security risks relating to smart plugs.Security firm Bitdefender said that it could steal user email logins from the device, control it over the Internet, and potentially use the socket to launch other malware attacks. This is a serious vulnerability, we could see botnets made up of these power outlets, Alexandru Balan, chief security researcher at Bitdefender, said in a Thursday blog post. The device itself functions as a smart electrical switch that connects to the internet over Wi-Fi.A user can plug it into any wall socket, and remotely turn the device on and off through the mobile app.

They are no longer our go-to source of information like they were in the 90s and early 00s, but they still hold a special place in the hearts of those of us who prefer the physical print medium to the eye-straining digital format we ve grown accustomed to on our laptops, tablets, and smartphones.Your nifty, spiffy iPhone will do just fine.AirPrint-enabled apps let you create and print full-quality documents and graphics without the chore of installing drivers or configuring the printer queue. The requirements are rather minimal — you need any model iPad, an iPhone 3GS or later, or a third-generation iPod Touch — as well as the latest version of iOS and an AirPrint-compatible printer with the latest firmware.Feel free to check Apple s AirPrint basic support page for a comprehensive list of all compatible devices, including popular models from Canon, Epson, HP, Samsung, Brother, and a ton of other noteworthy manufacturers.Keep in mind there may be multiple networks available in an office setting and you might have to enable the AirPrint function depending on your printer.
It s unicorns and bubble gum at NASA as the space agency douses planes in a glowing pink paint. The aeronautical parts are being coated with a bright pink paint not for fun or even for a popular cause, but as part of a larger initiative to improve the aerodynamics of modern aircraft. The pink paint being used by the space agency is a pressure-sensitive material developed and used by NASA engineers for the past 25 years. The paint was formulated and refined by NASA in the late 1980s by former astronaut Janet Kavandi and a team of researchers from the University of Washington. The base material relies heavily on the work of German scientist Hans Kautsky, who in 1935 discovered that the brightness of luminescence was influenced by oxygen — he found that the greater the oxygen concentration, the lower the luminescence. The researchers at NASA in turn took their knowledge of how the air pressure in a wind tunnel changed oxygen levels and combined it with Kautsky s work on luminescence to create their signature pink glowing paint.

The chipmaker has started shipping silicon photonics modules, which use light and lasers to speed up data transfers between computers. The silicon photonics components will initially allow for optical communications between servers and data centers, stretching over long distances, said Diane Bryant, executive vice president and general manager of Intel s Data Center Group.Over time, Intel will put optical communications at the chip level, Bryant said during a keynote at Intel Developer Forum on Wednesday.PCs and servers today use older electrical wiring for data transfers. But the data transfer speeds via those cables had reached a brick wall, and fiber optics provide a way to shuffle data at faster speeds, Bryant said.In addition to an ability to stretch across kilometers, the fiber optic cables will take up less space than older cables, Jason Waxman, corporate vice president and general manager of Intel s Data Center Solutions Group, said in an interview.
Citrix has had a big win in the cloud: Microsoft has decided to discontinue its own application publishing service in favour of a forthcoming Citrix product called XenApp express.Microsoft's app publishing product is called Azure RemoteApp and is essentially a cloudified version of its RemoteApp code that exposes Windows apps so they can be consumed through remote desktop Services.Apps running in this mode look like they're running locally, but aren't!Redmond says customers still want this stuff running in Azure but that it's come to an un-explained decision that getting Citrix to do the job is The best way for us to deliver this .Citrix's product, Microsoft says, has all the security and other qualities anyone could ever want when delivering remoted apps.We have to take Microsoft's word for this because XenApp express is currently on the drawing board.
Will the remote control still exist in the future? If MIT and Microsoft have their way then the answer would most definitely be no.The two have partnered together to create DuoSkin, a unique temporary tattoo that when attached directly to the skin, allows the user to control a range of connected devices.DuoSkin is made using gold metal leaf, which means that it s cheap, skin-friendly and can support a range of different input options. The finished product can be styled in a number of ways so it doesn t scream that you re wearing an advanced piece of wireless technology , and the applications can range from a simple on/off switch to even increasing/lowering the volume on a device. If you re fed up of losing your Oyster, then DuoSkin could potentially help in the future too.
Just hours after Seagate showcased a 60TB SAS solid state drive at the Flash Memory Summit, Samsung announced a 32TB model, the PM1643, one which it claims is the world's largest to be based on 512-gigabit V-NAND chips. The difference is in the form factor 2.5-inch for Samsung and 3.5-inch for Seagate and the fact that it uses its own 512-gigabit chips, compared to 384-gigabit Micron-sourced chips for Seagate. So while Seagate has the highest capacity, Samsung has the bragging rights when it comes to data density which is ultimately what counts .The drive uses Samsung's new fourth-generation V-NAND stack which boosts the number of layers to 64 allowing the production of 512-gigabit chips.Samsung also confirmed that it is expects 100TB SSD to be available by 2020, although depending on market conditions, we could reach that capacity far faster especially if Samsung plans to produce a 3.5-inch version of the drive. The 32TB drive, which has yet to be named, will be shipped next year.

Quantum Break, Remedy s time-traveling action game and/or lengthy TV show, is coming to Steam. It s a pretty straightforward story, insofar as the facts are concerned. You ll be able to buy it there starting September 14, and unlike the Windows Store version, the Steam version will run on any PC with Windows 7 64 bit or higher—no restriction to Windows 10 or DirectX 12, in other words.Microsoft's bringing pretty much all of its Xbox exclusive games barring a future announcement about Halo to Windows 10 PCs at this point, under an initiative called Xbox Play Anywhere. And no doubt, these games will end up in the Windows Store. It allows them almost console-esque control over games that wind up on the PC.

Five years ago, riots broke out in cities across England; civilians looted shops, started fires and were involved in clashes with armed police, which resulted in hundreds of injuries, thousands of arrests and millions of pounds' worth of damage. At the time, the riots were dismissed by the then prime minister, David Cameron, as criminality, pure and simple .Some understood the riots as a frustrated response to society s consumerist values, where some used violence to go shopping for free .Other analyses suggested that social and economic inequalities had created a tinderbox where disadvantaged young people were ready to explode at the merest flashpoint .The shooting, and the police s failure to formally notify his family, sparked a peaceful protest that developed into riots, which spread across London and then to other parts of England.David Lammy, MP for Tottenham, echoed these thoughts, and concerns about a second spate of violence have appeared in The Times.
Nintendo will re-release many popular Wii U and 3DS games as part of its budget-priced Nintendo Selects catalog in August, including such titles as Lego City Undercover, Luigi s Mansion: Dark Moon, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.The publisher also announced plans to reissue several of its Wii U games at retail with bundled amiibo figurines, giving players a second chance to pick up platform standouts like Yoshi s Woolly World and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.Starting August 26, Wii U owners can pick up reprints of the sandbox-style action game Lego City Undercover, former console pack-in title Nintendo Land, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for just $20 apiece. The upcoming wave of discounts is noteworthy for Wii U fans who have been attempting to track down a copy of Lego City Undercover in the years after its launch. The game was never reprinted following its initial shipment, and aftermarket prices surged when collector circles began snatching up new and used copies as word of its rarity spread.Nintendo 3DS owners, meanwhile, will be able to add Tomodachi Life, Lego City Undercover, Nintendogs Cats, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Luigi s Mansion: Dark Moon to their libraries at $20 a pop when the next round of Nintendo Selects launches late this month.
