Like an exasperated parent muttering something about horses and water, Google has decided to take Android Wear by the scruff of the neck and create a Nexus-branded line of smartwatches. That s according to an extremely confident report from Android Police anyway.Apparently concerned about the recent dearth of new Android Wear-compatible hardware -- not to mention that the existing stuff is all painfully mediocre too -- the company s said to be working on a pair of round-faced smartwatches unofficially codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish.Angelfish is rumoured to be the larger of the two devices, with a 14mm-thick body and 43.5mm diameter, three buttons and a subdued but sporty look .It will also feature GPS, LTE and a heart-rate monitor, and arrive in a matte grey finish that may or may not be called Titanium , which admittedly does sound a bit more appealing than matte grey.Swordfish, meanwhile, is expected to resemble the Pebble Time Round minus the massive bezel , with a 10.6mm-thick frame and a diameter of 42mm.

Digital Economy Bill Communications provider Ofcom has gained powers to fine mobile operators up to £2m if they fail to comply with coverage obligations under their spectrum licence. The new penalties will be introduced under the 150-page Digital Economy Bill, which significantly boost the regulator's powers. The Bill granted the regulator powers to fine operators up to 10 per cent of their "relevant amount of gross revenue", which it said should not exceed £20,000 per day.The measures will provide Ofcom with a tool to help secure compliance with licence conditions in cases where the alternative is to revoke their licence. For example, if a mobile operator failed to meet a coverage obligation in its licence, it might be a worse outcome for consumers to revoke the licence than to leave the licence in place.A spokesman from Ofcom said the bill includes a package of reforms that will give the operator more flexibility "to manage and ensure optimal use of spectrum – the vital but finite resource that underpins wireless communications services.
Snapchat may be known as the ephemeral social media network, however the company is now allowing users to look back in time, thanks to a new feature called Memories.Memories is basically a way to save and share old snaps inside a folder, which acts somewhat as a camera-roll replacement for the scores of people turning to Snapchat as their main camera app.Within the folder, you can organize, edit, and re-share photos after they ve been taken — a pretty significant shift for Snapchat.Memories can be accessed simply by swiping up from the main camera screen.Of course, it s important to note that in the past you have been also been able to save snaps to your camera roll, however the new feature saves those photos to the Snapchat servers, too. They can then be revisited from the Memories section.

LAS VEGAS -The term paid plus co-op sort of mentality could well describe a mountain commune, but it s an understated way of explaining the huge data nexus that Experian Marketing Services and Neustar hope to become under their new partnership.Among other things, advertisers will be able to pool their data for mutual benefit. In a nutshell, the partnership lets advertisers bring to the table any customer data they have and Experian and Neustar will help find those people online. We re taking onboarding to the next level, Brienna Pinnow, Experian s Director of Product Marketing, says in an interview with Beet.TV.This is the first time where two huge data leaders are actually coming together.A basic example is that of brands being able to target, say, their best customers or loyalty shoppers, to cross sell or up sell them across the digital space.

Cisco's embrace of open networking tools continues, with the company opening up code to connect its IOS-XR operating system to Puppet via Yang. The snappily-named Ciscoyang module bundles a Puppet type, provider, Beaker tests, and sample manifests for configuring and managing IOS-XR.IOS-XR is the service provider-scale version of Routerzilla's ubiquitous network operating system, so it's probably a hint that Puppet is starting to appear in the kinds of networks Cisco regards as a must-keep.The Ciscoyang modules need Puppet's open version 4.3.2 or higher, or Puppet Enterprise 2015.3.2 or higher. It's designed for IOS XR 9000 it's a new initiative: exactly which version of the operating system is yet to be determined , and Cisco's Network Convergence System 55xx.The Ciscoyang module gets installed on the Puppet Master server, and the environment includes agents for installation on individual networking devices.
Tesla announced today that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into a recent fatal crash of a Model S with the company s Autopilot feature activated. The carmaker has offered an account of the event in a blog post title A Tragic Loss that went up today, detailing the crash, an extremely rare circumstance, which occurred on a divided highway.Neither Autopilot nor the driver noticed the white side of the tractor trailer against a brightly lit sky, so the brake was not applied. The high ride height of the trailer combined with its positioning across the road and the extremely rare circumstances of the impact caused the Model S to pass under the trailer, with the bottom of the trailer impacting the windshield of the Model S.According to the carmaker, the vehicle s crash safety system would have been activated had the Model S collided with the front or rear of the trailer, rather than the side.It also took great pains to reiterate the safety procedures it has set out for the Autopilot feature, which is still in the public beta phase.

When you go to the trouble of installing a security camera in some hard-to-reach place, you want to know for certain it will survive with little need for maintenance. That s what Panasonic is promising with this remote camera that keeps on recording even when the wind is blowing at preposterous speeds up to 134 MPH.Thanks to a streamlined housing that makes it look like a swollen aeroplane wing, Panasonic s Aero PTZ Camera WV-SUD638 can actually survive winds upwards of 180 MPH, but don t plan on recording in those absurd conditions.Even at 134 MPH the camera s going to be jostled around by those intense winds, so to reduce vibrations and shaking in the video it records, Panasonic has also integrated two separate motors to compensate for horizontal and vertical motions, in addition to electronic image stabilisation. The Aero PTZ Camera can also shrug off nasty weather, and whatever happens to get picked up and thrown around by strong winds. Its fibreglass housing prevents corrosive salt water from slowly degrading the hardware, and a tiny wiper blade on the front clears off rain and dirt.
So we all knew the Vivo X7 would launch with a front 16 mega-pixel camera, but now TENAA has revealed that the rear will be 13 mega-pixels!!The Vivo X7 is the next mid-range phone from Vivo to launch this year, and with it it brings a new bias towards selfies and a slightly altered design.Vivo have now moved the fingerprint scanner from the rear of the device as it is on previous Vivo phones and on to the chin in a home button just like the one found on the Oppo R9 and OnePlus 3.The whole design can be seen in these new TENAA leaks, but most interestingly TENAA also confirms that the camera specs are stacked in favour of the front camera. While the rear is listed as a 13 mega-pixel shooter the front is a 16 mega-pixel sensor with dedicated front facing flash. This seems like an odd move and we wonder if someone made a mistake with the specs over at the government ran authority.TENAA goes on to confirm a 1.8Ghz Snapdragon 652 chipset will be used, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory.Dimensions are also revealed 147.3 x 71.85 x 7.24mm as is the screen size 5.2-inch and resolution 1080 x 1920 OLED .Vivo will be officially announcing the X7 next month where it s price is expected to be just under 3000 Yuan.
Last week, Tesla announced that it was pursuing an acquisition of SolarCity, the troubled solar-panel leasing company that's run by Tesla CEO Elon Musk's cousin, Lyndon Rive. And on Monday, SolarCity said that it formed a committee of independent directors to evaluate the deal. That's because Musk is the largest single shareholder of both companies, and is the Chairman of SolarCity.Holy conflict of interest!Actually, Musk and Rive have said that they will recuse themselves from voting on the deal.Anyway, SolarCity is a $3-billion bite for Tesla, in an all-stock transaction that would add — brace yourself — over $3 billion in debt to Tesla's balance sheet. If this looks like a SolarCity bailout — the solar-panel leasing company has seen its market cap, now $2.25 billion, sawed in half since last year — that's because it is.The deal might looks outwardly vexing, and the post-announcement analysis has suggested that Tesla is doing something wrong here.Tesla stock dived when the news broke.Because with this bid "Tesla" is trying to become what Musk probably wanted it be all along: an integrated holding company providing global-warming solutions. If the SolarCity deal goes through, Tesla will be: a carmaker; a battery maker, thanks to the Gigafactory being built in Nevada; an energy storage company, thanks to Tesla Energy, unveiled last year and selling residential battery packs; and a solar finance firm. And SolarCity is incinerating cash.So that debt load that Tesla would be taking onisn't going anywhere.Shareholders could rightly accuse Musk of hanging a $3-billion anchor around Tesla's neck .Of course, shareholders could also vote against the deal, or if they don't think loading Tesla up with another company's debt is a good idea, they can sell their shares.Because if Tesla can really save the world, from Musk's perspective, taking on all that debt has been worth it.NOW WATCH: Here s Tesla s massive plan to meet the demand for 375,000 Model 3 preordersLoading video...
