Answering a robocaller may only take up a few moments of your day — but in large numbers those calls can really add up, and it’s become a real problem for U.S. hospitals.According to a report from the Washington Post, a rising tide of spam robocalls are taking up valuable hospital time and reducing the abilities of facilities to react to real emergencies. While robocalls are just annoying for your average user, the sheer number of calls bombarding facilities like the Boston-based Tufts Medical Center can be crippling.According to Taylor Lehmann, chief information security officer of Tufts, his facility received more than 4,500 robocalls in just two hours on April 30, 2018.Spam calls across the world rose in 2018, with some countries seeing a 100% increase in time-wasting calls.Lehmann worries that the rising trend of such calls could eventually reach the point where a health facility’s systems are no longer able to cope — increasing the chances of a potential health crisis, and reducing the ability of hospitals to function properly.

Microsoft’s current developer strategy is perhaps best described as pragmatic: Meet developers where they are, not where Microsoft thinks they should be.Redmond has put aside old rivalries, open sourced its own tools and languages, shipped its own Linux kernels, and made Java a first-class citizen on Azure. If you remember Microsoft’s acrimonious and litigious history in the late 1990s with Sun Microsystems over Java, support for Java on Azure might be surprising. But we’re living in different times, when the big public clouds aim to be home for all your code. With Amazon Web Services a clear market leader and strong competition from Google Cloud Platform, and with both treating Java as a primary development language, Azure had to give developers the same level of Java support.[ 15 Java frameworks that give developers a boost.

But implementing machine learning models is far less daunting and difficult than it used to be, thanks to machine learning frameworks—such as Google’s TensorFlow—that ease the process of acquiring data, training models, serving predictions, and refining future results.Created by the Google Brain team, TensorFlow is an open source library for numerical computation and large-scale machine learning.TensorFlow bundles together a slew of machine learning and deep learning (aka neural networking) models and algorithms and makes them useful by way of a common metaphor. It uses Python to provide a convenient front-end API for building applications with the framework, while executing those applications in high-performance C++.TensorFlow can train and run deep neural networks for handwritten digit classification, image recognition, word embeddings, recurrent neural networks, sequence-to-sequence models for machine translation, natural language processing, and PDE (partial differential equation) based simulations.TensorFlow allows developers to create dataflow graphs—structures that describe how data moves through a graph, or a series of processing nodes.

And what are people pilfering their 401Ks for?The classic NSX’s values have doubled over the last 6 years, and images of the cars are currently adorning countless walls, garages, and phone screens everywhere. They (and “they” here means the automotive press at large) say the new one, while great to drive, is too convoluted. For every positive you hear about the original NSX, there is an equal and opposite reaction for the new model. The similarities between the cars go far beyond the badge, and I believe this new model is a future classic.Once again, while very fun to drive, the car had a “mere 270 hp.” And it made “only 210 pound-feet of torque at 5300 rpm.” These are “Respectable numbers, but not extraordinary.” It was “Fast, but not a record setter.” The bodywork was “not truly distinctive.” Finally, “who wants to have to explain to the Ferrari-owning cardiologist at the country club why you bought a $70,000 Honda?”

After a number of videos showing car fires involving electric cars have gone viral online in China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is urging electric vehicle (EV) makers to launch immediate investigations into the fires, and conduct follow-up checks using “all possible means.”The ministry is requiring EV companies in a file released Monday to start investigations and report results “in a timely and faithful manner.” Authorities will require recalls if investigations confirm any quality issues, and punishment will be doled out for hiding any problems, the ministry said.Authorities also urged EV makers to conduct a “complete” safety check on cars including those already sold, including testing key components such as batteries and charging devices and submitting a report by the end of October.Companies will also need to establish 24-hour crisis hotlines to address incidents, notify affected customers, and report to the government when necessary. The requirements follow shortly after a Nio ES8 caught fire in a parking space on the street in the central Chinese city of Wuhan on Friday. The incident was the third incident involving one of its vehicles combusting in the past two months, the company confirmed.

Ren Zhengfei, founder and CEO of Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei, said on Monday he expected the US trade blacklist will reduce production output by $30 billion over the next two years.“But we don’t think the efforts will thwart our progress.”The panel discussion, dubbed “A Coffee with Ren,” featured the Huawei CEO speaking about topics including network security, the US-China relationship, and global technology trends. The discussion was jointly held by American economist George Gilder and Nicholas Negroponte, the co-founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab.Ren said in the discussion that there are still many universities working with Huawei, even in the US.If they find out that we are being innovative, they may think we can be good friends, and we can be trusted.”

The game is currently on the verge of disappearing, at least from digital storefronts, but it’s reappeared on the Xbox 360’s digital storefron, and at an insanely high markup? But according to the Minecraft: Story Mode Facebook page, taking it off the Xbox 360 store resulted in the users who already owned the game being unable to download any episodes they had not previously.Since that defeats the purpose of a grace period before server shutdown, the game was relisted, but with a twist.According to the Facebook announcement:The price shown is a real list price, please do not buy the content, if you do, you will be charged the amount shown. This is simply the only mechanism available to facilitate players being able to download their remaining episodes prior to servers shutting down.

Google is taking a break Tuesday from its recent Women's World Cup soccer Doodles to honor another ball many get a kick out of.The animated Doodle serves up the tasty deep-fried balls that, as Google puts it, are "the best thing that ever happened to chickpeas."It's been enjoyed for several centuries and by many cultures around the world, although its origin is a bit hazy and controversial. It's widely thought to have been invented about 1,000 years ago by Egyptians, who use ground fava beans for what they call "ta'amiya."As the dish spread north to the Levant section of the Eastern Mediterranean, fava beans were replaced by chickpeas as the main ingredient, and it acquired the Levantine Arabic name falafel.Still other theories hold that it was invented by the Arabs or Turks.

When Amazon first launched in 1995 as a website that only sold books, founder Jeff Bezos had a vision for the company's explosive growth and e-commerce domination. He finally chose "Amazon" because he liked that the company would be named after the largest river in the world, hence the company's original logo.In the first month of its launch, Amazon had already sold books to people in all 50 states and in 45 different countries. An obscure book about lichens saved Amazon from going bankrupt. One early employee worked so tirelessly over 8 months — biking back and forth from work in the very early morning and very late night — that he completely forgot about the blue station wagon that he'd parked near his apartment.Every employee had to take a graveyard shift in the fulfillment centers to meet orders.

Whenever we review products here at Android Authority, we always ask ourselves a simple question: Would we buy this with our own money? The answer, of course, depends on the product and the person reviewing that product, but we all have a few things we look out for when making purchasing decisions. For me, price is probably the main decider in whether or not I buy a phone.I won’t even consider a phone if it’s in the ~$900 range.Following that, I find the phone’s software (UI and frequency of updates) is the second most important aspect when I buy a phone. Most people probably consider a combination of things.

Spam complaints affect your email marketing performance.Abuse emails: Whether you've gotten one or 200, they're bound to be lurking in your subscribers list.In email marketing, they're known as “complainers.” According to a study by MailChimp, which analyzed hundreds of millions of email campaigns, companies that have between 26 and 50 employees have the lowest abuse rates: 0.007 percent. When you consider this statistic, it’s no surprise we’ve become so sensitive about and protective of our space and time. The “Unsubscribe” button allows us to fire an annoying sender for good.As Stephanie Colleton of Return Path explains, human behavior is often hard to predict, so you’re still exposed to risk.

Nissan’s next performance flagship could run on electricity rather than horsepower, according to one of the brand’s top executives. The Japanese firm is experimenting with ways to reliably extract jaw-dropping power figures from its battery-electric components, and we could see the result in showrooms — as well as on the race track — during the 2020s.The original Leaf hatchback released in 2010 stood out as the first modern, mass-market electric car.Nissan focused on affordability, range, and practicality at the expense of performance when it designed the second-generation model, but a team within its go-fast Nismo division is trying to unlock its potential. The company is testing the Leaf-derived RC 02 on a makeshift race track in Japan to explore which components should remain at the prototype stage, and which ones are eligible to make the transition to production. On paper, the RC 02 (pictured) has already planted its flag in supercar territory.

My eyes follow a little cartoon cow from the top left to the bottom right of a Microsoft Surface screen. Both of my pupils are dilated by the act, but in less than five seconds they will be paired with a new virtual remote control system, the Comcast Xfinity X1 eye control. After this calibration ends, I can now access the virtual keyboard on the Microsoft Surface.Comcast, the nation's largest cable provider, on Monday released this new virtual keyboard, compatible with laptops and computers, to help you navigate your TV screen with the power of your gaze. For instance, at its Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month, Apple announced Voice Control, an accessibility feature that allows users with motor limitations to browse their iOS devices by simply speaking directions.Comcast's customizable virtual keyboard is accessed by a simple website URL, xfin.tv/access, and will be available to those users with both the existing Comcast Xfinity platform and third-party assistive eye-tracking technology from companies such as Tobi.

The next entry into Huawei’s Mate series is most likely going to be called the Mate 30, and include a Mate 30 Pro model, with previous experience telling us it will be revealed during the second half of 2019.Huawei is in the midst of battling a ban by the U.S. government; but this has not stopped rumors and leaks giving us an idea about the Mate 30.A series of renders of the possible design shows the phone with an evolution of the Mate 20’s square camera lens setup, which continues the 2019 trend of alternatively designed camera lens arrays. The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro were among the first phones with a square camera lens array, mounted top-center on the back, but for the Mate 30 Pro this may morph into an oblong array and contain four camera lenses. It’s certainly easier on the eye than if it was set in one of the rear corners of the phone.Around the front, the Mate 30 Pro may share some similarities with the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.
