The $699 iPhone 11 has dual-rear cameras, Night Mode and Deep Fusion. My tests revolved around three lighting scenarios: good, medium and low light.A second rear camera with an ultrawide-angle lens, Night Mode, Deep Fusion produce overall sharper photos and videos that make this phone worth every penny of its $699 price tag.The iPhone 11 has a new sensor with 100% focus point coverage to help focus faster and more accurately. In terms of sharpness and dynamic range, the main camera is definitely superior to the ultrawide.Skin tones are decent and the cutout effect looks real.
An Australian government department has shown interest in forcing pornography sites to verify a user's age, and it's willing to offer its facial recognition services to get it done. It's suggested its facial recognition service, which is yet to pass in parliament and was initially proposed for national security and fraud detection purposes, could help to make this a reality.Australian Home Affairs has been developing its facial recognition service (named 'The Capability'), which it's hoping to legalise if the Identity-matching Services (IMS) Bill 2019 and the Australian Passports Amendment (Identity-matching Services) Bill 2019 are ever passed through parliament.Just last week the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) tabled the bills, expressing that the committee believed protections for individual's rights should be more explicitly incorporated. The bill propose two services — a Face Identification Service (FIS) and Face Verification Service (FVS).The first matches unknown faces against a database filled with identified facial data collected from passports, drivers' licences and other forms of photo ID.
The US Interior Department said on Wednesday that it is grounding all drones made in China or containing China-made parts on fears of espionage and cyberattacks, Bloomberg reported, a move which effectively pulls from the field its entire fleet pending an agency review. Why it matters: The grounding is the latest in a flurry of US decisions to shun industry-leading Chinese tech companies citing national security concerns.Details: The government agency responsible for managing all federal land, the Interior Department is concerned that the drones could be used to send classified information, mainly videos and photos, of sensitive US infrastructure that could later be attacked, according to the Wall Street Journal. The department manages 810 drones, 15% of which were made by Chinese drone giant DJI.The rest are made in China either entirely or in part, Bloomberg quoted a department spokeswoman saying. While the agency conducts the security review, non-essential drones will be grounded except those used for emergencies, such as fighting wildfires and search and rescue efforts.
Epic recently added the Storm King to Fortnite, a beast that will be available for battle royale players to fight over the next few days. The company kicked off its “Fortnitemares” yesterday, a Halloween-themed event that comes with challenges alongside a new Limited Time Mode called ‘The Storm King.’ Complaints from players have prompted Epic to nerf the boss. The Storm King LTM is a temporary game mode in which a large group of players must work together to defeat the Storm King and his minions.Victory rewards players with a special new umbrella featuring purple and crackling electricity…but that’s only if you manage to win. It’s clear that Epic intended Storm King to be difficult to beat — it previously teased the boss as the hardest opponent battle royale players will have ever faced. Some players say the company took it too far, though, making the mode more frustrating than fun.
Samsung’s lineup of Galaxy S and Note smartphones remains as the flagship series to beat in the Android world. If you want to enjoy a stellar Samsung Galaxy smartphone experience without breaking the bank, your best bet would be to go for the Galaxy A series. It’s actually the first smartphone to have four cameras on the back, a desirable feature that you won’t find on the flagship S devices.Putting a quad-lens camera to a midrange smartphone is already a daring move for Samsung, but the Korea-based company did not stop at that.At the core of the A9 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor backed by 6GB of RAM.It’s not as powerful as the latest S10 series, but it’s snappy enough in opening tasks, switching between apps, and multitasking.
As Jack Dorsey announced his company Twitter would drop all political ads, Facebook CEO Zuckerberg doubled-down on his policy of refusing to fact-check politicians’ ads.We will be best served over the long term by resisting this urge and defending free expression.”Still, Zuckerberg failed to delineate between freedom of expression and freedom of paid amplification of that expression — which inherently favors the rich.During today’s Q3 2019 earnings call where Facebook beat expectations and grew monthly users 2% to 2.45 billion, Zuckerberg spent his time defending the social network’s lenient political ad policy. One clear objective was to dispel the idea that Facebook was motivated by greed to keep these ads.We just shared our community update and quarterly results.
Design in the early- to mid-20th century was full of optimism.Art deco and the "rocket age" look became staples.Hyundai revealed the Hyundai HDC-6 Neptune on Monday, a hydrogen fuel cell-powered semi truck that looks like something from a cross between Tron and I, Robot. Its striking looks graced the North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta, and the we received a few more details about the unique semi concept. The automaker also mentioned it's learned a lot from its fuel cell passenger-vehicle program, most recently with the Nexo crossover, and it sounds like those lessons helped shape the HDC-6 Neptune. With a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain, the company said designers looked at the semi with a clean-sheet reinterpretation.
Analysis A key internet infrastructure organization is undercutting efforts to make the internet more secure by insisting ISPs accept a legal agreement before using a security framework, critics charge. The org in question – US-based regional internet registry ARIN – argues that under American law, it has to have people consciously accept its terms and conditions for them to be legally binding. At the heart of the issue is a relatively new system, known as Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI), which was developed by the global regional internet registries (RIRs) that are responsible for overseeing and allocating IP addresses. If there is a conflict – in that, an unexpected and non-validated route for internet traffic opens up – then either someone has misconfigured their network, or they are purposefully misrepresenting themselves online, possibly to intercept or block packets. But if misconfigured, and an ISP's connectivity relies upon the RPKI system, the broadband provider risks cutting off its users entirely if the service breaks: something that is almost certain to happen at some point. As such, ARIN is insisting on a legal agreement that effectively shifts liability for misconfiguration onto ISPs.
OK, so you need a phone contract and you've been thinking about getting a new Nintendo Switch Lite. You may have noticed that buying bothcan end up costing you a pretty large chunk of cash. However, with a recent offer from Mobiles.co.uk you can combine both of these purchases and pay as little as £23 a month. But despite the low prices, these phones offer many of the premium features we've come to expect from smartphones in 2019.Battery sizes going up to 3400mAh (over a day of power), infinity displays, dual camera set-ups and even some pretty powerful processors. These are specs we expect from higher price tags and especially wouldn't normally expect a free games console thrown in!
How do you make the McLaren P1 go faster?Certainly not with stripes, but with 3D-printed titanium wheels which are super-light, and therefore help that 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged 903hp engine get up to speed just that little bit quicker. This just shows the many diverse applications that 3D printing can have, with the technology potentially giving more pedestrian (so to speak) sports cars a boost in the future. In this case, as spotted by Motor1.com, the McLaren P1’s 3D-printed wheels (see the video below) were fashioned from titanium and made by California-based HRE, which has long been working on fancy wheels.HRE is, in fact, on its second-generation concept 3D-printed wheels, the HRE3D+ titanium wheel, produced in conjunction with GE Additive. The wheels feature a carbon fiber barrel with 3D-printed titanium spokes, and on the P1, weigh only a touch over 9kg each.
Plus, Kaspersky opens doors on its intelligence portalFBI refreshes voting security pushLast year, the FBI kicked off Protected Voices, a campaign to improve voting security at the state and local level. The effort was just expanded for the coming year with new resources and materials, including tutorials for securing polling places."It is not the general practice of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division to go to the public with information," said Nikki Floris, deputy assistant director."But this is a threat that not only concerns every American, it involves every American.
Rumors have been circulating for months that Apple is readying a new, 16-inch MacBook Pro model — some reports claiming as early as this year — and we might have just gotten a first look at it, thanks to a new image hidden in the latest macOS Catalina 10.15.1 beta that was uncovered by MacGeneration. The file apparently refers to a new MacBook Pro model designated “MacBookPro16,1” (which in and of itself just indicates that it’s a new model — the 16 here is likely just a coincidence based on how Apple does its model numbering), and features a thumbnail image for what definitely looks like a larger MacBook Pro with thinner bezels than the current 15-inch model’s icon.MacRumors has confirmed that the files — which depict the new model in both silver and space gray colors — are present in the current beta, which means that if the image is accurate to the finished design (and not just a placeholder), than we could be getting our first good look at the newest MacBook Pro.While the image is definitely of a larger MacBook with thinner bezels, there’s no way to tell from here whether the most requested change — a new scissor-switch keyboard that’s rumored to be debuting on the 16-inch model to replace Apple’s heavily maligned butterfly switches — is present as well.It wouldn’t be the first time Apple’s accidentally leaked a new product design with accidental beta icons, either: the company confirmed the iPhone X’s redesign with an beta icon, as well as the iPhone XS Max and iPad Pro redesigns last year. Most recently, Apple’s rumored noise-cancelling AirPod Pros might have made an appearance in the iOS 13.2 beta.

Nintendo today released sales figures for the Switch, and it should really not come as a huge surprise to know that it’s surpassed 15 million units sold in North America alone. That means Nintendo’s hybrid console is dominating its two main competitors, the PS4 and the Xbox One.According to the NPD Group, a market research company, the Switch has been the top-selling video game console in U.S. for 10 months now.The sales figures are probably bolstered by the release of the Switch Lite, a handheld-only version of the game released earlier this year.Mat Piscatella, games industry analyst for NPD Group, said on Twitter “Nintendo Switch is the only platform with sales gains both in September as well as year-to-date.”The fact that the Switch has eclipsed its fellow consoles might say as much, if not more, about its unique place in the console generation as it does about the Switch itself.
Some homeowners with Tesla solar panels said they had been left frustrated as they wait for the company to fixed damaged panels on their roof, Business Insider's Linette Lopez reported. On August 1, the roof of Briana Greer's home in Colorado caught fire as she waited for Tesla to send a crew to look at her panels. The company has yet to investigate the situation, she said.Greer said that Tesla didn't properly maintain the panels.Homeowners in states from Maryland to Arizona with Tesla solar panels have also found dealing with Tesla to be frustrating, and they've been forced to pay regular fees as their systems have been shut off.Current and former Tesla employees said that this is all related to "Project Titan," a secret program Tesla launched in the summer of 2018 to quietly change out faulty wiring on solar roofs across the country.

By rigorously testing different fabric materials in the laboratory and using them to shield structures that were exposed to fires of increasing magnitude, this research, published in Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering, confirms that existing blanket technology can protect structures from a short wildfire attack."The whole-house fire blanket is a viable method of protection against fires at the wildland-urban interface," says lead study author Fumiaki Takahashi, a Professor at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, who teamed up with the NASA Glenn Research Center, U.S. Forest Service, New Jersey Forest Fire Service, and Cuyahoga Community College for this study.Wildfires in urban and suburban settings can have a devastating effect on communities and pose one of the greatest fire challenges of our time.People living and working in fire-risk areas contacted Professor Takahashi to find out if commercial products are available to help reduce the likelihood of structure ignition, which would reduce fire damage and improve public and firefighter safety. These pleas motivated the research and an initial investigation revealed that the concept of whole-structure fire blankets has been around for quite some time."I thought about a means to reduce wildland fire damage and found a U.S. patent 'conflagration-retardative curtain' i.e., a fire blanket, issued during World War Two.

KLM might be the “world’s oldest airline,” but judging from its digital presence, you wouldn’t know that. Two years ago, it proclaimed to be the “first airline” with a verified WhatsApp business account, and it has its own artificial intelligence bot (Blue-Bot) that helps customers through Facebook Messenger. The carrier is also taking a more forward-thinking approach to sustainability as climate change becomes more of a hot-button issue.Pieter Groeneveld, svp of digital at the airline’s parent company, Air France-KLM, is in charge of spearheading these efforts.“I have a bit of tech FOMO,” he said, explaining that the brand tries to be in the “front row” when it comes to experimenting with new technologies. At 100 years old, KLM is far from a digitally native brand.
