Photograph: Sipa Press/Rex FeaturesFour years ago, I wrote a book about Apple and the power of simplicity.Or is it simply maturing as one should expect from a global company? He had the credibility of the founder, extraordinary instinct, vision and energy, and he could make things happen by sheer force of will. And there is ample precedent for Apple expanding existing product lines. Not that it excuses Apple, but many forget that such lapses also happened on Steve s watch. There were no middlemen, no multiple levels of approvals, and no focus group research.

Gameloft chief executive Michel Guillemot is expected to resign in the wake of Vivendi s successful hostile takeover of the French mobile game publisher, according to a Bloomberg report.Bloomberg said that Vivendi has gained control of more than 56 percent of Gameloft s stock in a months-long attempt to gain control of the mobile gaming pioneer, which has had a hard time in the past year.Gameloft lost money and cut more than 500 jobs in 2015, partly because the competition in mobile gaming has become so intense.GamesBeat has asked Paris-based Gameloft for comment. If the report is correct, Vivendi would have control of Gameloft s board at the annual shareholder meeting on June 29.Vivendi issued a letter to the mobile game company s employees, saying that it has hopes to leverage its impressive holdings in music, cinema, television and online and its expertise in supporting talent. In a rapidly evolving market, your company, which needs industrial and financial backing to develop, will be able to count on our full support and commitment.Vivendi is also attempting take control of Ubisoft, which is run by Yves Guillemot, Michel s brother.Vivendi owns about 18 percent of Ubisoft, a maker of blockbuster games such as Tom Clancy s The Division.Yves Guillemot also prefers that Ubisoft remain independent.Earlier, the Gameloft board advised shareholders not to sell out to Vivendi, but it offered a hefty €8 $8.92 a share.

Microsoft has been accused of spamming Android users with advertisements trying to get them to use Office.A user who has Office installed on his Nexus 6P including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint says that he doesn't use the apps but a few times per week.Another head scratcher is why would Microsoft be sending advertisements to users to try apps that they already have installed and are using?Adding to the confusion is that this particular user has an Office 365 subscription, meaning the ads that Microsoft is sending for apps that are already installed, the guy is also already paying for.Microsoft won't make users happy with ads in the notifications tray to harass us, and when you already pay for and use the apps being advertised in this shady method the insult is all the more stark.Google also has some onus here; it needs to enforce the rules already in place considering these ads shouldn t have been run for anyone.

During a lengthy chat with The Verge's Walt Mossberg at the annual Code Conference on Tuesday night, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos explained that in addition to the bookstore they opened in Seattle, Washington, last year and the one they have announced for San Diego, the company "will probably open some more."The irony of this decision is not lost on Bezos, who joked that some had suggested they call the shops "Amazon Irony Books."Bezos said Amazon is still learning and is constantly experimenting so they can figure out what an Amazon Bookstore should actually do — besides sell books, of course.Currently, Amazon is trying to assess the right format, store size, retail approach and even how such a shop would interact with an existing Prime Membership. In general, Bezos said of Amazon interests in non-endemic markets and businesses, "We never think of ourselves as tied to any particular technology or skill set."The potential creation of more physical Amazon stores, though, is one of the more interesting turn of events in the 21-year history of the online mega-retailer, especially considering most people credit or blame Amazon for the decline of the local bookshop.

The bacteria, discovered last month in a 49-year-old Pennsylvania woman with a urinary tract infection, contains a gene known as mcr-1, making it resistant even to colistin, a decades-old antibiotic that has increasingly been used as a treatment of last resort against dangerous superbugs. The fear is that this could spread to other bacteria and create the bacterium that would be resistant to everything, Dr. Beth Bell, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, told ABC News. The more we look at drug resistance, the more concerned we are, Dr. Tom Frieden, CDC director, said Thursday. This particular colistin-resistant strain, for instance, was first discovered in people and livestock in China in November 2015.The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Thursday it had detected the bacteria in a single sample of a domestic pig s intestine. When it comes to spreading resistant bacteria, food-producing animals are of particular concern, the CDC says.

It s not often that Comcast makes headlines for changes to its services that might actually benefit consumers, but that currently appears to be the case. The much-maligned service provider confirmed Wednesday that any customers who are subject to data caps won t be able to rack up overage charges of more than $200 per month after June 1.These charges will still be in effect after June 1, but at least there s now a limit to the overall amount that can be accrued. An additional $50 a month on top of a standard rate will snag unlimited data, which is definitely a better proposition than paying the overage charges for anyone who regularly streams audio and video content on their phone.Their rates are set to remain unchanged until the end of the year, but at that point the service will be treated as a $50 add-on, just as it is for everyone else. There will be some customers that benefit from these changes, but in truth the amount of people who save money will be minimal at best.

The plan lets customers with an existing AT unlimited data plan for their smartphones tack on unlimited data for their cars for $40 per vehicle.Of course, not all of those cars' owners have activated the connected features in the vehicles and signed up for the data plans. The company has partnerships with 19 different auto manufacturers such as Tesla, Ford, GM, and Volkswagen to install connectivity in their vehicles.AT can monetize these connections by offering pools of anonymous data to car manufacturers and dealerships.Over the past year, there has been a significant uptick in the number of connected cars on the road. And as internet integration becomes more commonplace, the automobile as we know it will transform.Over the next five to 10 years, this internet integration is expected to change the car ownership model, create a new platform for consumers to access content, lead to fully autonomous vehicles, and revolutionize the auto industry. The market position of the car today is similar to where the smartphone was in 2010 — it's just taken off and is ready to explode.John Greenough, senior research analyst for BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service, has compiled a detailed report on the transformation of the automobile that examines the transformation of the automobile. It also analyzes all areas of the changing automotive market, including the market size for connected cars, automakers benefits and connection strategies, market leaders, consumer demand, and more. Here are some of the key takeaways from the report:Over 380 million connected cars will be on the road by 2021.The market has seen a significant increase in automakers plans to connect the majority of the vehicles they sell and as a result, we've increased our 2015 forecast.Automakers are connecting the vehicles they sell because the connection offers clear business opportunities.Consumers are adopting the connected car faster than expected.

Interestingly, this coincides with the years of Corydoras' patents.Having a front-facing camera that actually captures your images is also newer but has become a profitable market of its own, which probably explains Corydoras' sudden interest. It is, at least, somewhat consistent as it also sued Samsung last March for the very same reasons. The case is almost laughable if it didn't bring to mind the also somewhat laughable state of the patent system in the US.Companies sue each other left and right over patents, and some companies like Corydoras sue larger companies for some easy cash.VIA: Patently Apple
