VoIP: An Upgrade in Communication

Every few years technology comes along and hopes to improve our lives and the way in which we communicate with each other. Once upon a time Alexander Graham Bell dreamed of talking to a person who was not only not in the same room, but across the country. As time marched on another dreamed of being able to talk to a person without being tied down to the traditional home telephone. However, as our ability to communicate improves we realize that the next big thing has actually been around for quite a while.

What is VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP first emerged in 1973 from an experiment for ARPANET's Network Voice Protocol. While ARPANET first established the technology, it was Vocaltec who was able to bring Internet Phone Software to the public in 1995. By compressing the voice signal and then translating it into digital packets it enabled them to distribute this signal over the internet. Consequently, allowing Vocaltec to receive credit for delivering the first VoIP software and establish the groundwork for what would become a major industry.

What Does it Mean for Your Business

This technology has proved to be substantial cost savings to many companies who have multiple offices across the country or even all over the world. By integrating the software throughout the company employees increase productivity by being able to participate in conferences while waiting in the airport for their flight. Not only can they join in office activities when not present, but they also have the ability to use other applications such as email and e-faxing all while participating in the conference. Thus eliminating the need to have that bulky fax machine on every floor in the office.

Imagine your company not only reducing the cost of traditional communication methods but also increasing safety around the office. How often have you visited a business that is desperately trying to wrangle the wires running around employees desks with intricate power saving cords, wires taped to the underside of desks or worse stapled under the carpet? Not only is this unsightly to visitors it is a hazard to the employees. Integrating this software will significantly reduce not only the amount of wires employees and staff stumbles over but also decrease cost by reducing the amount of equipment needed in the office as well as the systems needed to perform basic communication.

Communication Really is Key

In the telecommunications industry it is not just about providing service, but going above and beyond to meet the consumer expectations when an issue does arise. The fact that Nextiva reviews its operations and product development exemplifies how they manage to lead the industry year after year. The use of VoIP has allowed to Nextiva create services that improve the functionality of every business that uses it, including eliminating the need to have a separate fax line.

It is well established that communication is really only as good as the company that provides it. When they built a brand that focused on the needs of its customers, Nextiva allowed their customers to focus on building their business and improving the quality of communication both internally and externally. After all, providing a quality experience is what every business is about.
