ITIL or Information Technology Infrastructure is the standard set of practices that are followed in IT service delivery. These standards are incorporated throughout an IT service lifecycle, from its inception to its delivery. It describes the tasks, procedures and checklists that an organization has to use to ensure minimum competency. An ITIL training certification can help IT professionals establish and grow effectively in their careers.

ITIL’s importance in IT services

ITIL standards are the most widely adopted standards in the world for IT Service Management. The goal of ITIL is providing a structure or framework to organizations on which they can base their IT strategies, mission statements and objective. It can be applied to any type of industry, regardless of the size of the organization.

ITIL certification levels

There are four levels of ITIL qualification:       

  1. Foundation:

An ITIL Foundation qualification certifies you to have gained an understanding of the terminology and basic concepts of ITIL. With the certification, you will likely understand the ITIL structure as well as the core principles that surround the service management practices. Upon completion of the foundation training and examination, you will be more knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • ITIL service lifecycle
  • Main principles and models
  • General definitions and concepts
  • Selected roles
  • Selected functions
  • Selected processes
  • Training and competence
  • Architecture and technology

The foundation certification is meant for:

  • Individuals who need to understand the basics of ITIL framework.
  • Professionals who need to know how IT service management can be improved with the help of ITIL.
  • Professionals from organizations that have accommodated the ITIL framework. These professionals should be informed enough for contributing to the present service program of their organization.
  1. Intermediate

This level of ITIL training certification follows a modular approach. Every module has a specific but different focus. It enables professionals to specialize in different areas, such as Service Desk, Release Management, Problem Management and Change Management. Any number of such qualifications can be taken according to individual needs. With more details of the foundation level, a better understanding of specific fields is required.

  1. Expert

For getting certified as an ITIL expert, one has to complete the following successfully:

  • The Foundation certification
  • Specific number of intermediate specializations
  • MALC or Managing Across the Lifecycle Certification

In particular, the MALC provides an improved knowledge of why service management requires a lifecycle approach.

  1. Master

With this ITIL certification, you will be assessed based on your ability to analyse ITIL concepts and applying them in different areas. The criteria for this qualification include:

  • ITIL expert qualification
  • Experience of working in IT service management for a minimum of 5 years in senior management advisory, managerial or leadership roles.

ITI Master qualification requires extensive practical experience for demonstrating active involvement. So, get the required training in ITIL and embark on a prosperous career.
