Discovering rats in your home or workplace can be very troublesome. Rats can squeeze through narrow spaces and enter your home in search for shelter and food. Not only confined to residential properties, the problem can affect commercial spaces as well. Their infestation not only damages property but also bring along a lot of potential health threats and infections. Rats can find their way almost anywhere they want to, no matter what preventive measures for rodent control in Singapore you may take. There are commonly four types of rats found in Singapore:

  1. Black Rat (Rattus Rattus) also known as the roof rat have a tail that is longer than the body and head. They have a pointed nose, thin body, and big ears, and they are commonly found in coastal areas as well as in urban cities.
  2. Brown Rat (Rattus norvegicus) has a tail shorter than the body and head. It has small ears, a blunt nose, and a thick body as compared to the black rat. They are usually found burrowing in or on the ground but occasionally, they can be known to climb buildings, pipes and wires as well.
  3. House Mouse (Mus musculus) have a tail of an equivalent length to their body. They have the ability to survive in almost any environment, as they are smaller in size. In addition, they need very little space to hide themselves and less food to survive.
  4. Polynesian Rat (Rattus Exulans) has a thick tail slightly longer than the body. It is commonly found in surroundings of farms.

Luckily, there are ways you can obstruct the entry of rats and avoid an infestation. Proofing your house and blocking access to any sort of access to food and water really makes a difference.
