HOG technology saves 83% fuel cost in 11 trains of Southern Central Railway

November 13, 2019: Head On Generation (HOG), a new technology that doesn’t require any diesel consumption, recently introduced by the Railways and installed in 11 trains of Southern Central Railway (SCR) has reduced the fuel cost by 83 percent.

The energy consumption cost of 11 trains now comes to Rs5.7 crore of electricity per annum compared to Rs35 crore of diesel previously and saves Rs29.3 crore every year.

The state-of-the-art technology applied in trains which earlier had an annual diesel consumption of around 49.7 lakh litres also reduces both air and noise pollution with the shift to electric power.

“Plans are o¬n hand to introduce similar system in some more trains shortly to reduce the diesel consumption and also towards environment conservation.

Accordingly, modification of electric locomotives and LHB coaches (to comply with HOG technology) and other steps are in fast progress,” said Gajanan Mallya, general manager, SCR.
