UK: Bank of England will Withdraw old £20 Notes as New Notes Arrive

Bank of England is withdrawing the old £20 notes from circulation and are bringing new £20 polymer note for the circulation. The bank announced that it is going to provide a six months’ notice before it withdraws the notes.

It further said that there will be many banks which are going to accept deposits in withdrawn notes and the Post Office may also just accept the notes even after the deadline passes. The old notes can always be exchanged with the Bank of England.

The £20 new notes are showcasing the face of artist JMW Turner. These notes in the market now and are already in circulation. Winston Churchill and Jane Austin are also featured on the new £5 and £10 notes, respectively. They are also made of a polymer which is tough to counterfeit according to Bank of England.

In 2021, Alan Turning featured £50 notes will be added to the circulation and the old notes will be withdrawn smoothly and gradually.

“The new £20 is an important part of our commitment to providing banknotes that people can use with confidence. Our polymer notes are much harder to counterfeit and, with the £20 being our most common note, this marks a big step forward in our fight against counterfeiting,” said the Bank’s chief cashier, Sarah John.

The new notes are getting the attention of people as the earliest notes have codes like AA01 and 00000001 as their serial number. It is not going to make you a millionaire as the AA01 £10 note is priced £22.25 on eBay. It is a fair deal though.
