Things That Completes a Mezuzah | Stone Mezuzah

A mezuzah is a combination of mezuzah scroll and mezuzah case. There is a wide range of things considered when it comes to fulfilling the commandment of the Torah. A mezuzah placement is also incomplete with a mezuzah prayer.

Mezuzah scrolls

The kosher mezuzah scrolls are made from handmade parchment from a kosher animal, handwritten by a competent scribe. It is inscribed in black ink with a special quill pen and is written with the right hand. The sofer or scribe concentrated intensely and wrote with special Hebrew characters in a beautiful calligraphic hand.

A mezuzah has 713 letters. Every letter has numerous laws about its form. It must meet thousands of requirements to be written following all of the laws.

If one of the 713 letters of the mezuzah is missing, or it is shaped incorrectly, the mezuzah is rendered invalid, and the commandment is unfulfilled.

The mezuzah Case

The mezuzah scrolls are kept inside a protective case known as the mezuzah case. This is done to protect mezuzah scrolls from external weather conditions and other elements. The scroll should be rolled from left to right so that the word “Sha-dai” faces the front.

Mezuzah Prayer

Mezuzah prayer is said before hanging the mezuzah to the doorposts. If you are hanging multiple mezuzahs at one time, recite the prayer only once. Keep the mezuzah in one hand and recite the prayer; hang it immediately after completing the prayer. Recite it by yourself or call a sofer to do so.

Always buy a mezuzah from a reliable store so you can be sure they have been written properly.
