Qatar World Cup 2022- The 4 players Spurs signed alongside Son Heung-min and how they fared

The South Korean international was bought by Bayer Leverkusen for £22 million in 2015. Since then, he has scored 107 goals for the club and is an integral part of the sensational squad under Mauricio Pochettino. But he wasn't the only player to arrive at White Hart Lane in the summer. We've taken a look at the four other players who moved to Spurs in the same period as Son and how they fared.

Kevin Wimmer

Wimmer struggled to establish himself in the first team, with Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld having a monopoly on the center-back position when he arrived. However, an injury to Vertonghen midway through the 2015/16 season gave the Austrian international a chance to establish himself permanently in the first team. Wimmer was impressed as Spurs began their title challenge, but when Vertonghen returned to fitness in April, he lost his place.

The next game was even worse. With Alderweireld out and Eric Dier taking over at center back, Wimmer scored an own goal against hated local rivals Arsenal. Despite this, Spurs were able to convince Stoke City to pay £18 million for Wimmer in 2017 and all parties agreed to stop talking about Wimmer's time in North London.

Kieran Trippier

The decision to sell Trippier to Atletico Madrid in 2019 seems to be getting worse by the month. There were signs that the England defender needed to go - after 2018 Football World Cup glory, Trippier's form slumped the following season and Tottenham needed to find money in the transfer market.

But apparently, Spurs didn't know what they were getting until it was gone. Trippier was the epitome of the modern full-back at Spurs, providing danger on the offensive end while also doing solid defensive work. Since leaving Spain, his play has improved and the club he left has slipped out of the Champions League. For more details about Football World Tickets.

Toby Alderweireld

Alderweireld caused quite a stir when he moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015. Southampton argued that they had the right of first refusal for the player after his loan ended in the 2014/15 season. However, parent Atletico Madrid withdrew that option and accepted a higher offer from Spurs.

It is fair to say that Alderweireld has repaid the faith placed in him with 236 appearances for Spurs and has played a big part in their progress over the last half-decade. According to reports from his native Belgium, the center-back could move to Qatar's Al Duhail this summer, ending Alderweireld's six-year spell at Spurs. He's past his prime, but fans will miss him if he leaves.

Clinton N'Jie

It's fair to say that N'Jie was never successful at Spurs. The Cameroon international was bought to give the team a new offensive impetus, but tore his medial ligament in the Europa League in December 2015 and didn't return to action until May the following year.

After only coming on as a substitute in the Premier League Football, N'Jie moved to Marseille on loan before the start of the 2016/17 season. He was relatively successful in France and Marseille opted to make a permanent move for N'Djai the following summer. Whether Spurs lost any of the £8.3 million they spent on his signing was never disclosed.
