Safety tips for operating elevated work platforms on construction sites

When using vertical man lifts for sale, it is important to prioritize the safety and productiveness of the employees. Once the equipment is on the site, operators should follow the best operating practices in the assessment manual. They should ensure a safe and productive environment. The best way you can prevent accidents from happening whilst operating elevated work platforms on a job site is to follow the following safety tips.

Follow the worksite regulations and safety rules

It is important to read, understand and obey the worksite regulations and employer safety rules. You also need to read, understand and obey applicable governmental, provincial and local regulations that apply before you operate the machine.

 Do a pre-operation inspection

It is essential to do pre-operation function tests and inspections on your equipment before every shift. If you are using the machine for the first time, this should be done before delivery. If the equipment fails any of the necessary tests, it is important to ensure it is tagged and removed from the service unit immediately. It can be repaired by a qualified specialist and if it is impossible to repair then it should be discarded.

Do a workplace risk assessment before moving a machine

Before you move any machine around on the job site, it is important to do a workplace risk assessment. You should look for holes, drop-offs, unstable surfaces, slippery surfaces, power lines, overhead obstacles and other hazards that may exist and come up with a plan to avoid those hazards when operating your vertical man lifts.

 Wear proper fall protection

You will need to wear two harnesses with boom lifts to reduce the potential for the employee being catapulted from the platform. The slightest jar at the base of the machine can cause a powerful and sudden whiplash at the platform. Wearing the proper fall protection gear will reduce the chances of injury or death if this happens.

Do not climb, sit or stand on the guardrails of the platform

It is important to maintain a stable footing on the platform every time.

Don’t exit an elevated scissor or boom lift platform unless you are properly trained

Only those people who are properly trained to exit an elevated scissor or boom lift platform should do so. If you are not appropriately trained then you should avoid doing so all the time.

Don’t climb down from a raised platform

Whenever possible, you need to keep a cell phone or a radio while on the platform. You should have a rescue plan in place in case the aerial machine is not well-equipped with an auxiliary lowering system.

 Clear the platform from debris

Buckets, scrap materials, large toolboxes, and other things can cause a tripping hazard. It is therefore important to remove any item from the platform that isn’t necessary to do the work.

 Receive proper training

Before using vertical man lifts for sale, it is important to get the necessary training. This includes reading the operator’s manual and all the safety signs on the machine. You should also understand the location and function of all safety devices before you begin the operation.
