Here’s Why Drones Are Displaying a Wide Spectrum of Application

Drones are Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) that do not require a human pilot for operation. These are controlled either by a human pilot or an autonomous system integrated into the drone itself. Here, the system communicating between the drone & the controller from the ground control station is known as the Unmanned Aircraft System. As per a recent research study, the Middle East & Africa drone Market is expecting to grow at around 35.12% CAGR during 2021-26, owing to the surging demand for drones in different applications like 3D modeling & mapping, site surveillance, land surveying, etc. Nevertheless, let’s have a look at the different types of drones based on their sizes:

Types of Drones: Based on Size

·        Micro Drones

Micro Drones are ultra-small & compact and can take up much more than their size. Being a handy companion, they can be used right from flood zone surveys to military activities, among different activities. Due to their compact size, they have a single rotor with a flying capacity of around 10 minutes.

·        Small Drones

These drones are also compact but manufactured using two fixed rotors. They can carry small & light-weighted cameras and are used mostly by general consumers.

·        Medium Drones

Medium-sized drones are used in different applications, from logistics to filming videos and many more. They can also be used for military applications since they are heavy, powerful, & can have around 6 rotors. These drones also have a flying capacity of nearly 6 hours on a full charge with a control range from 50 to 150 kilometers.

·        Large Drones

These drones have some serious applications and are for official purposes like military operations for carrying out unmanned tasks. Large-sized drones are either remotely operated or pre-programmed for a particular application.

Types of Drones: Based on Application

·        Logistic Drones are used primarily for transporting goods & cargo from one location to another. Prominent companies like Amazon & Dominos are actively utilizing these services to deliver packages & pizzas. Drones make shipping cargo to ship a lot easier, especially when there is congestion on streets or when the route is challenging.

·        Civil Drones are for several general applications like monitoring agriculture fields, and aerial photography, among various others.

·        Combat Drones are battleground drones ideal for critical missions with high risks. These drones are also known as Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) and can carry missiles. Combat drones are very much similar to planes when it comes to looks.

·        Observation Drones are mission-control drones that are pre-programmed to perform a specific task. These drones are capable of returning to their base automatically, using the collected data from the battlefield. In fact, these drones are compact & easy to hide, which makes them a perfect choice for critical missions.

·        Target & Decoy Drones have similar applications as combat drones, except that the former provides real-time ground & aerial gunnery with a target, which simulates the missile or enemy aircraft. However, combat drones have capabilities to sustain & attack in high-risk missions.

Final Words

Drones are gaining increasing traction worldwide, mainly due to rapid innovations in them and their extensive applications across different sectors that range from general consumer use to high-risk battleground applications. Besides, the capabilities of doing operations that humans cannot perform increases their spectrum of applications across various industries.

Purposes like surveillance & monitoring, logistics & transportations, photography, traffic control, & recreations, among many others, are a few common uses of drones nowadays. Needless to say, with constant technological advancements, drones are likely to expand their scalability extensively in the coming years.
