Plan Your Next Season of Visit to Sydney

Every country and city have their peak season, shoulder season and off seasons. For a city like Sydney where tourists are in abundance throughout the year it is ideal to organise your time of visit beforehand to ensure a comfortable and crowd-free experience. Early October, November, late February and March are some of the best months to visit Sydney as they generally offer pleasant sunny weather without the mid-summer heat and the holiday crowd of schools.

December-February is considered as peak season in Sydney, though the iconic sights of the city can be enjoyed year-around. Sydney is lively throughout the year, especially during the Christmas and New Year period. Sydney Harbour will be one of the locations buzzing with entertainment and you will notice that most of the major tourist attractions are busy with families. A lunch cruise in Sydney is also a popular attraction among the locals and tourists as it offers a chill yet relaxing environment to enjoy sumptuous food with immaculate harbour views. As December is a high season for holiday makers, cruising on the top vessels such as the premium glass boat, the Australian-built catamaran or the authentic paddlewheeler is the easiest way to witness the landmark attractions of the harbour away from the busy crowds. With climate controlled and fully-air conditioned interiors, a harbour cruise lunch, with views of the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, is also a great way to escape the summer heat of December.

March-June and September-November marks the best time to visit if you're looking to attend a cultural festival or for outdoor adventures. These are also considered to be the shoulder season of Sydney which attracts numerous interstate and international visitors to the many major festivals that come to surface. These months also pack a cooler temperature but not so much as to bring along winter hoodies. The most anticipated event during this period is undoubtedly the annual Vivid Sydney festival which will see the city transform into a kaleidoscope of light, music and art. March also welcomes Sydney’s much-adored Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras which will paint the town in rainbows. September denotes the beginning of the season of sports in Sydney with the Sydney Running Festival and the National Rugby League Grand Final. You can also witness Bondi Beach transform into a giant outdoor sculpture garden as the Sculpture by the Sea festival unfolds.

You will have Sydney slightly to yourself during the months of spring as they come right before the peak season. But to get the maximum out of Sydney as a tourist destination, the summer months are the ideal choice.
