Six Nations 2022: Alun Wyn Jones backs to Wales camp for restoration

Injured padlock Alun Wyn Jones has combined Wales' Six Nations side to continue his restoration from a shoulder operation, but not as part of the team. Flanker Ellis Jenkins and Cardiff centre Willis Halaholo are amongst the six players unrestricted by Wales for the weekend's United Rugby Championship game. Aaron Wainwright is in the back for Dragons and scrum-half Gareth Davies for Scarlets. No. 8 Jamie Ratti and Prop Rhys Carre will also be back in Cardiff.

World record match holder Jones, 36, was injured in Wales' loss to New Zealand in October and was firstly predictable omission the whole Six Nations.

But Ospreys owner Toby Booth has since said that Jones may pass by the end of the game.

Rejuvenated Wales’s winger Alex Cuthbert welcomed Jones to training camp and told the Scrum V Podcast:

“He's fine. He's like a sniff of fresh air, he's like a kid running around, and so he's energetic about it, truly.

"It's nice to meet him, it's just another… We have some experience to bring back in a big match like this, so yeah, it's nice to have him nearby.

"He's hurrying all over the place; he's like a jerk, isn't he? He just bounds nearby – he's incredible. He's a machine and I give him that."

Another veteran, semi-half Rhys Priestland, also give back to Cardiff to further retrieval from a calf issue.


In addition, English clubs this weekend for the first time called Welsh expatriates to the top flight, including Dan Biggar from Northampton, Callum Sheedy from Bristol, Taulupe Faletau from Bath and Louis Rees-Zammit from Gloucester.

After Wales receive France on Friday, March 11, Italy will face Cardiff in the final round on Saturday, March 19.

Cardiff travels with Scarlets to Ulster on Friday 4 March, with Glasgow and Dragons in Munster the next day. The Ospreys received Zebre on Sunday and none of their Welsh depending has been released before the French Six visit Cardiff five days later.

Halaholo's expectations to make his mark on this year's tournament, but came up short with constrain and eye injuries.

He would also face Zebre in Cardiff on Friday, January 18, but that match had to be postponed due to the stormy weather. Davies and Wainwright were left out of Wales' squad for Saturday's beat to England at Twickenham.
