Context Overview

As the summer session begins, it gets more important than ever to make sure that you are protecting and taking care of the eyes. As people prefer to spend more time outside, especially in the sun, the summer season brings a variation of the eye problems along with it; It is important to keep your eyes healthy as you make the most of the season.

Contact lenses are worn safely throughout all months of the year;  however, every season brings various environmental conditions and uninvited happenings to consider the eye stress.

Air conditioning & the bright sunlight of long summer days might lead to scratchy dry eyes, making it hard to wear your contacts.

Additionally, you may wonder if it’s safe to keep the contact lenses in while diving into a chlorine-rich swimming pool or riding the ocean waves.

Caution | Precaution | Consideration

  • Only wear clean contacts: People need to keep contact lenses clean. Contacts should only be inserted or removed after washing the hands and drying them on a lint-free towel. Also, people must use the sterile solution the optometrist recommends. Keeping the contacts clean will make it easier to see and reduce the risk of eye infections.
  • Keep the Contacts Away From Water: Water should not come into contact with contact lenses. The lenses should be removed before showering or swimming. Failure to keep water away from contacts can lead to an eye infection. It can also cause the contacts to swell and scratch the eyes.
  • Keep Contact Wearing Schedule on Top: Contact wearers must take the lenses out for a full day once a week. Many choose a day on the weekend when they are not out in public. Removing the contacts for a full day gives the eyes time to rest. It also allows extra oxygen to reach the eyes during those 24 hours.
  • Stay Away From The Sun When You’re Wearing Contacts: Too much sun exposure isn't just bad for your skin - UV rays can be really harmful to your eyes, too. Solar radiation (in the form of UVA and UVB rays) can make its way to your eyes even on a cloudy day, so it's important to keep your eyes protected as much as possible.

Summer usually means participating in a variety of outdoor activities. Whether it’s work or play, most people are spending more time outside. This includes mowing the lawn, relaxing on the beach, working with power tools, and many other outdoor activities. These activities place you at a higher risk of exposure to foreign or hazardous materials, so protective eyewear can be a crucial asset to protecting your eyes this summer.
