In AWS, "network error connection timed out" denotes a problem with the instance's connectivity.

As part of our Server Management Services for web hosts, AWS users, and online service providers, we at Skynats have encountered several such AWS-related errors.

Today, we'll examine this error's causes and possible solutions.

What results in the AWS "network error connection timed out" error

This error typically occurs when there is a connectivity issue with the instance. It implies that the request eventually times out because it was unable to contact the instance.

If SSH is not active or if a firewall is blocking access to the instance, this may occur.

Additionally, if any required ports are closed, this error will occur.

How to resolve the AWS error "network error connection timed out"?

Let's now examine the fix that our support engineers offer to our clients to fix this error.

1. An SSH rule for inbound connections has been added.

The steps to adding an SSH rule for inbound connections to EC2 are listed below.

  1. Access the EC2 console first.
  2. Select the instance by clicking on "Instances" in the left navigation pane.
  3. Locate Security Groups in the Description tab and select the appropriate group from the list.
  4. Select "Edit" from the menu on the Inbound tab.
  5. After that, select SSH as the rule type, Port Range 22, and Source Anywhere by clicking Add Rule.
  6. Connect with putty to complete.

2. Look for any firewall blockage.

Start a session after opening the AWS manager console.

To turn off the firewalls, restart the SSH service. Run the following commands to achieve this.

$ sudo iptables -F
$ sudo service sshd restart

Run the command listed below to confirm SSH is listening on port 22.

$ sudo netstat -tnlp | grep :22

After that, the session should be ended.

Finally, establish an SSH connection to the instance.
