There are many terms in network marketing among which upline and downline are important that describe the relationship between distributors in the network marketing business.


What is an upline?

Distributors can earn commissions by selling products and services of the network marketing business to customers and recruiting new members to their team. In network marketing, an upline is a distributor who recruits new members into the MLM business. They can also receive a certain percentage of commission from the sales of their recruited distributors, Upline act as a mentor to their recruits and provide appropriate guidance and support for achieving the goals of their recruits. Upline plays a crucial role in the growth of the network marketing business


What is a downline?

Downline is the newly recruited distributors of the network marketing business by the existing distributors called upline. The main role of the downline is to sell the products and services of the network marketing company directly to customers and recruit new members into the MLM system by leveraging their connections. 

In network marketing or MLM business, a genealogy tree is used to describe the relationship between distributors. It visualizes the hierarchical positions of various uplines and downlines in the network marketing business. The new downlines are placed just below their respective upline or sponsor. However, the genealogy tree may change according to the compensation plan adopted by the network marketing business.
