The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Challenges in the 21st-Century forum was organized by the American University of Ras AL Khaimah in association with the Arab German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) and the Arab Council for Training Students of Arab Universities (ACTSAU).

The forum for students inventions is a great opportunity for Arabic students to measure their skills against those of their peers from other universities, acquire valuable experience, compete for prizes, engage with researchers, socialize with other peers, and enhance their knowledge in the areas of their interest.

It aims also to identify bright Arabic minds that would excel in a variety of areas.

The workshop specifically focused on Energy and Environment, Information Systems and Programming, Social Media Effects on Individuals and Artistic Creation, and Artistic Creation.

Students and supervisors from twenty universities (American University of Ras Al Khaimah, German Jordanian University, Al Zaytoonah University of Jordan, Philadelphia University, University of Takreet, The University of Nizwa, Al-Quds Open University, Palestine Polytechnic University, Palestine Technical University, Al Istiqlal University, Arab American University, Menofia University, Benha University, Minia University, Fayoum University, Assiut University, Arab Academy for Science Technology, Tanta University, South Valley University, Hodeidah University) representing seven countries (United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Palestine, Oman, Egypt, Iraq, and Yemen) were selected to participate in the final competition at AURAK.

He was followed by Professor Ahmed Al-Qaisieh, Director of Arab Council for the Training of Arab University Students.

Grandweld Shipyards has secured a contract to design, Construct and deliver four crew boats and six pilot boats for Kuwait Oil Company.

The contract was signed in May 2017 by Mr. Ismail Abdulla, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Company, and Mr. Jamal Abki, General Manager of Grandweld Shipyards.

The 25-meter long Aluminum fast crew boats, with a deck area of 40 square meters will be propelled by 2 propellers driven by high-speed marine diesel engines to produce a speed of 25 Knots.

Each boat is with a capacity to seat 33 persons including passengers, pilots, and crew.

The 23-meter long steel Pilot boats will be powered by 2 high-speed marine diesel engines each driving fixed pitch propellers to reach a speed of 22 knots.

Each of the pilot boats will accommodate 15 passengers and 3 crews.

Business leaders from the UAE gathered together at an ACCA event in collaboration with Thomson Reuters to discuss the impending introduction of VAT (Value Added Tax) across the region and the importance of ensuring compliance pre-1 January 2018.

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has this week announced that its Bachelor of Science in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering has been granted accreditation by ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC).

The prestigious Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, or ABET, is the leading accrediting body for post-secondary academic programs in ‘applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology’, and this latest accreditation recognizes the quality of the AURAK program.

This welcome news follows from a site visit which took place in October 2016, in which a three-person team visited the university’s campus in Ras Al Khaimah, and now means that three programs within the School of Engineering are accredited by ABET: its Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering, and the Bachelor of Science in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering.

Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, the university’s president, whose focus over his six-year tenure has been accreditation and quality, stated, “This latest accreditation represents yet another positive step forward for this young university.

Our School of Engineering remains on course to have all nine of its programs accredited by 2020.”

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has achieved another world record by awarding the 700MW AED14.2 billion-fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

This is the largest single-site Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project in the world, based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model.

The contract is awarded to a consortium comprising Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and China’s Shanghai Electric.

The project will be commissioned in stages, starting from Q4 of 2020.
